  • I started watching GH a year before this season/episode..Still one of the best episodes of all time..

  • Alan's efforts to 'off' Monica and Rick were over the top! But the roof collapse was epic. The irony is 20 years later while Alan was acting all kinda nuts, Rick was burying another girlfriend in his backyard.

  • I had always heard about this storyline, but have never scene it. This is SPECTACULAR. Character driven and suspenseful...

  • Question. Isn't this the accident that destroyed Alan's ability to be a surgeon? It's been a long time, but I'm thinking it is.

  • @1964nickel -- no. When the character first came to Port Charles in 1977, he had already suffered the accident that destroyed his surgical career.

  • do you have the follow up to this episode?

  • Memories...4th or 5th grade! This was the best!

  • ooh yuck! Jeff looks awful with that stache!

  • @imachildofthe80s8089 You can say that again!

  • Yeah I think I know why Lee had a grim look on his face...he noticed Alan kept glaring over at the clock and getting really jittery and unable to handle being at the part. So I think he knew and I think Alan noticed that lee was suspicious so he quickly switched gears and went from murderer to hero so really he didn't do it out of the goodness of his heart, he did it to avoid prison...and that would have been the end of the demented doc had monica and rick died.

  • This brings back great memories of when I was high school and I used to rush back home to see this suspenseful, riveting daytime drama. Thanks for posting this.

  • @lezfriend Did this story give you the chills? it sure did with me several stories back then did. I guess that's what made it pleasurable. I was scared so what did I do? I kept on watching!

  • I hate Rick Webber. He is an asshole!!!

  • These soap opera characters, particularly the principal ones, are a trip! It's amazing how they all seem to survive catastrophic accidents where everyone else in real life would either be dead or a vegetable the rest of their life.

And Monica & Alan's relationship must have been pretty strong if it could survive multiple murder attempts!

  • @Junkay2 right yeah they seem to have a crisis wipe it up and next week something else and never a scratch. when all these characters should have long been dead before their 9 lives

  • I think Brian ended up being a social worker; Claudia worked at the spa with Holly in '84. When did they leave the show?

  • Brian & Claudia left Port Charles (were written off the show) after Brian's father died (played by the legendary Sammy Davis Jr.) back in late 84 or early 1985.

  • @gun15509 No that's incorrect. They were written off in late 1986. They were guests at Frisco and Felicia's wedding taking place in June 1986 and I just saw a scene where Tiffany talked to Claudia at the spa. Simone ravelle played by Laura Carrington would be the next african american character. She would be given more to do not just a supporting charac.

  • OK imachidofthe80s8089, so I got the year (or when the actually left Port Charles) off by one or two years, lol!! I know for sure though that Sammy Davis Jr. did play as Brian's father on the show around that time. He was interviewed (I think it was Entertainment Tonight), talking about his stunt on both General Hospital and One Life To Live back in the mid 80's.

  • I know one thing...all that creaking...I'da been up outta there.

  • Alan Q was a jealous possessive man with socio- psycho-pathic tendencies......Monica was fine as shit!!!Daaaaaaaaamn

  • Leslie was VERY pretty...and STUBoy was FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE!!!

Yes Alan was quite the jealous type...but DAYUM SEXY so that we all overlooked that "little" isssue...

and ins pite of his rage I still wanted him and Monica to get it together and make it work because together they were just FIERCE.

  • Whoops...Don't Mess With Alan...He'll Drop A House ON You...!!

  • What I would love to see since it's been so long, is the rest of this story... or at least them being extricated and taken to the hospital. LOL We always see the roof caving in....or Alan being blown off the docks but never the aftermath. I wish somebody had that still on tape.

  • bring back the "real" Heather!! (while somehow keeping the "new" Heather)

bring back the Kerkorian malpractice suit!!

bring back Jeff Webber, Monica's first husband!!

    those were the days

  • I know if I were Monica and I heard all that noise up there in the attic...there in NO WAY IN HELL I'd have stayed up there in all that time.

  • @MsTexas73 Me either!

  • Do you have anything with Heather (Mary O'Brien) from when she accidentally took the LSD she had meant for Diana? This was before (and the reason that) she was sent to the sanitarium. (Mary O'Brien quit and was later replaced with the new Heather, Robin something).

Heather's storyline picked up at the sanitarium. She had a crazy roommate that walked around with a doll. Heather hid a knife in the doll. Heather escaped several times, including the night Diana was killed.

    Awesome back then!

  • Nope, no Heather. Good luck with your search!

  • I have episodes with her Mary O'Brien as Heather.

  • Oh, my gosh! Do you really? I didn't think there were home video recorders around back then! (Except for the ones in school that weighed 1500 pounds, were about as big as a 1050s Mainframe computer, and used tape that was 2" wide and on reels!

I adored Mary O'Brien as "Heather." It took a while for me to warm up to her replacement, Robin Matzen (the young actress from "Flipper").

