  • Kickass project, great build and great video. Thanks for the laughs and yes The Legend Of Zelda is my favorite NES game and one of my favorite games of all time

  • What did you use to paint the system? What kind of paint? And how did you maintain the Nintendo Entertainment System Decal on the front?

  • FUTURE Y U NO BRING THE 80's BACK ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)

  • Awesome dude! top skill making it all work

  • one major flaw, the games were 4x3 and your tv stretches it out to 16x9

  • @Makell

Others have pointed this out before, and it was a deliberate decision, not a flaw. I debated a long time on whether I should go stretched or keep it at 4:3. Most people have wide screens these days, so if I want to bring it to a friend's house, it will most likely be on a widescreen. I personally don't like the stretched look, but even more than that, I can't stand the black bars on the sides of a 16:9 screen when something is displayed 4:3. So I decided to go stretched.

  • Anyone else have the pleasure of playing with the Sega Saturn?

  • Where can I find a tutorial to do this myself? Great work.

  • @Mrhemlock

There are a lot of little turtorials on the web for homemade NES boxes, but everyone has their own way of doing things. I sort of just winged it and did this my own way, learning things while I did it.

  • I have a question, i am doing something very close to what your are doing, but i'm having trouble getting the themes in hyperspin to work. i was able to get the little video working for the tubes but themes i cant seem to grasp my head around how to do it

  • @i986scripto

In the Hyperspin Media folder, you have all the different system/consoles listed right? Each system/console folder under the Media folder is where your box images, wheel art, etc all goes for the system/console you're building out. Themes will also go there (and you should see a Themes folder for each system). So just like all the other stuff, a theme must match the exact name of your game as it appears in your database, and a theme will be zipped. Hope that helps.

  • How did you get that or make the rubber piece for the window on top. I've been scratching my head trying to figure that out. LOL.

  • @oneupmario

It's just a rubber lining (or some may call it a window mold). You can get it from PC window kits or buy it seperately.

  • @buddwm Wow! I didn't think you'd respond! Very awesome! Thank you!!!

  • game genie?!???!? anyway how do i get my hands on one of these???

  • LONG LIVE NES !

  • I came....

  • @buddwm I built my nes pc 6 years ago, you certainly put mine to shame with the frontend loader. I'm looking at integrating hyperspin into my box, just curious how you such a clean startup. did you modify the OS to not load completely, or was hyperspin on the startup directory with the win7 splash blanked out?

  • @trackmvp39

I shelled Hyperspin into Windows. The Win7 boot splash was also blanked out.

  • This is fucking awesome!! I know every song u have in all ur videos...as a fellow Nintendo lover, I appreciate people who go above and beyond for their passion. Good stuff...

  • Hey Love your video but i have a question about your controller ports.

I'm working on my own build and it would be cool to wire the ports into the front usb controller so if you can could you send me a link for what usb controller or chip you used just reply with a link or personally name it.

I already sorted out the power button i just need to know what kind of chip you used

    PLEASE REPLY :)

  • @ethograb I don't know if it's the brand the uploader used, but retrousb sells NES controller to USB adapters.

  • How did you mess with seven's boot?

I'm sick and tired of the screen when I boot this computer, I'd love to be able to do that!

  • how did you keep the logo on the front?

  • @pablokornilovich

I had to repaint it. Basically drew a vector graphic of it (took a very long time to get it right) and had a friend who was able to make a cut-out of it from the graphic to be used as the paint mask.

  • @buddwm thanks, that might help with an nes i want to paint

  • has it no ram?

  • There has to be a point where its so awesome that its worth the trouble for these companies to sue. I think this project is really close to that line. Im sure there would be huge demand if you made these!

  • Brilliant.

  • This is so cool. i love it. im gonna build one.

  • Where the hell can I buy one of those things?

  • Do you have an installable OS that anyone can use or something similar? If not you should make one!

  • SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

  • I would buy this with money... REAL MONEY!

  • Sell this. NOW! :)

  • How much?

  • now make a super nes pc? :D

  • @DontFearGrim

Part 1 of the SNES PC Build is already up.

  • I've thrown my money like seven times at you. The damn screen keeps blocking it.

  • is that kevin fucking spacey talking?!?!

  • extra points for super meat boy t-shirt

  • @Mildewed minus points for thinking domo = super meat boy

  • SNES creeper!

  • 10:54 Soon!

  • are you selling these? I may be interested!

  • WANTTTTTTTT

  • Take. My. Fucking. Money.

  • I would buy one at once.

  • where can i steal one?

  • awesome is the zotac strong enough for other emulators? like n64 etc?

  • Ok, I think we all want one. So are you going to share detailed instructions on how you did this? I would love to build one myself!

  • idd- gr8 job dude- tell nintendo to sell it for u=)))

  • system you are using, i could probably build this, but i wouldnt know how to program it like that.

  • dude that intro song @ 6:49 is hot, wish it didnt stop

  • @MrGrizmint word.

