Mini DVI to DVI Video Adapter for Apple Laptop Macbook work?

  • It's too complicated, I think I am gonna skip shitty product......

  • i have a converter box with red , yellow & white cables that i hook my PS3 up too i was wondering can i use that to hook up a apple tv 40gb. ?? somebody please answer need too know im buying one for 60 bucks this friday!!!! thanks!!!!

  • this is awesome this trick works with 3.0.2 on my apple tv 40gb thanks for the help nice job with your other videos you just have to be really quick and timing has to be right but I am getting a nice Vizio TV in a month so this will due till than thanks again for sharing

  • so this will work on a fat tv?

  • Can anyone tell me what that lil circular symbol next the pop out screen button and the resolution button does? when i press it it makes a creepy sound

  • Hi Jordan

I have an AppleTV with Boxee XBMC

Does the same trick work ?

    thanks for your answer

  • Thanks man!!!

  • Thanks man!!!!

  • I did this with a modified HDMI (male) to DVI-D (female) converter with outputs 14 and 16 on the DVI-D connected together with a paper clip. Worked really well and saved me money as I didn't have to buy the DVI-VGA converter! If you have software 3.0.1, leave the modified HDMI-DVI converter in for 1 second, and connect the RCA video cable very quickly.

    Works with 576i.

  • Yes! Thank you so much! I've been trying it the other way for almost an hour. (I have the new software)

  • OK. with 3.0.1 Update it does not work. I never get amber light after Pressing Play. It worked with the 3.0 Update but is does not with the 3.0.1 Update. I have tried almost 20 times.

  • Its all about the timing, All I can say is keep trying. The first time I did the trick on 3.0.1 i got no amber light. second try worked fine. Good luck

  • Yes i can confirm that it works with update 3.01, takes a couple of try's but when you switch the cables just count to 5 really fast.

    Thanks for the video

  • This trick does work under 3.0, I have done it on both of my apple tv's 2 times each. I have a video that details the trick. This will be up sometime this week.

  • i have to say that a simple HDMI-DVI adaptor is good enough. Moreover no need to use the remote at all, just wait 5-10 seconds and you get the same result.

V 3.0 has killed the hack i am affraid...

  • Why exactly do you need the DVI-VGA adapter on the end?

    Thanks for the vid

  • It makes the required connection for the trick to work

  • if you unplug your apple tv do the setting for the resolution save. or do i have to do the cable thing every time

  • I wish you had played a widescreen video at the end. Is the screen zoomed in on the 853x480 image? That would make a difference and not necessarily be ideal for watching widescreen content...?

  • It does not zoom in on wide screen content, you will get bars on the top and bottom of the image to preserve the aspect ratio.

  • Awesome! wow that was a fast reply. with the apple tv refurbished so inexpensive now i've been very curious about getting one for my SD tv...thx!

  • No problem, yeah the Apple tv is really a great box if you have h.264 videos. Its been about a month since I watched a 16x9 movie on my sd tv so when I get home I will double check before you buy one.

  • Hi again...have you tried the widescreen thing yet?

  • Yes sorry for the late reply, it works great.

  • Just a Simple question, after I get the hack done, and the apple tv is in color. what happens if i shut the apple tv off, then turn it back on, will I have to preform the hack again.

  • Yes if put into standby mode the hack will remain, however if you power down the apple tv it will revert back to black and white.

  • ok well thank you so much, this video was very informative, I think I may get an apple tv now that I see it works on older tv's

  • whats the hi def cord for if its not hooked into nething other that the apple tv?

  • The way the Apple TV sees the signal returned from the HDMI cable allows the color to remain on even when the cable is removed. You must use this cable for the hack to work.
