This is a nice little redo. I don't care how bix sounded, or that he even play it. I admire anyone who recreates some of those great old sounds. I mean really, who cares. Swingyoucats, lighen up man!
We brlieve in the same things. I wasn't putting this version down for changing a sacred note of the original -- rather I was commending Vince and the boys for NOT copying the original vocal, one of the great cringe-inducing interludes on record. Listen to Wes Vaughan sometime and you'll hear what I mean. I prefer original reinventions to repertory copying. Cheers, Michael Steinman
Depends! If you expect a contemporary jazz group to adhere to the Victor original, perhaps. But imitation is suicide, as Emerson wrote: consider the Condon BIXIELAND version. Is that a desecration, or is it good music?
Wow! What an authentic sounding band!! I love it!!