  • If you were willing to sell this, including labour time and parts, what is an estimate of cost.

  • that looks like an HD nes :P

  • "this box is my way of saying 'thanks'."

How so? I can't enjoy it. This box is actually your way of saying "fuck yeah, I own every nes game and can play them instantly"

  • omg sell it?~!?@~?@~?@

  • I would buy one of these for EACH fucking room!! Market this shit, PLEASE!!

  • GAHHH whats the song that starts around 6:32

  • Okay, awesome, now.... F*CKING GIVE THAT BEAUTIFUL AND SEXY BEAST TO ME! D:

  • this was awesome to behold....

  • I was gonna type 'are you a god' but then i scrolled down and one of the top comments is that you are a god, so then typed 'are you a wizard?'

  • "Destroying the Zelda cartridge" NOOOOOOO

  • I just saw your Cal jersey... GO BEARS!

  • awesome!!! subbed and fave'd xD

  • Wow sir, this is totally cool! I have seen NES PC's before, but that front end and loading screen is totally unique! Nice work!

  • brilliant, want that as _NES and Snes

  • This is fucking amazing. Any chance of a SNES PC?

  • @MrGENOCIDEGeorge

The SNES part 1 video was posted.

  • Comment removed

  • it's like a dreamcast.. but you actually put more effort than required to BURN A FUCKING DISC. jesus, just get a dreamcast bro.

  • @do0rkn0b Thank you, sir, for showing that you actually have the level of intelligence suggested by your username.

  • @ebiljebus evil jesus, eh?

  • Are you going to sell any of these if so how much!?

  • @hameed

    Haha...true. I love Minecraft.

  • @hameed Harhar chessey jokes, Minecraft doesn't even look like an NES game I don't find joke funny :P

  • So do you have the ENTIRE catalog of NES games built in?

  • I loved life force!

  • Dear Santa...

  • almost cried

  • this is beautiful

  • no I didn't cry

  • why are you using windows? you could get away with underclocking if you used a linux based OS and it would help with head plus boot time.

  • @niaimack

Hyperspin is Windows only. I don't know of another arcade front-end menu in Linux that can do what Hyperspin does.

  • how much did this build cost? or did you just build this out of misc parts you had?

  • @gabefett

Didn't really cost much - yes, a lot of it was misc parts I already had.

  • Great idea and nice delivery - but that intro was way too long to get to the game list.

  • Very nice work wes, a man after my own heart.

  • You got my hopes up for a SNES PC Build!

  • Impressive build. The NES era was a great time to grow up.

  • This video just made me like a little baby. It was beautiful. And I'm drunk.

  • To all you asking for him to start making and selling these, learn to build one yourself. There are plenty of guides out there.

  • I would pay a good amount of money for it. That thing is amazing.

  • did the motherboard die because no ESD prevention measures?

  • snes snes snes!!! NES love.

  • That's fucking killer dude

  • is this for sale? Seriously asking

  • love that you used Astyanax theme in the end

  • So it's like a computer with an emulator installed, but with an intro and an extravagant UI?

  • @DwarfioHax He is one of the pretentious twats from penny-arcade forums of course it's going to be extravagant.

  • I would pay more to have this over any XBOX or PS3

  • excellent work sir. market it and sell it. youll make a shit ton of cash.

  • I want this...

  • I want one :<

  • is there game genie?

  • would u make anothr and sell it???

  • TIL about hobby lobby!

  • SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

  • I WANT IT.

  • You just pulled me back 20-25 yrs, thank you!

  • Does anyone remember the name of the game at 2:08-2:12? I remember playing it when i was a kid; I'd love to pick it up again.

  • @wheetus Hmmm, there was multiple games there. But I saw Rad Racer, Master Blaster (awesome game) and of course Contra.

  • Respond to this video... Master Blaster, Rad racer or contra. I saw all three in that span

  • Awesome. I can relate to your love of NES.

  • Dude, I don't care how much this thing is. I fucking want to buy it.

  • @Dummy288

    ZOTAC GF9300-I-E

  • Nice, but the aspect ratio is wrong.

  • @Waremonger

Yeah, many have pointed that out - I'll make the SNES build 4:3 for the video.

  • @buddwm look I am not normally a troll but you should have told that dude to eat a bag of dicks. This is awesome and you are awesome for taking the time to create it. I also want to thank you for taking the time to post this on youtube.

  • @buddwm Don't know if anyone has pointed this out yet, but SNES has a resolution ratio of 8:7, not 4:3.

  • @fg1i

Hrm...I'll make sure to get it right. Thanks for pointing it out. FYI, I can easily switch the aspect ratio on the NES PC, I just left it stretched for the video. I'll comment in the next SNES video about it.

  • Who made the music during the title sequence?

  • @TheCuretoDieing Assuming you mean the title sequence we see when he turns on the NES... the very first part of that music was the opening menu music to Metroid. The rest was Wizards and Warriors, some of the best music from a game ever. A bit of it was remixed Wizards and Warriors... but definitely do a youtube search for it. The music from that game is amazing and I love that he chose it for the title sequences. The very beginning of the video was Zelda of course.

