One of my three failed attempts in securing a suitable thumbnail snapshot for the video. (You might have noticed the same thing at 2:36 and 7:51.) The claim is that what you see at the 1/4-, 1/2-, and 3/4-marks of the video are captured for your available thumbnails to illustrate the video.
Alas, it didn't work... and I was too lazy to re-edit the pic into new times within the timeline to rectify the issue.
Forgive me if you found it distracting. And nice eye, btw. :)
That, my friend, was the dilapidated and tattered remains of a 20-something-year-old powerlifting belt. (My father used them a lot for lower back support in the 80's & 90's.) I was able to salvage the scraps of a few of them and ended up making strops out of them... and using them for stuff like this.
Yeah, hate it for you guys in the UK. As far as your question goes, it's a relative one. For example, CPMS30V is still the darling of the stainless community, and for good reason...but you pay for it. My best "quick" answer for you is if you're a heavy, daily knife user, you're going to be touching up this blade on a daily or, at least, a semi-weekly basis. As for me, a quick strop everyday goes a long way towards maintaining a moderately employed Skyline. Have a good one.
holy crap this is one of the best kershaw reviews i have seen, no scratch that its the best intro, the best facts, and the best........everything!! keep the vids coming! i subbed.
i had a Kershaw Skyline, but it had a large amount of play, and a bit of rust on the blade, and i bought it brand new, so i returned it and bought the buck vantage instead, but i really liked the feel of the Kershaw Skyline, is it worth giving the Skyline a second chance, maybe i just got a bad batch?
wtf???? im sitting here watching the intro to a knife review and i have freaking goose bumps!!!!!!!!!! , sweet music bro and top reveiw, Kersaw meet ur new ad/marketing manager,elpid0526!!!
Holy production value! Well played. I only buy Benchmade and Kershaw, and I often find myself grabbing this knife over more expensive/high quality blades like my favorite mini-griptilian. This is a great knife to own in this price range. Awesome review.
haha!! Yeah, got my wife the Mini-Grip with the pink handle. Hated the edge that came with it but it cleaned up very nice on the paper wheel sharpener. Great knife. Might have to do a review on it with the careful & clear disclaimer that the pink knife belongs to the missus, lol. Thanks for the kind words, my man!!
Excellent review, thanks for the time you put into that. I just picked up a Kershaw Skyline today and I'm really loving it so far. More than I expected to be honest.
OK that was a badass intro! just got mine today. Question! my flipper doesnt deploy blade all the way to lock without wrisrt flip. would like a gun oil help?
Yeah, gun oil could help -- some have their preferences for gun oils -- I've always been privy to Break Free CLP. But for knives (that I know I'll never use for food prep) I actually use Tuf-Glide by Sentry Solutions.
---
What I used for my Skyline was simple Mineral Oil. It is food safe and does an excellent job in lubricating and protecting the blade. Also remember that certain knives just have a natural break-in period. The deployment will get quicker with use.
Nice review Matt. I like Kershaw. My tyrade is awesome, although not as cheap as this model. I really liked that dedicated pointing device you use on the blade measurements.. lol.. nothing-fancy about that. :)
Well more ESEE stuff (obviously!) and also some more cKc as soon as I get the new one. If you can, get your hands on the Pathfinder it is amazing, I cannot say enough good about this knife. If you like the Hiker and Belt you will love the Pathfinder :)
Speak of the devil. Figured you'd be to your ears in movie-editing insanity right now. Was going to drop off a little private message but didn't want you to feel pressured to answer immediately with your schedule. Guess now I will, lol.
Awesome review thanks

how do you clean you knife after the food prep?
gilliesniper99 4 months ago
@gilliesniper99
Immediately afterwards...Water, mild soap and finally coat it with a light layer of mineral oil.
elpidi0526 4 months ago
@elpidi0526
btw, wash off the soap (or dishwashing liquid), of course. ;)

@elpidi0526 That claim is very old and did once work.
Now it's completely random.
You would have to upload a few hundred or thousand times to get lucky.
That, or have some long footage that is thumb-worthy. Good vid btw.
I'm torn between the Skyline, Blur or ZT 0350. Help? Lol.

Excellent review. Here in the UK its a much more expensive knife (around 75usd).
How well does the steel hold its edge. Its a steel I've never used before.
Cheers......Ian
