I'm liking you more and more. You run quite a fun set it sounds. It feels like some independent shoots I've been on. But you guys seem to make it fun. I'm really liking learning what it was like on set.
And as I watch that scene I hear Mary giving direction right next to the camera. I'm sooo not used to that. I'm used to the director yelling back at me from behind video village. That's the monitors that the director and department heads all sit at in other productions. I'd be a little intimidated I'd have to admit.
3:08 Ah! Set antics! Gotta love it. You know you're having a great time when you can hear the crew laughing so loud it gets picked up by the boom mic on set.
3:14 all I could think of were the spit buckets they'd use. Those must be some pretty tasty cookies, because I don't know if I could handle all those takes.
Brave soldiers you have.
3:57 I don't understand what the "Oh, Hai!" part was about tho. Some actor exercise?
Watching the credits, I noticed some episodes that weren't written by Mary weren't as good. I don't thing they were as well constructed as when Mary wrote it without cowriters. It just felt better. The writing seemed to
The "Oh Hi!" was wild sound, which is sound to be inserted later, The actors are not generally on camera when they do it, but in this case they were. Hence, silliness!
Great to hear the "cut" clip at the end. Always nice to hear that, and "check in the gate," "good gate." And my personal favorite, "That's a wrap!" Because even though I love shooting, depending on how much sleep I can manage the night before, 10-12 hours on a set can be draining.
Oh and yes, btw, who was that hottie dancing in the back at 2:20? Was that you Mary? Or a PA or writer or something?
That's Albert, our editor, sleeping on the couch. Our shooting crew was usually him, Neil (the DP) and me, though on some shoots we had Jenni or the occasional roving PA.
This is funny partly to me because of the sound issues you guys had. I'm so used to people yelling out "quiet on the set" and seeing a PA run, that seeing actors wait makes me laugh. But understandable on a scale where you also need to protect the shooting location over time spent waiting. On a network show, time is money. About $1000 per minute wasted. When there's a small crew, time is affordable.
Jamie's quite impressive 0:10 both as Jamie and as Taffy.
wardrobe ladies come out with those long blue jackets they always sem to have to keep the actors warm.
The hair part right about 0:30 is where Carly realizes ut oh! This is not supposed to happen! I'm gonna sell it... She's too adorable, I think she so could have overpowered the Taffy character, but I think under good directing paired with a good actress, Ashley didn't steal Taffy's scenes. But I think Carly could easily hold a leading lady role. Just love her in that blooper. It's hard to ch
0:41 sound issues again. Incessant barking. You should have seen me shake my head. Hate it when that happens. This is why they say never work with kids or animals. At about late 0:44 Jamie loses it too, lol.
I have no idea about the guys on the show, but all of them seemed a little bit too creepy to me. But they had a purpose to the story and necessary for the character development and the development of the storylines.
producer though. It would have been nice to not have him turn into such a loser.
All I could see after 1:15 was boom! Boom's in the shot! Thankfully in digital editing one can just push in and cut the borders out in a shot like that. And good job on using one btw. Great decision for sound.
I don't know why, but I never really liked Carrie, maybe it was meant to be that way because she wasn't meant to be in there long.
And haha, 1:41 who was that guy, the grip? Funny. Did he really fall
Well, considering that most of the time we didn't have a PA, and dogs don't really respond to the "quiet on the set" command, we were kinda stuck with him. I love all the sound, normally - it gives the place a real urban feel, But yeah, that dog was non-stop.
Oh, and that's not a boom in the shot. The mic is attached to the camera, but when the camera is wide and the mic is pointed down, sometimes you can see it. Which is one reason it's a blooper!
I agree. The urbanness does work to a certain degree. Sound is a big issue with me. Nothing is as disheartening when you go home to digitize the dailies, throw the footage into the editing bay and hear that you can't use the original track because of surrounding environment noise.
Wheres the rest of the seasons!!
