  • I think a lot of people know what you feel Annie, you're just wonderfully able to sing it, thank you!

  • I was there!

  • She is such a wonderful artist. I hope one day her dream of helping those that need it comes true.

  • Thanks God for sending us a beautiful angel named Annie Lennox.

  • A chaque fois que j'écoute cette chanson, je revis ce concert formidable, mes poils se hérissent... Annie Lennox a une voix formidable, ses émotions sont magiques et si profondes.

  • There is some perfect part of Annie's spirit that comes out when she sings.

  • i would be really mad if someone copied this girl. anyway....i miss artists like this one.

  • Because!

  • This performance kinda puts into perspective how awful the so-called 'popstars' that mime their way through a song are!!

  • some people are speaking BIG BS, i had to report spam on a comment. How can anybody say "africans are a burden as the world is round" when our wealth is build on their misery & poverty. Shame on you!!!!!!

  • quite simply a ICON :)

and am not badmouthin miss winehouse, but annie's what every decent human should aspire too.

oh ur voice annie, even the "new" kids cant compare xx

  • R.I.P. all children that died because off poverty..

we live in a fucked up world that isn't righteous

  • Her voice contains so much emotion, so much power... When you're watching her singing, you can feel what's inside of her. Absolutely amazing.

  • just brilliant!

  • Jedesmal wenn ich diese Version von "Why" sehe bin ich zu tiefst gerührt. Gänsehautfeeling pur.

  • She was truely captivating that large crowd to have obtained those 5 seconds of silence. Truely breathtaking! powerful! The most powerful words are the thoughts that are not shared.

  • best performance of the day by a million miles

  • I was watching it live on TV and I wept. Surprisingly, the song still touches me. I remember Brat Pitt's introduction where he called her "the Great Annie Lennox". How apt.

  • Annie, We love you!!!!!!! You are much more than ever I could expect! You are a special Human Being!

  • MAKE ME CRY!!

    :_(

  • 10,000. 20,000. Maybe more? How many people were there on that day? The peak of that song and then the 5 seconds of silence were people are just in awe and breathless. Amazing. If mankind remembered that we shape this world not the elected leaders or tyrants then a true moment could begin to bring a better quality of life to people who suffer every second of every day.

  • why do we vote useless pricks into government

  • Annie you were the best at live 8 !!

  • Make me cry. Does something changes after the Live 8 in 2005? I don't think so may iam wrong well i Hope so

  • Why, indeed...

  • Annie Lennox! So, so very beautiful, inside and out! siccarii

  • So, so very beautiful, inside and out! siccarii

  • i love this and i love her. ever since i can remember I have always been listening to her.

  • Simply... a great woman!

  • I was privileged enough be there. This performance will always resonate very deeply with me. The song is haunting on its own, but the background video showing the terrible suffering caused by HIV and AIDS amplified the pathos in the song. Thank you Annie. Your voice and political activism are an inspiration to us all. Compassionate, talented, beautiful.

  • 28 people wouldn't know what a song about feeling or compassion was even if it hit them in the face

  • passion: a simple word. Maybe she is not only taking about Africa or AID's. She sings with passion - but much of the song seems to be geared to humanity itself. YOU HAVE TO FEEL PASSION TO SING ABOUT IT IN THIS WAY..

    PEACE777

  • Graças a DEUS q uma Aniie Lenox vala mais q mil spankyelmojr.

  • Makes me wanna cry everytime I'm listening to it.

  • What an amazing performance. One of the best female pop vocalists ever. hands down.

  • I dont know what is wrong with people, who cares if what we say is blooming latin or not . The people you see have less than nothing and you can get into a poltical dabate but the facts are they have nothing. The people that rule them are sitting on all the money, i hope we all will be ok and thoughts to everyone in japan.

  • Was this an AIDS thing?

Aren't they all dead by now?

  • @Bra23we12 I'm amazed your brain was working from enough power to post your comment. Your ignorance precedes you and I feel sorry for you as you obviously don't have the faintest idea what may be in store for you during your life. I wish you a trouble free life but Karma may have other plans.........

