I'm not bagging on their efforts, but I think if the town wants to be taken more seriously as a Star Trek destination, they should set some standards for quality costumes for spokespeople. A nice idea would to be to divide the town's sections. One part is Borg and the retailers/businesses dress up as Borg. Another part could be Klingon. Dividing it up would encourage visitors to visit different parts of town & spend their dollars. According to area, restaurants could concoct special dishes

What's great is that they actually wanted the Premiere of Star Trek (2009), however, since they didn't have a theater and it wouldn't be practical to build one it didn't happen. BUT, the people of Vulcan were allowed to see an advance screening of the movie in Calgary.

I've never been to Vulcan, Alberta, but if they only have 2000 people, I'm not sure they'd have a cinema, let alone be able to afford to purchase the reel for the film. Those things are really expensive, and it might not have been worth it for 2000 people, despite their love for ST.

The town of Vulcan campaigned very hard to get the world premier of the latest 'Star Trek' movie. One roadblock was the town does not have a movie theatre so Paramount Pictures took a pass. When Leonard Nimoy read about what happened he told the studio to do something for the town so they did a special screening for the Vulcans at a movie theatre in Calgary a week before the picture went into full release.
