Well make sure your wrist is properly bent and the neck of the guitar is lying along the palm of the hand (as opposed to usually lying between thumb and index-finger with a straight wrist) - so as to get your thumb around properly. Apart from that it takes some time to get used to. Can also recommend a justin sandercoe lesson on youtube called RH-010 Hendrix style rhythem guitar. Good luck! Rgds
How long have you been playing? I've been playing 3 and 1/2 years using a different grip and want to change to this one. Did you find it hard to change grips or are you a new player? Nice playing btw
thanks. I've been playing an acoustic for some years, but got my fender last spring. It takes a little getting used to this grip - particularly the wrist position, but it really is useful to practice. I'm currently practicing SRVs Texas Flood and Little Wing version, and wouldn't have managed these without the groundwork on this "hendrix grip". all the best.
What song is this???

Man, I've been trying this dang grip style for the past 6 months and I'm no closer to making it work than I was 6 months ago when I started.
i'm using a Squier 51 so that neck should fit better than a strat neck.
Do I have to buy a damn strat just to get this grip? Yeesh....this is frickin impossible!!!

Wow, I probably would have given myself Carpal Tunnel syndrome trying to play in that style the old-style way...