  • @MrSnooks72

    Nice put-down.

I should explain the comment though.

It was meant to highlight the lack of interest in the issue as the general awareness of it's tragedy declines. People seem able to hold only 1 or 2 important issues in mind at any one time. As AIDS slips from the social conscience, supplanted by newer cares, it's hard not to wonder if time and the death of those involved provides the "distance" required by society today.

Oh....Karma got me in the end. But I'm not dead yet.

    What?

  • @spankyelmojr it is cœptis not coeptus.

If you are going to quote latin at least do it right. Don't worry, you get my pity for free...

  • @TheKrinni

Good Sir...Thank You for spell checking my comment. Your service...and dedication to the Greater Good is inspiring. You are "number 1"...and I salute you accordingly...LOL.

Yes...in the Civilized World...the letters "i" and "u" are right next to each other, on a keyboard. But you are correct...it is spelled with an "i". I am a Great Man...and I acknowledge my errors. I shall hold myself accountable. With that said...Why do u refuse to hold africans accountable?

  • @spankyelmojr These are people who are suffering. There's a lot of reasons, but the main one being that humans are arsehles. You're also an arsehole.

Everyone doing their part is what makes the world a better place.

I fucking love this song and Annie Lennox is an angel.

    Peace.

  • @maxchina09

Why do you refuse to hold africans accountable??? You say that "everyone is doing their part...to make the world better"???? I would have to beg to differ. The CIVILIZED WORLD continues to fight this hideous disease...we continue to try and contain this epidemic. If africans were to cause another epidemic...would you honor them even more...with more songs and pity???

Africans continue to be a never ending burden...on a Global Scale.

    SirSpankyElmoJr (aka KingOfTheIlluminati)

  • @spankyelmojr - I said: 'Everyone doing their part is what makes the world a better place' If you need to miss quote people to win arguments you've already lost.

You're the same as every other racist person, you live in a fantasy world whilst the rest of us have to deal with real issues.

    Wake up kid.

  • I just heard the NEW Unreleased Annie Lennox Song...It's pretty decent. I dont remember the name...But I do remember some of the lyrics.....

Something about a hard luck story...some guy who was born and raised in an eastern city. And I guess one day..some guys in the neigborhood..who were up to no good..started making trouble. The Guy got his ass kicked...and his Aunt Jemimah Mamma got scared...and sent his black azz to live with his Uncle Tom...infesting the fine city of Bel-Air...LMFAO

  • @spankyelmojr Racism is a good indicator of mental ability. The 'tribalisitic' tendencies of humans are realised through racism - and this is a 'primal instinct' to find difference in order to compartmentalise ones surroundings.

The less mentally able use simple phenotypic (visual indicators) method to promote difference and in order to raise the value of their own 'stock'. Usually as a result of having no 'tangible' worth of their own.

But in order for the racists to understand - YOU ARE SCUM

  • @chrisc990

I would I agree with you...if it were, as you stated...just a matter "of visual indicactors." But...unfortunately...it goes way beyond "visual indicators." Africans continue to be a Never Ending Burden, on a Global Scale. Disease.Famine.Welfare.Crime...etc. "Visual indicators" are the least of their worries.

And believe me...Africans are every bit as racially motivated...as you accuse me of being. Perhaps even more so.

Why do u refuse to hold Africans accountable?

  • @spankyelmojr you continue to illustrate my point - you cannot see past phenotypic or geographical differences (a ridiculously simple and illogical way to look at this) or fail to look deeper into the reasons for Africa being a 'poor' continent.

You obviously think that you are in some way more beneficial to the human race than someone who was born in another part of the world - I think the opposite - people like you hold us back and drag us into conflict.

  • @chrisc990

For whatever the reasons...right or wrong...good or bad...People of African descent Continue to be a Never Ending Burden, on a Global Scale. Exactly what are these "reasons" you refer to, regarding africans being so poor?

