SON-OF-GUN; JUST MADE IT!!! In 1981 "I Made It Through The Rain" peaked at No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and it spent a total of 16 weeks in the Top 100...
I just forwarded this to a young, recently widowed friend of ours. Hoping is will help her get through the rain. It's gotten me through many, many rains over the years. Thanks Barry Manilow, for the song.
For everyone that's talking about being bullied: if it still happens to you, here is something I learned from someone that all but alleviated people calling me names and being disrespectful. (I have no idea how it works either!) It's changing your subconscious expectations. Just tell yourself "I believe that I am not different and like everyone else" and put that as a "tape" in the back of your mind until it's just something you know that you know. It works! Try it! :):)

These songs were made when I was in my early 20's. So very meaningful to me then and now. Even Now that I have come so far I hope I can make it through the rain of 2011.
@MiiSy1357246 We all think that when we're in it. I do psychic readings. U should hear the things my clients have bee thru, and they came out the other side. Time does heal. CHOOSE happiness. Decide that whatver anyone has done to u and whatever u have been thru that u deserve happiness NOW. TAKE it. CHOOSE it minute by minute. I have learned that it is a choice, but it takes discipline to change the habitual thought s that create those dark feelings. Worth the effort.
Just when I thought Barry couldn't possibly have any more hits...he comes out with this and followed up with more. I never wore out a tape of music but Barry's hits came the closest.
@kradejem You will. A king once asked his court jester "Tell me something that will make me happy and sad at the same time" The jester came back a few days later and said "Everything changes"
I totally agree with "THE VAMEDINA". BARRY MANILOW: GREAT SINGER! My Favorite! I posted a comment below that was meant to let us appreciate ourselves and realize that life throws us unexpected events!
Lovers turn out to be different than expected and we need to adjust or move on!
Children as they grow into adults can and in my case did develop a serious mental illness!
What "sees us through the rain" is our knowledge that we can successfully deal with these events, and still have joy in our lives!!!
BARRY MANILOW! Great Singer! My Favorite! But Dear Friends, please realize this: Life throws us unexpected curve balls, events/people/loved ones who turn out differently than the expectations we had for them! It is our strength, focus and devotion to ourselves and to those who we love that helps and shows us what defines us, in short who we really are! In my life how could I have ever imagined that my two adult children would have Schizophrenia! Yet it happened, and I am their Father/Caregive
This song is the national anthem of my life. I made it.I finally made it and now I know who "the other's who, got rained on too" are. It's me. And I'll bet it's you too. God bless you Barry, you gave me hope, when there was none. You taught me purpose, I have kept my point of view and I am finally living the parade I started so long ago. Keep your vision, hold on to your dreams and never stop running after them.I caught mine, you'll catch yours.
@OhJaniceWhyOhWhy Some of us "make it" & some of us "don't"! Marilyn Monroe finally ended up "committing suicide"; Britney Spears, "picked herself up" & she's "now bigger than ever"! Who can say who the "Survivors" will be- usually those who "Keep Their Point of View" & don't allow Other's or "Rainy Days & Mondays" 2 "Get them Down"! Some use food 4 "crutch"- other's "go on diet" (Karen Carpenter became Anorexic & ended up "starving herself 2 death due to depression"), Just sum "food 4 thought"!
BARRY MANILOW! America's Greatest Singer of past 70 Years!
I also love this song. It appeals to all of us, me included, who have gone through hard times. Let me say that as people we are all worthwhile indivuals. If other people, including wives/friends/all others cannot see our inner beauty it is THEIR PROBLEM. Our goal is to know and believe in our inner goodness and value as people.
So Barry's lyrics take on meaning. I myself "have made it through the rain," despite many hurdles.
@1234roadking1 Same here, why did we not see that sooner? I'll never make the same mistake. I want someone who's been rained on, admits it and then moves ahead with life. My ex called the police and CAS on me a few months back, the latest in a 5 year series of attacks against me to take our son (4 1/2) away from me. I just think of this song and it's like she's still being rained on and can't see that, one day, if you try hard enough, the rain can stop. I feel sorry for her. Thus, my name
Ya know, Paul Anka did a cover of Black Hole Sun and it's not bad at all. I'd love to hear Barry do a cover of Smiling Like a Killer by Motorhead. I'm serious.
we all have experienced the "rains" in our lives and this song relate to each and everyone who were able to make though it. but personally, i made it through because i believed that there is "Someone" who made it possible. not on my own strength, not on my own way. after the rain comes the sun shining to remind us that for every darkness in our lives, there will always be a light shining brighter!