Is it at all possible to upload some of O'Brien's work on your site? I didn't see any. Nice site, BTW!

  • Yes, I have a episode or two that features Mary O'Brien in it from 1978,If I could post it I would but I can't.

  • That's a bummer. 1978...I was 15 years old. My older sister watched GH back then. She lived next door. After school, I'd go over there to hang out. So SHE got me, her younger brother, hooked on GH. Also going on at the time was the Laura/Leslie/David Hamilton story, where Leslie took the rap for David's murder, covering for Laura. Intense!

  • Diana was murdered a year later from the time of this episode.

  • I adored Tracy and I'm so glad to see her again. I love how Alan was always trying to kill those two. I remember all of this so well! Especially Tracy's hair. OMG I loved those days. I loved Alan and Monica.

  • I was only 6 at the time...but I SOOO remember this...and yes..Tracy's hair!

  • Tracy's hair was awesome. Sort of an icon of the height of the show... for me anyway LOL

  • Yeah, that was creepy---Diana Taylor's murder! The "Roof" storyling was March 1980....Alan had turned crazy ever since December of 1979 when he read the depostion.

  • Remember when Rick and Monica would rendez-vous in some shack on the waterfront, and Alan found them there one day and he planned on blowing up the shack with Rick and Monica in it? When that didn't work out, the roof story began. And remember how they keep showing the same shot of the baby (Alan Jr.) every day? It was great back then!

  • Look! It's Jessie and Dan, Laura and Scotty, Audrey and Steve, the old Tracy! Ruby! Tommy and Jeremy! Brian and Claudia (back when GH had black people on it)! Lee and Gail Baldwin! Jeff and Leslie! Amy Vining! WOW!!

  • Who was those Black People? Were they main characters?

GH was so much better back then.

  • They were Brian and Claudia, students that went to school with Laura. Brian was a law student and good friends with Scottie. They all used to exercise together at the campus disco with Richard Simmons as their instructor!

  • I thought Brian was a doctor.

  • I thought Brain was a med student? Did't he end up a doctor?

  • I thought Brian worked as an intern under Lee Baldwin. Claudia, if I remember correctly, was a candy striper. She and Amy Vining had a lot of filler scenes together at the info desk with Jesse and Dan.

  • See how long it's been...I need to see more of Brain and Claudia.

  • @EmmttGlnn2002 Sort of like going to Heaven, I hope -- suddently we see all of our old friends again.

  • Holy cow! I remember this episode! It tooks MONTHS for that jack to let go of that supporting pole holding that roof up! Now when Diana was shot and Heather scrawled Annie's name in her own blood, that was awesome!

  • Why the hell are they standing there talking with the room creaking like that? It even sounds like something is about to fall in!

  • No joke. LOL!

  • This is great. Where can I find clips from the 70's?

  • I love tracy, i don't care what nobody saids she has good in her

  • do you have the scenes after this one? I never saw this storyline! I'm hooked and want to finish it! Thanks for posting thsi clip.

  • Thanks

  • I was just curious did anybody get injured when that roof fell in?

  • Alan, Rick and Monica were all in the hospital for a while, but not for anything serious.

  • This was classic episode indeed. You know what get's me is nobody got seriously hurt when that roof fell in.

  • I'd love it if you could post whatever you have!!!!

  • do you have the continuation of this episode?

  • Some of it.

  • There's a tiny bit of the scene missing when the door to the room is opened and all this wood and debris pours out. I remember the debris being as high as the door frame and it just kept coming. Yet clearly, there wasn't that much wood dropped from a skylight collapse. Silly, but fun.

  • It wasn't just the skylight that collapsed; it was the entire roof. Alan had tampered with the main support beam.

  • Watch it again. The roof/skylight clearly collapses on the threesome and is maybe 4 ft tall. Not exactly piled up against the door and flowing out like a waterfall.

  • Now that is how you do a soap opera!

  • Thanks MQ, my memory not that bad (lol!) I wish I could see clips of the whole Heather, Jeff, Diana storyline. I cleary have memories of Heather using the finger of Diana's dead body to write someone's name in blood.

  • She wrote Anne's name in blood.

  • The very day that Heather supposedly killed Diana is the day I started watching GH! I remember Diana's body being on that damn floor for more than a week of shows! Some town celebration was going on too if I recall. I was about 13 or so back then. These clips bring back a lot of memories!

  • Wasn't it a Parade? I remember the nurses and doctors were marching in it and people were wondering "Where was Diana" who was late...well we know what happened *poor Diana*.

  • Were Alan & Monica getting the attic remodelled? I know Alan compromised the supporting beams. GH fans, please comment. I still remember the creaky sounds the 'unstable' attic made foreshadowing the accident just waiting to happen.

  • Yes, the attic was being remodeled into a nursey/playroom for the baby.

  • There was so much drama and suspense! They don't do it like this any more.

  • Classic GH moment. Nothing today compares to the late 70s/early 80s.

  • So True.

  • Every GH fan should see this. Classic