Yes, I believe that MY people have advanced the human race. Technology.Medicine.Academia.Infrastructure.Science...etc. Africans have contributed Nothing to the Greater Good...and yet they are the first to complain. Why do you refuse to hold africans accountable?

  • I would be proud, if I was on such honorable event. I wish there will be more like this - not in the meaning that there will be people who will need help, but with meaning of the idea and of the spirit - and that I will watch it live on one of the stages. I would definitely wait for it for next 15 years

  • The date is wrong; it was 2nd July 2005

18 MILLION people die every year from the effects of extreme poverty.

  • Everything is perfect (title, song, Annie´s voice, performance) - except one - The reason she had to sing it.

  • thx anni

  • ohh god, how cool can this lady be? she is amazing, just incredible:)

  • lets not turn this wonderfull performance into a debate.

aint she great here people off the world :)

one off if not the best off her generation :)

  • Che donna affascinante...!!!

  • excelent

  • bloody good voice

  • @spankyelmojr I've read through your comments and the overall impression i get besides anger at what you're saying is sadness, you understand the reasons why Africa is in such a mess, slavery, colonialism, neo colonialism and the increasing ravages of Climate Change, not to mention HIV/AIDS, Malaria and TB yet you still maintain that "Africa is the White Man's Burden", you seem impervious to any sense of justice or compassion and your "enlightenment" will ensure the destruction of us all

  • @Steveo2857

Africans are indeed a burden. And...Yes...I realize that africans have been "exploited." Do you honestly believe that their existence would be any less dire...had they not been "exploited"??? Surely you are not suggesting that africans would have thrived...if left on their own. LMFAO. In a tragically ironic way...slavery/apartheid is the best thing to ever happen to africans. If it werent for slavery...africans would never have been exposed to the Civilized World.

  • @spankyelmojr you are a cock..have some humanity, these are real people you are referring of, not Africans...people.

  • @badbubbagump

I didn't realize that being called an "african"...is considered insulting. But I guess the more I think about it...I actually agree with you. LMFAO. Most people would take pride in their origins. But I guess africans are the exception.

You say that africans are "real people"??? Well...if that is indeed the case...then they should start acting like Civilized Humans...and not like animals. Why do u refuse to hold them accountable??? Disease.Crime.Welfare.Famine. etc.

  • i just wont 2 cry she is so hart 2 mind she is fab

  • moves my soul every time I hear it ...........

  • I remember when I watched this on TV live... I cried a lot with all those videos on the big screen... that's why I don't like to watch it that much... but today I was in need of it... Annie is a fantastic woman!

  • @Spankyelmojr, the western societies have destroyed their countries through sponsorship of war, the installation of dictators who favor exports to the west, religious organisations that have treated these people as an underclass, enslavement, economic destruction, Apartheid and that is but the tip of what we have done and continue to do to these people. Ignorance is perpetuation.

  • @finitekosmos

Yes...I realize that africans have been "exploited." That is what happens to the weak...that is what happens when you cannot sustain/provide for yourself. With that said...DO YOU HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT THEIR EXISTENCE WOULD BE ANY LESS DIRE...had they not been "exploited"??? And the ironic thing is...is that slavery/apartheid...is the best thing to ever happen to africans. Without slavery/apartheid...africans would never have been exposed to the Civilized World.

  • wow what a song so power full

  • @spankyelmojr yes your right don't blames centuries of slavery, colonialism and exploitation by the western countries which became obscenely wealthy and powerful at the expense of these poor people.

  • @edthewise

If africans had never been "exploited"...Do you HONESTLY think their existence would be any less dire??? You could make a strong argument...that slavery...is the best thing to ever happen to africans. Without slavery...most africans, would be in africa...with their spear chucking brothas and sistas. Without slavery...africans would not have been exposed to the Civilized World.

  • @spankyelmojr Well that's a very empirical and western revisionist manner of looking at history. The Irish rail workers were also heavily exploited during the Industrial Revolution to the point of being discriminated and ending up in mostly unmarked massed graves in the UK and America. Would you make the same case for them?

