This is HORRIBLE quality even for 1977. There's better footage & I've seen it, It's the real deal & it marks one of the most historic moments in this planet's history.
@ MrYellowlabs, it is a fair question that you ask, but its not that simple. Elvis was an addict and a very POWERFUL CELEBRITY at that. When Priscilla was out of the scene (after 1973) Elvis became lonely and depressed and stayed close with the "MEMPHIS MAFIA" (his close circle of friends). If you every brought up Elvis' "drug problem" to anyone ESPECIALLY Elvis, you were ostersized and ridiculed. Just ask Sonny and Red West who were about to write a "tell-all" book about Elvis before he died
chuckling......there's a few more layers to this than u seem to think. When will people try to learn from these things instead of just mocking them as trash. That "book" was the biggest load of crap ever published by a set of bitter jealous bitches. The whole story will eventually come out....it's just a shame that dried up crusty FORMER Elvis insiders decided to take the low road and throw him under the bus.
I've seen the clearer version of this and you can see the stretcher being loaded. I saw a comment on the original video and it said that it was Dr. Nick's car racing up the driveway, but I'm not sure it was him or not. Why doesn't the film owner post the actual video on here? The video that I saw had other footage on it, a van with a painting on the wheel cover parked out in front of the gate, it belonged to the guy filming this footage.
I could also take a bad camera now film some traffic and crowds, put it on the worst vhs-tape with the worst vhs-recorder I have and upload it to Youtube as "HQ" and say; this is the only footage in the world of Jesus who showed himself once again in 1974... This is nothing... sorry..
I lived in Memphis 30 years, from 1973 to 2003, and in the 70s there were people at the gate 24/7/365. I could go by there at 3 am and there would be dozens of fans outside the gates. Amazing. That's why I always assumed there was at least a couple, if not more, photos of the ambulance that day. Being 1977, I never thought about a video, or 8mm camera being there, but it was.
Also that historic last photo was ACTUALLY taken approx. 12:30am on the 16th. So realistically, they caught him about 81/2 hours before he died. There's been rumors, but I take them lightly until there's some proof, but it's been said there was another photo taken of him later on that morning as well!
People who knew said he had a great sense of humor but being a perfectionist he was actually harder on himself than he ever was on anyone else. He was his own biggest critic. He often said he wanted to do better because he didn't think it was good enough what he was doing. He mentioned often he blamed himself being away from his Mother and Priscilla is why he lost them. He felt God took them away because he deserted them being on stage performing too much.
He just finished playing racket ball being at 6AM being up all night and went to bed shortly after in the morning. He often in the last years stayed up all night and go to sleep in the morning. I understand that problem. I'm not an expert but I have the problem being awake all night and going to sleep in the morning. It does kill anyone eventually and their life is shortened. The being a perfectionist & worrying like a sports player competitor that you have to push yourself better with the times
This is Really Sad and I'm Ashamed of Myself to be thinking of His demise When what We ALL should be doing is celebrating his Life.,No Elvis HAS NOT "Left The Building"!!
This is the real deal,,,I've heard that the car speeding up was one of the Stanley brothers. All I know is that this frames Elvis approx. 5 hours after he'd passed away. On better quality film, you can actually see them load Elvis' body on a stretcher into the ambulance. Then it rushes off. A "normal" day of fans camping out in front of Graceland turns into a day to be compared to none. A day of no comparison. Absolutely incredible. Rest In Peace ELVIS
he didn't drink & diabetes wasn't the culprit. he had a number of MAJOR health problems. congestive heart failure & major organ failure were primary factors. A highly toxic level of codeine was also present.
@knutfheifer I loved Elvis lots and saw him live twice. One concert was way different than the other as far as ELVIS himself...he could not remember words, etc....DRUGS was the culprit for his death so young.
@Deneised That is so tragic, it must have been an experience though to see him live, I was only a child when he died and grew up with his music, I think it will allways be timeless and there will definatley never be anyone like him again ever.
uhhh....not quite. Elvis didn't even drink! Pressure, yes. The pressure to be "ELVIS" - That Superhuman man of steel ALL OF THE TIME is what destroyed him. He belonged to the world & a microscope was on him 24/7. There's no way he would have lived much longer. His major organs had been showing signs of slowing shutting down for MONTHS, his heart was over 2x's normal size, arteries of a man twice his age & not to mention his nearly blocked colon letting toxins run rampant!
@Phoenix7878 he also ate a pound of bacon on his own regularly for most of his life, anyone who did that would die at 42! plus all the stress of being Elvis and having such a hectic life, you know.
Yes,,part of this film is missing...at the beginning, the fan who took this footage owned a van with elvis design and was parked in the off-side street in front of graceland and he was filming his van and the house...he was asked by the guards to move his van and he had to move away from the area...(guards knew an ambulance was on its way)he kept filming and that was dr nick car running up.
