You don't know squat about God if you think you should praise yourself with tricks instead using your music to praise God. Thats the problem with church musicians these days, all they want to do is show all the tricks they can do and have people record them during church instead of going to church to minister and be ministered too. Secondly my friend a true drummer who knows music knows the time for tricks is during a solo not during a song. Compliment the music not yourself.

Listen amatuer, this is GOSPEL SHOUT music, it's not gospel shout music if it doesn't have any licks. You probably sound boring when you play, if you even play an instrument that is. I know what you're saying, there's a time for everything, but don't take it to a rediculous point.

What's the point of music in church, to praise God, if all you worrying about is what licks to play, then you aren't praising God, you are trying to show off and when you are showing off your are praising yourself. Of course you won't get that. An amatuer buy videos to learn licks. Since you answered me so quickly tell me all the scales major and minor and the formula for the blues scale and church modes amatuer.

Can you read music? Can you transpose all the woodwind and brass instruments? I'll help you the blues scale is 1-b3-4-#4-5-b7th. Do you even know what that means? Ionian is a major scale and Aeolian is a minor scale so don't worry about those modes. Look at my videos I break things down, I've seen your videos, no teaching.

Good after a month I was hoping you would finally learned some which you just said but I know you really don't know. If it was childish you wouldn't have replied. Also a child sits and throws insults while an adult puts them in their place. I displayed my knowledge on the spot while you after a month still throws insults and shows no knowledge. Never said that, licks are cool but pointless showboating and playing too many licks are bad anywhere, but if you knew a true musician and if you was a true musician you would know that. You are the typical young church instrument player of today, try all the tricks and fills they can think of and know nothing about music. When I ask them to play a scale and put music in there face they know nothing. But hey you still coming quick with the mouth but still didn't back up nothing. Knowledge please

People who throw tricks in everything are showboaters. Just don't talk trash if you can't back it up. On the real go learn how to read, fundamentals, and some basic theory and it will make your playing so much better and open up more options for you and your music. Wish you the best.

I'm answering this not for this young man but for the young musicians who still have time to learn something because some people are happy in there ignorance so this is not for him. All music is based off some type of sclaes. Melodic music is nothing but leaps and steps up and down a scale. Webster says music is compositions made according to the rules of music. A composition is a piece of music and you learn the rules of music in Music Theory. You first learn intervals and scales in theory.

Knowing scales makes it easy to play in all keys without a transpose button. What will you do if you play in a church that doesn't have a keyboard? A up right or grand doesn't have a transpose key. If you playing with a musician and they say give me a I, ii, VI, V7, I9 in F and you don't know your keys/scales you out of a job. Everything in music is based off scales and intervals, even chord structure and when you have the basics you have everything. Water is basic but you can't live without it

Playing scales in major and minor keys (all not some) two octives with both hands (together not one at a time) with the correct fingering and even play some hanon excercises will make it easy for you to get around the key board in all keys and easier to play fast passages. It's also good to practice cadences as well. Also if you notice Tye Tribbet uses live wind instruments and the trumpet,saxophone, and trombone are in different keys. While the trombone is non transposible the other two aren't

So if you want to be able to incoporate trumpets and saxophones who have to be able to transpose there music and their isn't a transpose key for those instruments. Knowing your scales will be a must for that. If your musicians can read music it will make things easier for you by simply arranging their parts and sending it to them and they learn it at home and put it together at practice. Ear is great but don't limit yourself. What if a recording artist like your playing give you music to play?

Scales is the basics but it is the foundation of music. You can build the tallest sky scraper and the most beautiful manson, but if it doesn't have a strong foundation it can't stand. And young drummers learn to read music and learn rudiments which is the drumers foundation. Not just parididdles and flam accents, but drags, ruffs, swiss army triplets and even hybrid rudiments. At the end of the day the more you know the more successful you'll be. Don't be stuck in the same ole open your options

I would say to all young musicians go to a community college and take music lessons and theory classes cause learning scales and theory will give you new knowledge and open up you creativity and enhance your playing and to this Dadee. Now why would I talk to someone about Mozarts piano sonata in C being in Sonata Allegro form if they don't know basic major and minor scales. We can't have that debate if they don't know basic theory so how will they know Form? As I said before learn your scales

I will also explain some more rudiments soon as well. So just check out the two that is already there and tell me which ones you are interested in and I will also go over some technique building exercises and I'm actually thinking about going over reading music as well. One thing I learned as a teacher is that the kids who act out the most and have the most mouth is those who don't know the information. You are not a kid so be a man and go learn the information you don't know and stop acting like a kid and talking nonsense to hide the fact that you just don't know.
