This is cool. My dad used to take me to Forbidden Planet - but for some reason, I swear it was uptown by 59th street and 3rd, near the Imaginasian theater.....anyone know when that one opened and shut?
@jordancloudbuster You remember correctly. For a time there were two locations open simultaneously. The 59th street one shut down sometime in the early '90s/
Hey, you're on the money NYCDeadMan, same here! Back in the late '80s, on Saturday late mornings/early afternoons, I'd shop there for a while first, then I'd cross the street and shop at Strand's. I miss FP's old location, as well. Now, like everything else, it's definitely NOT what it used to be. Those were the days!
Yeah you right WildGirl, Where the hell am I? Buck and Whitey Babes? I was much better looking than those slobs. Just so you people know, I (Vicc Fool) managed the toy dept. back then. Yeah and Don Rock's future wife up in the office. Christ, were those the days?
Awesome man. Spent many Saturday afternoons there as a kid. This used to be the greatest store when it was in the original location. Now that they've moved...not so great.
Watching your vid is like hopping aboard a time machine.. from the giant store sign to the basement toys. i was about 12 yrs old. I actually remember the yellow bearded fellow behind the counter!
Wow! Thank you so much for posting this. I loved the old FP when I was a kid. I long ago grown out of that stuff, but I've often related to my wife all the good times I had there many moons ago. If you have any other old footage (of anything), please post.

From a current employee, this is mind-blowing that all of this footage was shot when I was 2 years old.