8 people don't believe the weather forecast. I waited for the best part of 40 years to make it through the rain, now, at last, things are changing for the better.
I guess its only people who have "made it through the rain"could relate to this most beautiful song, wonderful to know there are other's out there, and keep believing we are not alone XXXX
As a teenager, I loved the sense of independance about this song. At 42, I realise it reminds me of my mum who left a violent marriage, with 3 kids and did amazingly well on her own - without a penny or support from the old man. Bravo for Mum's!!!!
BARRY MANILOW! Great Singer! "I Made It Through The Rain" is a beautiful song. Everyone can relate to this song, because everyone has had "difficult times." It is the human condition.
Barry's song therefore hits a real emotional note in all of us.
Lately, Mr. Manilow is looking a lot like Joan Rivers......Why can't people just accept their actual age? They're not fooling anyone......He was born in 1943, for Christ's sake.....which makes him 68 years old.....
@messyblondemid90s The song can refer to any experience that makes life seem unkind. Depression, drugs, alcohol, domestic violence, isolation, chronic illness, addiction, filthy rumours, bullying, unemployment, exam failure, bankruptcy, family troubles, bereavement... the list goes on and on. The important thing is not to let that experience grind you down, not to let it rob you of your dignity and true identity. If you don't let it beat you, others will respect you for it.
@osie01; I'm sorry you had to endure that , those sorts of things happen in school and kids will be kids.We all have to move on from those experiences.I have also experienced the same back in high school and attended several class reunions since then years later and everyone has moved on and matured, everything forgotten as if none of it ever happened. We all must make it through the rain.
@osie01: Hi Young Friend, In my message below I gave you some advice that I think may help you! I just wanted to add that Good Friends are often a really big help. So continue to know that the sadness and down feelings of Depression can and will get better especially with the help of therapy and some of today's medications! Trust me! I've seen my own son get better. See comment below!
aosie01: Dear Young Friend: I truly understand the struggles that Depression brings. You can feel sad and isolated!
Here is the good news: It doesn't last forever in terms of those feelings! It can and will get better, and you truly need to believe this! I happen to have a 28 year old son with Schizophrenia and Major Depression! He has gotten much better through therapy and the great psychiatric medications that are available today plus a good support system!
I have been through nine months of depression. I am starting to come through... Thanks to the help of two people. I love them both, and am glad they were/are there for me. I met them about three months ago and when I was really upset and going through some of the most trying parts of my life. But they were there for me even though I was miserable and I wasn't the best person to talk to or be around. But I am so glad they were there for me. They changed my life.
Boy, do I remember when I first heard this song. The worst years of my life were in high school. I was dead poor, friendless, and I was picked on and bullied for four years. During lunch, I was so scared to go into the cafeteria that I took my own food and ate by the basketball courts. One time in my creative writing class I wrote a poem entitled Rainy Days, which described how sad I was. A day after I graduated I first heard this song in my room and broke down in tears.
In my many years, I've seen concerts from Black Sabbath to The Monkees; but Barry Manilow was one of the best concerts I ever saw. He is such a showman and really plays to and includes the audience. Fanilow for life!
@karmanichippie That is great that you came out with your life. Hope you find someone that appreciates you and loves you unconditionallly. Every woman deserves that!
Barry Manilow un vero romantico!! Un cantante incredibile!! La sua sensibilità è meravigliosa!! Le sue canzoni mi hanno fatto innamorare!! Mi fanno ricordare la mia adolescenza. Bravo Barry!! Continua così!!!
Barry its been a long a great journey for you and with your songs I think, I too have made it through the rain. As I play your songs again, it brought me to a even higher level as your voice pound into my sub conscience mind.
I confess...I am an absolute Fanalow! My first dance with a boy was to "Mandy" and I was hooked I think I have everything he ever made and it still sounds great. So you keep on doing what you are doing Barry and you will continue to have loyal fans from 3 generations.
It's been 10 months since fear ruled my life and I wrote a post to this song. Tonight, my son Shaun (he'll 4 in 2 months...where does the time go?) is asleep in bed, Lightning McQueen PJ's on and this is the greatest night of my life....again. I want to thank all of you who responded to my post, it's comforting to know that so many people I don't know, care. And I think that is the essence of Barry Manilow and this song. I made it through, no fear and life is great. Glenn