  • @edthewise

LOL...Yes, I realize that the Irish were treated like McSlaves. I don't have much of an opinion...either way...in regards to the Irish. But I think it's safe to say...that they are indeed the McDoormats of Europe...LMFAO. But AT LEAST...they are somewhat Civilized. AT LEAST...they have some small degree of Self Worth. AT LEAST...they are not a filthy burden, on A Global Scale. Crime.Disease.Welfare.Poverty.Famine...Why do you Refuse to Hold Africans accountable?

  • @spankyelmojr To say the Africans have contributed nothing is ignorant, we originate from their all of us, almost 5000 yrs ago the mighty empire of Egypt the first monarchy, with their staggering feats of engineering, calendar, contributions in mathematics, such as geometry and algebra, and it seems likely that they understood and perhaps invented the use of zero.

  • @arniemazmax

Yes...I hear that "argument" often. About how africans were "here first"...or whatever. SO WHAT?!? Big Deal. If I was an african...I would hesitate to use the "here first" argument. It has been shown that humans evolved from monkeys/apes...so, if africans were "here first"...then they are closer to the monkey race..LOL. The cassette player was "here first"..before the iPod...which would u rather listen to? The World has EVOLVED for the better..it is a pity that africans have not.

  • @spankyelmojr Africans were certainly involved in trans-oceanic travel long before Europeans and there is some evidence to suggest that Africans crossed the Atlantic and reached the American continent, perhaps even north America, as early as 500 BC.When Europeans first sailed to Africa in the 15th century, African navigators shared their knowledge of trans-oceanic travel.

  • @spankyelmojr The less you know the more you know it I think this is very apt in your case.

  • amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • apart fae billy connoly once they make it they go towards those english scum

  • do you know what I feel?

  • wow!! this makes me feel so sad . theses pictures show poor people. They have nothing. i cry all the time when i hear this song. its so emotional:(.. . Well Annie, what can i say, shes a icon. i love her work and what she does for those people who have nothing. well done annie.

    best wishes from germany

  • this performance gives me the creeps..make my eyes wet..yea..

  • Comment removed

  • A true artist who sounds better live than recorded. Shame on you spankyelmojr for your uncultured comment......perhaps you should pickup a history book :0)

  • @savingsaccounts2009

LMFAO...which "history book" would you suggest??? Do you believe everything you read...in a history book...story book...bible book...comic book??? LMFAO. If you do...then you are a fool.

And even if I did read your trivial "history book"...what could it possibly say...to change the fact that Africans Contine to be a Never Ending Burden, on A Global Scale. Be Honetst...If it weren't for slavery...do u honestly think their existence would be any less dire?

  • @spankyelmojr Europeans arn't the only ppl who can operate and develop an economy without interference from the outside. If you are a westerner remember that you (like me) have in some way benefited from the theft of resources (not our direct fault) from Africa in some way. This is not a guilt trip, but for you to assume that they are intrinsically doomed cos of what they are is, well narrow and i would say racist.

  • @rkr3001

Surely...you are not suggesting...that Africans would have thrived...if left on their own...LMFAO. For whatever the reasons...right or wrong...good or bad...Africans are LIGHT YEARS behind the Rest of the Civilized World. And despite all of their so-called "hardships"...they should be thankful that the Civilized World has shown them pity. Kinda like this video.

Help them...if u must...But DO NOT honor them with songs and pity, they are pitiful enuff, as it is.

  • @spankyelmojr your comments are cynical and racist. You make it sound like as if its a kids own fault being born with aids and dying of hunger. Also you make it sound like as if Africa was a huge burden to the world. It's not about being pitiful it's about creating an awareness of the African tragedy. When the holocaust in the WW2 took place, ppl said:We didnt know anything about it. Nowadays we know 1000s of kids are dying daily of hunger. And yet we are not doing enough to stop that happening.

