Kickass project, great build and great video. Thanks for the laughs and yes The Legend Of Zelda is my favorite NES game and one of my favorite games of all time
Others have pointed this out before, and it was a deliberate decision, not a flaw. I debated a long time on whether I should go stretched or keep it at 4:3. Most people have wide screens these days, so if I want to bring it to a friend's house, it will most likely be on a widescreen. I personally don't like the stretched look, but even more than that, I can't stand the black bars on the sides of a 16:9 screen when something is displayed 4:3. So I decided to go stretched.
There are a lot of little turtorials on the web for homemade NES boxes, but everyone has their own way of doing things. I sort of just winged it and did this my own way, learning things while I did it.
I have a question, i am doing something very close to what your are doing, but i'm having trouble getting the themes in hyperspin to work. i was able to get the little video working for the tubes but themes i cant seem to grasp my head around how to do it
In the Hyperspin Media folder, you have all the different system/consoles listed right? Each system/console folder under the Media folder is where your box images, wheel art, etc all goes for the system/console you're building out. Themes will also go there (and you should see a Themes folder for each system). So just like all the other stuff, a theme must match the exact name of your game as it appears in your database, and a theme will be zipped. Hope that helps.
@buddwm I built my nes pc 6 years ago, you certainly put mine to shame with the frontend loader. I'm looking at integrating hyperspin into my box, just curious how you such a clean startup. did you modify the OS to not load completely, or was hyperspin on the startup directory with the win7 splash blanked out?
This is fucking awesome!! I know every song u have in all ur videos...as a fellow Nintendo lover, I appreciate people who go above and beyond for their passion. Good stuff...
Hey Love your video but i have a question about your controller ports.
I'm working on my own build and it would be cool to wire the ports into the front usb controller so if you can could you send me a link for what usb controller or chip you used just reply with a link or personally name it.
I already sorted out the power button i just need to know what kind of chip you used
I had to repaint it. Basically drew a vector graphic of it (took a very long time to get it right) and had a friend who was able to make a cut-out of it from the graphic to be used as the paint mask.
There has to be a point where its so awesome that its worth the trouble for these companies to sue. I think this project is really close to that line. Im sure there would be huge demand if you made these!
@buddwm look I am not normally a troll but you should have told that dude to eat a bag of dicks. This is awesome and you are awesome for taking the time to create it. I also want to thank you for taking the time to post this on youtube.
Hrm...I'll make sure to get it right. Thanks for pointing it out. FYI, I can easily switch the aspect ratio on the NES PC, I just left it stretched for the video. I'll comment in the next SNES video about it.
@TheCuretoDieing Assuming you mean the title sequence we see when he turns on the NES... the very first part of that music was the opening menu music to Metroid. The rest was Wizards and Warriors, some of the best music from a game ever. A bit of it was remixed Wizards and Warriors... but definitely do a youtube search for it. The music from that game is amazing and I love that he chose it for the title sequences. The very beginning of the video was Zelda of course.
Dude, I totally have that Ken Griffy Jr. Issue. I always wanted to submit my scores to the Arena, but the best camera we had at the time was a crappy Polaroid, and I couldn't afford the disposables.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I debated a long time on whether I should go stretched or keep it at 4:3. Most people have wide screens these days, so if I want to bring it to a friend's house and play it, it will most likely be on a widescreen. I personally don't like the stretched look either, but even more than that, I can't stand the black bars on the sides of a 16:9 screen when something is displayed 4:3. So I decided to go stretched. For the SNES build, I will keep it 4:3.
Saying I love this is an understatement. This is fucking incredible!!! I never knew those themes existed I use nestopia to play all my old nes games so it was just load the game and go. This blows my mind more than words can express. I know there's all those licensing issues but If it was ever possible, nintendo should buy the design from you and market this. It's so much better than that stupid nintendo market thing ( i don't own a wii, so i don't know what it's called) and once more.. AMAZING!
If you mean the front-end, it's called Hyperspin. For some reason it won't allow me to paste a URL in the comments, so just google it and you will get the site.
Holy crap I wish I could get one but I guess connecting my pc with emulators and roms is what I have to do. Oh and get Nes/snes USB controllers. You should try making the "Ultimate Arcade" Your favorite or Most Popular Atari, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS1, maybe more games in 1! So I'm guessing, you using like at least 300 GB and build it out of a XBOX or an Atari (hard if you do) and the games SHOULD be in HDMI but if you don't wanna do that, then get yourself a VAIO 600 GB laptop, get JNES, Z
