  • @kris 19511: The British also treated us like inferior slaves. Hopefully most Indians have more self-respect to want to subject themselves to slavery. Corruption is indeed awful, but the answer to that is controlling our population & continuing to educate our people--the answer is most definitely not to accept slavery.

  • what ever all may say the Britishers ruled the country well, and planning was long sighted. Can any one say that the present governments ( state and central ) did any flawless planning.

  • tram

  • Old is gold.

  • CHENNAI IS MY LOVE....

  • But traffic in Madras and Singapore was good back in 1942.

  • Great view of Great Madras!!

  • That was the time, madras was far advanced from other towns ( now city ) like singapore , kuala lumpur, jakrata. Education and medicine was the selling point then.

  • @sungdichippa Now u can see others have par above us , we still there where Britishers left us,,,

  • @sungdichippa and now Madras still does. Singapore is now on par with Madras.

  • @atheismius Nationalist feelings apart, Singapore is now a leading GLOBAL city. Where does my Chennai stand now? They are not even increasing the city limits beyond th current 200 Sq. Km due to political silly, selfish reasons.(it could well be 1250 Sq. Km). As a result, young cities like Bangalore(800 sq KM) has more revenues, grows faster and is wealthier than Chennai.

Loving Chennai, and being honest about the lack of zeal in trying to improve the city are two different things my friend.

  • @binoyrakesh In the old days we have British India, Malaya, Hong Kong, Japan, Shanghai. We are all Asian cities. It doesn't matter which cities are better my friend.

  • @angelicawong1971 Well it does matter when one city has grown distinctly slower than the others due to mismanagement and corruption. And Chennai no longer has the Medical and Tourism edge that it once had.

This comment is about how the cities grew from where they were decades earlier. Chennai surely has been mismanaged. As for the "comparison" here, it is sort of like the yardstick to see what good management and governance can do to similar cities, like KualaLumpur for example.

  • @angelicawong1971 it doesnt matter which cities are "better" in somebody's opinion, but if you read my post again,(read the comment below)

  • the Tram services existed then in Madras...

  • bravo Dinakar! very nice video of Old Madras...

  • Wow... Thank you so much for posting this video. It's wonderful to see my city. I love my Madras... Trams in Mount road, electric trains. .... 5 star... :)