  • @powwowgmxde

Yes...I actually agree with u...it is not the child's fault. It is the parent's fault. I honestly believe, the vast majority of africans...are completely oblivious to the concept of NOT having childeren...if the parents have AIDS. I honestly believe the majority of africans cannot comprehend this concept. I honestly believe they don't understand the concept of NOT having a child...if u cannot provide for the child. I am not being "cynical" or "racist"...I speak the TRUTH.

  • @spankyelmojr

The sad thing is that this is about a ppl with an affliction. Yet you turn it into a superiority contest.

Would you be so bold when you are afflicted, would you trade in superiority, or would you trade in a different currency?

This is not really the forum for ur insecurities and prejudice. I hope the causes for this in ur life resolve them selves, be it family or self made.

    (yes that is inflammatory)

  • @rkr

It has nothing to do with "superiority"..its about ACCOUNTABILITY. Why do u refuse to hold africans accountable? Compassion..without Accountability..will only make things more dire. I agree..the Civilized World must shoulder this filthy burden. Without our generousity..africans will be even MORE of a burden, than they already are. Help them..if u must..But DO NOT honor them with songs and pity. They are Pitiful enough, as it is. I see the world for what it really is. It is a pity u cannot

  • @spankyelmojr @spankyelmojr You forget that they may have developed an economy independently with out interference.

  • @spankyelmojr that's kinda rude... most of the country has no control of these kind of things that happen to them. The people in charge are more of a burden. they are clearly uneducated. and thensaying that ALL African descent.. that's just racist..

  • @JBW92dancer

Yes..I agree..Africans have no control, of what happens to them. In other words..Africans must rely on the charity/pity of the Rest of the Civilized World..to survive. They are indeed a burden. For whatever the reasons..right or wrong..good or bad..Africans are Light Years behind the Rest of the Civilized World. Look around the World..friend of foe..People are striving to be better. The World is evolving.Unfortunately, Africans have not

    SirSpankyElmoJr(aka king of the illuminati)

    SirSpankyElmoJr(aka king of the illuminati)

  • @spankyelmojr : Just rot in hell. The world doesn't need you.

  • @powwowgmxde

You want me to "rot in hell"??? LMFAO. You truly are...a simple minded simpleton. The concept of heaven and hell...is man made. It's like telling a child to behave...or be punished. Religion...is for the weak.

Why do you refuse to hold africans accountable? It is like honoring the homeless...for being homeless. What motivation does the homeless man have to better himself? By honoring africans with song and pity...like this video...you are treating them like monkeys, at the zoo.

  • @spankyelmojr this discussion is getting a bit tiresome and its lost its edge. "Rot in hell" is a saying which means as much as "fuck off". The saying has lost its connection to religion over the years. Its just a colloquial thing to say to someone you'd consider a racist. The homeless/monkey analogy is pretty far fetched. Maybe we should just read more on the subject and then we all could probably make more qualified statements. Anyway moving on... What does king of the illuminati mean btw?

  • Comment removed

  • @spankyelmojr don't you think it's a bit pathetic pressing your own thumbs up button? U seem pretty desperate for attention. Maybe you should go to a shrink...

  • @powwowgmxde

Yes...I press my own "thumbs up." And Yes...I realize that my comments are not well received...Such is the price of being ENLIGHTENED. I don't seek "desperate attention"...I only wish to start a discussion. And by pressing "thumbs up"...it makes my comments more visible. I always seek the TRUTH. No matter how harsh it may be. I encourage to embrace the TRUTH...it can be liberating. Be brutally honest about yourself...and be brutally honest about others...it will serve u well.

  • @spankyelmojr Yeah, right. All things said,to alleviate this African "burden" we should let Africa be alone, leave it to her own devices so to say,and give the africans a chance to make up their own lives.I also don't believe in pity songs and especially not in pity aid for I have seen with my own eyes what happens to those pity dollars which pour into Africa- none of them go to those who really need them.As to God,science itself has made a case for God's existence, you'll see it if you study it.