  • Oh fuck I would give you a million blow jobs in a row if you did this with the SNES.

  • how much did it cost you to make this, times that price by 3 TIMES AND ILL BUY IT! I WILL DO ANYTHING FOR ONE OF THOES!

  • wow, awesome.... or you can just nesfun.com... pc wins

  • You are my hero, and a hero for all. Thank you.

  • Dude, I totally have that Ken Griffy Jr. Issue. I always wanted to submit my scores to the Arena, but the best camera we had at the time was a crappy Polaroid, and I couldn't afford the disposables.

  • I need one.

  • Have you got any information on how you modded the controller ports and wired them up to the USB controller?

  • @FinallyaBR

There are a lot of solutions - you have to get a USB controller chip. Look on Ebay or retrousb.com.

  • Holy epic. I want one. Subscribed.

  • only 2 more steps this guy needs to do, and they are as follows:

    1. SHUT UP

    2. TAKE MY MONEY!!!

  • I wish I could thumb-up this a million times, brilliant work :)

  • You think with all that effort that he would use the correct aspect ratio.

  • @grimbracken

Yeah, I know what you mean. I debated a long time on whether I should go stretched or keep it at 4:3. Most people have wide screens these days, so if I want to bring it to a friend's house and play it, it will most likely be on a widescreen. I personally don't like the stretched look either, but even more than that, I can't stand the black bars on the sides of a 16:9 screen when something is displayed 4:3. So I decided to go stretched. For the SNES build, I will keep it 4:3.

  • Saying I love this is an understatement. This is fucking incredible!!! I never knew those themes existed I use nestopia to play all my old nes games so it was just load the game and go. This blows my mind more than words can express. I know there's all those licensing issues but If it was ever possible, nintendo should buy the design from you and market this. It's so much better than that stupid nintendo market thing ( i don't own a wii, so i don't know what it's called) and once more.. AMAZING!

  • Who the hell would dislike this. Just go to another page.

  • I buy from you!

  • So, what kind of beer should I bring when I come over to play NES later?

  • @claytonI28 Not hard? Programming an emulator, especially for the ps3 (Y'know, completely different architecture) is insanely hard.

  • hey, port this to ps3 3.55 jailbreak that would be amazing and not hard

  • Do this for SNES/Genesis

  • Infinite fucking likes for crediting all the music used at the end.

  • Kevin Spacey plays NES?

  • SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

  • @LiquidxSquid Probably - and unfortunately - illegal to sell it.

  • @LiquidxSquid I was thinking the same thing when watching this video.

  • i'll give you $1988 for it..

  • You sir, are a god.

  • What game is that at 2:10?! I played it so long ago I don't remember what it's called at all. Help please!

  • @SpheX05

    Rad Racer.

  • Woops, not Rad Racer, Blaster Master.

  • @SpheX05 within that time block: Rad Racer; Blaster Master; Contra

  • @SpheX05 2:10 has rad racer and it looks like a clip of master blaster

  • @SpheX05 Actually, I will stake the life of my firstborn that the game you mean is Blaster Master.

  • You should make a ton of these things and sell them on ebay! I would buy atleast 1.

  • you are my new hero....... sorry Mario.

  • Just FYI - new video should come this month - hopefully in a week or so.

  • Where can get that program for my pc

  • @brandonnesfan

If you mean the front-end, it's called Hyperspin. For some reason it won't allow me to paste a URL in the comments, so just google it and you will get the site.

  • COOL

  • How in all world did you manage to get Windows to boot like that? (5:52) I would really like to know.

  • WOOT Final Fantasy 1 and Dragon Warior for the wi

  • Holy crap I wish I could get one but I guess connecting my pc with emulators and roms is what I have to do. Oh and get Nes/snes USB controllers. You should try making the "Ultimate Arcade" Your favorite or Most Popular Atari, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS1, maybe more games in 1! So I'm guessing, you using like at least 300 GB and build it out of a XBOX or an Atari (hard if you do) and the games SHOULD be in HDMI but if you don't wanna do that, then get yourself a VAIO 600 GB laptop, get JNES, Z

  • I like this mentality. We need fewer people saying "I want one of those" and more people saying "I want to make one of those"

  • gift me your nes!

  • With what kinda software did you use to make that intro video?

  • How did you make the nes controller work on usb? is there any adapter or something?

  • 5 people played Sega... And sucked.

  • Awesome build! Software interface looks cool too! I've been wanting to do this ever since I first read about one that was done a few years ago.

I have some NES shells laying around but, unfortunately, I don't know how to solder and I know longer have a steady hand due to "essential tremor". Also, I'd have to learn some wiring diagrams and such in order to make all work.

The hole in the top is nicely cut and the black lining does make it look all the better.

Hard Drive in the cart is brilliant!
