Best descending maj 3rd example ever! BTW what a cheesy host. And why does he have to look at the prompter so much? Ever wonder why our parents generation was so fucked up? They grew up with this shit!
During the first four years of the show (1955-'59), it was originally "THE DODGE DANCING PARTY", with Chrysler's Dodge division as the sole sponsor. Welk, who previously appeared on local TV in Los Angeles from 1951 through '55, became a national icon with the show, originally intended as a "summer replacement", but successful enough for Dodge to sustain it into the early '60s. It also helped ABC "build" its Saturday night schedule- enough for Welk to knock NBC's Sid Caesar off the air in 1957.
I think this early closing is much more inverntive and innovative than the later, more generic Adios, Au Revoir, Auf Wiedusehn[sp?] closing that came later. I like the later closing okay, but this is WAY more creative.
I grew up watching this show! Every Saturday night Lawrence Welk show came on. We kids loveingly called it the Bubble Head show. We would play in the school yard until a parent yelled, It's time for Lawrence Wlek! Then we knew it was time to go in. I don't think I or my family ever missed a week. Oh, the wonderful memories this brings.
I, too, love Lawrence's effervescence in these earlier years. Every once in awhile, you would see it in the later shows...but it just was not the same.
Danged it he doesn't look as if he is enjoying himself here. That snap and pop was missing when I saw the show in the 70s. Lawrence had some energy!!!
DODGE DANCING PARTY ENDING LYRICS This Closing Theme was a medley of Good Night Ladies, Hope You Had a Happy Time (to the tune Mary Had a Little Lamb), and Bubbles In The Wine. Good-night ladies, Farewell gentlemen, So long everyone, It's time to leave you now . . . Hope you had a happy time, Happy time, happy time . . . Hope you had a happy time, (spoken solo:) Dodge had a good time too... (spoken by everyone:) Good night!" (Segue into Bubbles In the Wine theme)
Ahhh...Champagne Music and a new Dodge Firedome! Life was really great in 1955.
