  • National standards is fairly easy to understand. I have a neice and nephew at a decile 1 school and a neice and nephew at a decile 10 school, all 4 of them are well above the national standard in every area. Seems the people that whinge about it are the ones who have found out their children aren't where they thought they were. Its a good idea, perhaps just needs some tweeking to make it a great idea.

  • @McPhattie18 thats all well and good on your nieces and nephews for achieving well, but even when i was young i remember me and my mates having completely different learning patterns and skills. some are artistic, some are slow learners etc. When these kids should be encouraged to find their own potential and abilities, the current NS forces these children into govt-defined moulds. i'm in support of some form of national standard, but not one that defines every kiwi kid with 3 pathetic criteria.

  • "The New Zealand curriculum is world-class."

    I'm sorry, what? You're joking.

  • And now it seems that Anne Tolley is going to put a number of schools into statutory management..not because they have broken any rules...but because they have the "audacity" to make it known that while they are complying with the rules they are doing so under duress. scoop.co.nz/stories/PO1109/S00243/unacceptable-threats-made-to-schools-over-national-standards.htm

  • This government is becoming more and more worrying. First they took threw out the duly elected council that was ECAN and gave management to a government stoolie. Then they passed laws which gave Gerry Brownlee unprecedented and virtually unlimited powers in Christchurch. Just recently we've seen Murray McCully usurp the role of the elected representative of the people of Auckland.

  • Hah! "you can't make a rainbow with just three colours" .... pretty sure you can

  • @Rheyik

And how do you make indigo?

  • @KevinPhilipsBong1

Indigo is a blue purple, a tertiary colour (and violet is a red purple).

But i do agree with what they are saying, don't worry

  • Thank you Principals for your principles! You have voiced the concerns of many informed teachers and parents very clearly. I hope our policy makers have watched and understood our concerns.

  • Get rid of National Standards, my child is dyslexic but according to National Standards that makes him below par, he is by no means below par but on paper that is how he is now graded....

  • @bzylizzy Are you saying he is marked down because of simply being dyslexic or that he is being marked down because of his result are lower due to dyslexia?