I blame Elvis for his own demise. Nobody forced those drugs on him. Yes, Dr. Nick was complicit, as were other doctors and friends, but at the end of the day, people tried to help Elvis and he just didnt want the help.
@fosterlink I will say and will stick by my opinion that Dr Nick was partly to blame for the death of Elvis, he over prescribed Elvis medication and I know that maybe Elvis got meds from other places but Nick as far as I am concerned contribute to Elvis death and nothing and no one will every change my way of thinking that.
@fosterlink. From what I've read Dr Nick had a light green metallic Mercedes. The car that goes through the gates looks like a Caddy or something. Hard to tell I know but definitely not a Merc. David Stanley had a Datsun sports so it's not him either.
People. this is THE REAL DEAL. I KNOW THE INDIVIDUAL WHO OWNS THE RIGHTS TO IT. It is historic & sad, but was unbelievably caught on film. In the future, they'll probably be able to clean it up considerably, but what you are looking at is AUGUST 16th, 1977. The last minutes of our HERO before he was officially pronounced dead.
we lived in the house to the right - adjacent to the Graceland property - my older sister used to go over and swim in the pool and Elvis never said anything - I can attest that those certainly appear to be the real footage - I was ten years old (same as Lisa) at that time - it was a wierd day in a way that it just wasn't real -
I don't buy it. While the gates of Graceland might have been open to allow the ambulance to pass through, the wall of Graceland should have been visible from 0:51 on. It is not and that wall is very long.
This is Elvis' final worldly electromagnetic planar transform outing, yellow green no less, and dronish, 60hz, that familar hum he knew from his pal mic. The mind is transducted through this tube to other palettes on other planes, and will soon forget the last so that the riddle of existence cannot be cracked open and found to be nothing at all.
@itsjustme2919 a case of circa 70's floppy filament bulbs, and you'll need a time tunnel and paradox cracker since all those bulbs are blown out in the present time, having flipped their last flop, per hit
I have this footage in better quality. If you look close, you can actually see the back of the ambulance door open & a person put inside. This is not the best footage.
I've seen more of this video as well and the people that shot it film their van and the back week cover of the van has Elvis on it. You can also see a gold colored vehicle go into the gates and up to the house prior to the ambulance leaving.
This film is real, it was filmed on that day. Just terrible technology, 1977, not a very good camera, no zoom, and 33 years old now. I have seen copies of this on other websites maybe 10 years ago, and know of the person in Arkansas who owns it. With that being said I can't see anything happening that is talked about in books, like Dr Nick meeting the ambulance halfway down the drive...
@deboisblanc there has to be a way to clean this up with todays technology...i was thinking it may be from "this is elvis" a documentary that was in part filmed at graceland. everything ive read has dr nick showing up as they were loading elvis into the ambulance....there is a few pics ive seen too lately that show the ambulance at the gates that day....pretty cool if its actual footage....
It's very hard to see much. But I'm good friends with the individual in Arkansas who owns it. It actual footage there's more of it than this in just a bit better quality & I myself must have had to watch this dozens of times in a row, slowing it down, really focusing on the front of the house. I can't say for sure who's in the cars coming up & down the drive, but there were more things going on earlier in the footage. You CAN see them load Elvis in the back & bolt.
Thanks for your reply, I haven't been over here in a while. My mom who passed away last year, lived in the same town as the people who own this film, from what I've been told. I have a brother who still lives there, and I have wondered if I might have the opportunity to see the original film, if there is one that is in better condition. I don't doubt it is from 8/16/77. Do your friends say what time this film was taken? Does it match the story of 2:30 that afternoon?
Sorry to hear about your mom. And yes it was about that time frame. People like always were always around just to maybe get a glimpse of him (and they did several times right before he passed away) They were just filming the area & the house from the parking lot across the street when the just happened to notice all the commotion over there so that's when the camera was fixed on the house. (It's most likely he had passed away bout 9am. But the ambulance wasn't called till here
@deboisblanc At the :22 second mark, you see Dr. Nick's Mercedes screaming up the driveway just for a split second. Obviously the person filming was stopping the camera. At the :16 second mark you see the stretcher being loaded into the ambulance. Nick was getting there as they were loading Elvis into the ambulance.
@deboisblanc Just because it can't bee seen doesn't mean it didn't happen. The camera is held in one spot for an aweful long time before the ambulance passes. The driveway is not that long. Must have stopped for someone imho.
So odd, I feel like they weren't rushing at all :S, then again maybe it's just he video quality that makes ti look like they way slower then anybody else (anybody who isn't rushing :S).