  • @VirtualDude67

Good Sir...I am having great difficulty in translating your comments to ENGLISH. LMFAO. At your earliest possible convenience...could you please translate your comment...LMFAO.

  • @spankyelmojr Er.. are you sure that your comment was meant to me? I mean are you sure that you can not for the life of you understand what I was saying in my previous comment..? If so, I find it very strange- what is your first language then if I may ask?

  • @VirtualDude67

It is quite clear..that you are an educated simpleton. Good Sir..let me repeat myself...IAM HAVING GREAT DIFFICULTY IN TRANSLATING YOUR DIRTY FILTHY MEXICAN AFRICAN McJIBBERISH COMMENT.LMFAO. At your earliest possible convenience could you please translater your comment to English. Take a deep breath..gather your thoughts..and express them in an orderly coherent manner. I realize it is difficult for u...but I am trying to help u. LOL.

    SpankyElmoJr

    aka King of the Illuminati

  • @spankyelmojr Motherfucking son of a bitch. Did you translate that well enough??

Well if you did then you should have no problem of understanding my previous comments. So get on with it and do realise that everybody English speaking individual on the face of the Earth is not necessarily a some stupid fucking arrogant & ignorant fucking redneck fucker like you are, but rather a dignified English language connoisseur. (if you hillbilly even know what that means.) LOL.!!!

  • @VirtualDude67

LOL...I shall take the high road. I refuse to lower myself...to your level. I hold myself to a higher standard. LMFAO.

Good Sir...people of african descent...are a NEVER ENDING BURDEN...on a Global Scale. Why do you refuse to hold them accountable??? Are they so inferior...inferior to the point they are held to a much lower standard??? Help them...if u must...But DO NOT honor them with songs and pity, they are pitiful enough as it is.

  • @spankyelmojr Well you're the one who started to call me names, and I responded accordingly you start to retreat and say "I'll take the high road" and crap like that. If you carefully read my previous comment(s) you'll realise that I also don't believe in pitying Africa and/or africans, I also clearly stated that the western donors must stop pouring money into Africa for that policy does no good, africans must learn to stand on their own feet.Btw,honor is spelt honour,in proper English grammar.

  • @VirtualDude67

I now see that you were actually in agreement with me, in regards to africans being a burden. I apologize. I am great man...and I always seek the truth. LOL.

Yes...I agree...africans should be left to sink or swim...on their own accord. And being treated as an "equal"...also means being held accountable. But, unfortunately, it is quite clear that africans are held to a lower standard. There is nothing noble in their filthy struggle...and they should be held accountable.

  • @spankyelmojr Yes Sir, I do agree with you wrt. Africa and africans. So let's bury our hatches shall we?

I wish you a good day.

  • @VirtualDude67

You are a gentleman...as am I. LOL. But, please, let me have the last word. I am glad that I have Enlightened You. And I encourage you to continue to view me as a Role Model. Be brutally honest about yourself...and be brutally honest about others. It will serve you well.

    Good Day to You Sir,

SpankyElmoJr (aka King of the Illuminati)

  • @spankyelmojr Yes, but the Europeans have historically treated Afica badly, i.e. slave trade, apartheid and have ruthlessly exploited the African continent of their resources (thanks to WTO). Also Europeans have robbed Africans their own identity, by destroying their own original culture. It's a tragedy that we are unable to stop thousands of childen dying every day. To blame Africans alone is cynical and outright wrong. The dictors of the countries are to blame. Lack of education, bad conditions

  • @powwowgmxde

LOL. These "african resources" u mentioned...How would African's process these resources? How would they ship them? Tie it to a spear...and chuck it across the ocean? LMFAO. If it werent for the US/China/Europe...Africans would have no means of even realizing what a natural resource is. Slavery/Apartheid...u could make a strong argument...that african's are much better off...because of slavery and apartheid. If africans had been left on their own...they would be MUCH worse off.

  • one of the few songs Ive went weepy at
