I look forward to this movie more than anything I've anticipated since "The Empire Strikes Back," and I mean that sincerely. Saying that the CGI is inadequate is like complaining that you're expecting to have one of the greatest meals of your life, but the host didn't lay out enough napkins. Fuck a buncha napkins, I can't wait for this movie.
Do any of you remember how phony-looking Flynn looked, in the original "Tron," when he crossed over into the computer world? He was suddenly high exposure, pasty-white, etc.... And this was part of the movie's charm.
I kind of wonder if they should've gone that route with this one. Anyhow, the CGI in this new movie is outstanding, from what I can see. I kind of hope they'll tweak the real-world Flynn at the beginning, but even if they don't, they've done a helluva great job, here.
Also... at the beginning of the clip, where he's telling young Sam about his experiences in the original Tron universe, they forgot to raise the pitch of Flynn's voice to make him sound 20 years younger.
He should sound more like Flynn from the original Tron movie.
The problem with CGI Flynn is not the unfinished scenes we're all seeing in these trailers... the real problem is that all of the other programs living in Tron City are NOT computer generated characters.
Making people believe that young Flynn/Clu is computer generated and is meant to look slightly strange, is fair enough... but when all the other programs are played by real people with real faces, kind of destroys the effect.
They should have given ALL of them CGI heads/faces.
@radionactive Giving them all CGI faces wouldn't make sense. The only reason Clu is CGI is because he's supposed to look like Flynn when he was in his 30s, not just because he's a computer program. The only people who have who have a big problem are those who over exaggerate how unreal it looks. Look at 1:10 to 1:25 , it not 100% perfect, but it's still very good, especially 1:10. The CGI is not finished yet, but it will be by the time the movie comes out, it will be
I agree with what you're saying... but my point is that Disney need to make this guy look believable, otherwise there has to be some sort of reason why he looks slightly odd and unrealistic. It's one thing to try and make a perfectly realistic character blend in with real characters, but if the idea is to make it seem slightly computer generated... then having all the programs act similar would make the effect more believable.
Flynn created the entire Tron universe this time around.
@radionactive You say you agree with me but it kind of sounds likes you missed the point. The CGI wasn't perfect but it wasn't bad enough to take me out of the moment. Like I siad, I'm sure the CGI will improve by the time the movie comes out, but if it stays at the level of quality at 1:10 to 1:25, I really wouldn't have a problem with it, because unlike what some people say, I think it's pretty believeable. AS for the voice, how do you know they won't change by the time the movie comes out?
i like the cgi flynn,i wonder why everyone is like complaining about it,even in the last part of the trailer when he was like *come on!* so badass no joke
@teta809 Good CGI is not being as realistic as possible, it's how effective it is. This movie is going for a made up, computer looking world, and I believe it succeeds.
@BAOUZIZI CGI is computer generated imagery. It's special effects made with computer animation. Take Pixar for example, all their movies are CGI because they're computer animated.
@GOFLOinc i agree with you. good cgi doesnt make a movie realistic, and how to judge cgi is how accurate it is to what the artist intended for it to look like. tron is doing it just as well as avatar did.