cortezlnc55. just hang on things will get better. i went through the same thing 4 yrs ago it hurts. be strong for shaun and he will know what a good DAD not father anyone can be a father but your a dad. good luck my friend.
This song just popped into my head today when I told someone we made it through the rain. I live in WIlmington, NC where we just got 23 inches of rain in 4 days. City underwater, Carolina Beach underwater. Thanks Barry for this great song that brought a smile after some scary days. WE MADE IT THROUGH.
@jrouam Boy, do you need to get a life or what. How arrogant to make a comment like you just did. I am a nurse who did have to drive in it late at night and it was treacherous. I have a friend who owns a business in Chandlers Wharf on Water St.-FLOODED, I live in CB and the lake flooded the street all the way down to McDonalds (much farther than 2 blocks) I don't know where you live, maybe you didn't flood, but there were many people here who were. Downtown and Carolina Beach.
@preemiepower I'm a store mgr. and I had to drive at midnight for all 5 nights and over a bridge.Bradley Creek way lower than anyother in town and I will agree with you WATER ST. flooded BY THE RIVER..I know NOT to be there...and have friends at CB one at 4th and Harper.WAY closer to the lake than Micky Dees and no flooding sorry I went through Floyd....6 ft. of water even living 15 miles from water!!! CB got more from Hurc. Hazel ask my dad who went through that been here much longer than U
@jrouam So please before you call me ARROGANT (don't care if you are a Nurse or a Brain surgeon ......) when you have been here 50+ year then talk to me.....other wise you are being a judge on things you do not know...............and if you have been here that long.....I might know you....
This one goes out to all my friends and family, who have stood by me despite the rough time. Who have cried with me, supported me, stood by me through the rain and the storms, especially to my loving mother and girlfriend who never leave my sides and supports me despite the difficult moments now and to come. You both are my strength, my courage and my rocks ! We have battled some rough storms together.

This song has cheered me through many tough times. I came back to it today as I celebrate yet another triumph over adversity. Chin up, ladies and gents. As long as there's life there is hope! You will make it through that rain!
you now what?To quote Randy Jackson.."He did his thing"..in a time it would have been easier to sing something else..he sang what he wanted to..and did it well...so screw all the haters..great singer and songwriter

BARRY MANILOW!!! A GREAT TALENT! BEAUTIFUL SONG!
Barry has been a great gift in bringing joy and happiness to thw world through his lovely and heartfelt music!
He is my favorite singer. The world is a happier place due to the joy Barry's music has brought it! Thanks Barry!!!!!

As a teenager, I loved the sense of independance about this song. At 42, I realise it reminds me of my mum who left a violent marriage, with 3 kids and did amazingly well on her own - without a penny or support from the old man. Bravo for Mum's!!!!

best friend just stopped cutting herself.
parents just stopped drinking,
i made it through the rain too.
its so great when you can cry to a song like this,
not of sadness,
for i have no more of those tears to cry.
but of joy.
the tears stream down my cheeks
and i realize that at 13 years of this.
i made it through the rain

BARRY MANILOW! Great Singer! "I Made It Through The Rain" is a beautiful song. Everyone can relate to this song, because everyone has had "difficult times." It is the human condition.
Barry's song therefore hits a real emotional note in all of us.
In addition it is just a beautiful song!!!

Lately, Mr. Manilow is looking a lot like Joan Rivers......Why can't people just accept their actual age? They're not fooling anyone......He was born in 1943, for Christ's sake.....which makes him 68 years old.....

Is this song about depression, drugs, shrinks???
messyblondemid90s 8 months ago

Life
ByronicWriter 8 months ago
@messyblondemid90s The song can refer to any experience that makes life seem unkind. Depression, drugs, alcohol, domestic violence, isolation, chronic illness, addiction, filthy rumours, bullying, unemployment, exam failure, bankruptcy, family troubles, bereavement... the list goes on and on. The important thing is not to let that experience grind you down, not to let it rob you of your dignity and true identity. If you don't let it beat you, others will respect you for it.
ivorlottandtonybroke 8 months ago

If you seek therapy and medication
