@oilers000 Carolina is far from a shitty hockey market. It gets over 17,000 fans per game. And expansion Nashville gets over 16,600 per game. Southern markets work but its a matter of staying their and building the sport. Dallas and Tampa are even strong markets as well. Even Florida has seen attendence go up the last 4 season to almost 16,000 a game. In the AHL the best 4 of the 6 Southern markets are in the top 10 in Attendence in 10-11 season. Hockey works in the south!!!
@TheAllanChronicles like one game in the playoffs when the Hurricanes played the Bruins. Threw my Whaler jersey on the ice and wished the death upon Karmanos.
Those Hartford Whalers. I never grew up watching them play, but boy were they a good team. My favourite color is green & when I first heard of this team, they had an emblem that would later become part of the Vancouver Canucks: the Whale. Every WHA team that morphed into NHL has disappeared except for the Oilers. Seriously, if Gretzky played alongside Ron Francis or Geoff Sanderson or something, this team probably could've won 1 Stanley Cup. I don't like the Edmonton Oilers at all. They've won
@ItsMelY would be nice so betman bring back the Whalers to Hartford, the Nordiques to Quebec city and the Metropolitans to Seattle thats where Hockey should be placed and not in Florida or in arizona
This was one of the worst days ever. I stopped playing hockey shortly after they left. I didn't want to be a hockey player, I wanted to be a Hartford Whaler.
It's really sad watching this for me too. I'm a Flyers fan, but a hockey fan more importantly. The Hartford Whalers were the first team that I ever saw the Flyers play live at the old Spectrum. Even though they lost to the Whalers it was a memorable experience for me as a kid because it drew me into the sport when I had no interest in sports back then. Make a long story short it's really sad to not have this team around anymore and I really hope they as well as Winnipeg, and Quebec return.
Get rid of Phoenix and nashville and bring back the whale and nordiques!

@shewbie3 Glen Wesley was only Whalers player on Cup-winning team in 2006. He played for Carolina until his retirement in 2008.
