  • I like the way she sings this, shame she didn't have the bottle to sing it all though. But then I was surprised to see her singing NIN anyway and in front of an audience of kiddies on the X Factor, probably why "I wear this crown of Shit" was removed. Wonder what Trent Reznor makes of this cover.

  • I'm a huge NIN fan and I like this version. Too many music snobs around these days thinking their opinions are more relevant than others. Pretentious twats

  • way to go and reuine a awsome song......well done.

  • I love how she has taken a song that is about the misery and self loathing of drug addiction and turned it onto a cheesy pop song.

  • I notice she has skipped half the second verse. The one that begins "I wear this crown of shit/upon my liar's chair" considering the song only has two verses that's 25% of the track. Sorry if that's a bit "hard" for you douches hehe, but FFS, if you are going to cover it, at least sing the song? Kermit killed this track better.

  • Lame. Putting a massive crescendo on this track so she can showcase her vocal range misses the point of the lyrics completely. If you are going to remix a track, put a new spin on it or don't bother.

  • I am a big fan of NIN & have been for years, I like Leona's version as well. I think Trent Reznor would be proud. Stop being a hardcore douche bag.

  • @VinceVolta

I have no factual evidence to base this on- but i would bet my house that if he still had the rights to that song he would have never given her permission to cover this. Just trust me on that.

She has a great voice and all, but this isn't about how it 'sounds'. Its the principle that it exists. If you were ever to make something on any medium that expressed such strong emotions, and have someone use it just to make them selves money without your permission, you would feel the same.

  • @someghosts I understand, but I highly doubt a big recording artist like Leona would be dumb enough to record another persons song without permission or rights. She will never sing the song like Trent Reznor because one, she's a woman & two, they have 2 different styles of music. Being so up tight about other music that isn't alternative, rock or metal puts you in a very limited box that makes you not be able to enjoy other genres of music.

  • @VinceVolta I see your point, but what I was saying was Trent no longer has the rights to his song since his label sold it. I would make the same argument if it was someones painting or poem or book etc.

  • Wow there are no ratings for this video, imagine that. Almost any time ratings are disabled it is because the artist or record company are embarrassed at the rating. This is the worst cover of a song ever.

  • I like this one more the original.

  • Why cant i dislike it? Crafty Bastard.

  • This song is reserved only for those who are WORTHY of singing it! Leona has no business singing it.

  • Not trying to be negative, but this is actually 100 times better than I expected it to be

  • She is so pretty! The color of her eyes! The color of her hair. Her voice is amazing I love you Leona

  • I've listened to Nine Inch Nails' original and Johnny Cash's cover hundreds of times, I totally appreciate Leona's version too.

  • Dislike... So far I've liked only the covers by Johnny Cash and Hundreth. Kermit is still somewhat ok :)

  • I like this version ¬¬

  • good job x

  • She's a good singer. she just... took on to big of a song to cover and didnt do it well enough.

  • shite

  • pure shit fuck horrible shit , shit

  • what the fuck is wrong with this bitch. she has no business singing this song. fuck her

  • leona is a cunt

  • I like all versions of this song, I feel that each artist; Trent, Jhonny and Leona have all made the song personal to themselves, so although the song is the same, it sounds very different because the emotion and meaning behind the lryics is different to each artist that has sung it.

  • Ok, first of all, I'm major NIN fan, and I actually like the fact that she covered this.It doesn't matter if it's good or bad, the point is, this shows that Trent Reznor has a major influence on many people in the music business today and that this song has touched many people, including her.The only thing that bothered me was the '' new song '' part in the title... it should have been pointed out that it's a cover, otherwise it's kinda disrespectfull to the artist that originally wrote the song

  • Comment removed

  • I admit that she is not bad at singing this. She has a beautiful voice and a lot of talent. But agree that this is not her song. It's Trent and Johnny's. I say it's Johnnys, as well, because Trent said himself "This isn't my song anymore" when he listened to Johnny Cash's version. As beautiful sounding as Leona Lewis's version is, that's just it. It sounds more like a Broadway rendition of the song, and that's not how the song was meant to be performed. But, it's still very pretty to listen to.

  • @DazzlingDisguise everybody knows this is not her song.

  • Holy shit, she has raped a masterpeice, I wonder what Trent thinks of this?

  • Old song 2011 ...still awesome doh

  • I listened to JC's "Hurt" after listening to Leona's cover and I will admit that Leona's cover is more interesting and inspiring. She sung this beautifully. A lot of the negative comments created by bitter listeners need to understand that we live in a free world where you have the absolute right to express your inspiration. Leona didn't "destroy" this song because the meaning still lives. Music is forever :)

  • @AnarchieJones its a nin song you durp

  • Kinda upbeat for such a depressing song.

  • Wait, "new song 2011"? ಠ_ಠ

  • i like this song

  • She did a great job... of taking all emotion out of an incredible song. She turned a song that was about heroin abuse into a generic pop piece of crap... well done

  • It is significant because Cash released his cover of "Hurt"- originally recorded by Nine Inch Nails- about a year before he passed away. Watch Cash's cover now and get the goosebumps from the pain in this legend's voice.

  • u guys r losers go bitching about how she ruins this song somewhere else no one gives a shit about ur complaints

  • one does not simply cover a johnny cash masterpiece. FUCK YOU LEONA LEWIS!

  • @iOozeEPIC cash covered it also, original by nine inch nail i think

  • @iOozeEPIC one does not simply...have just one sour gummy worm

  • @zerzerzero true story brother :)

  • I wasn't expecting to like it, but was pleasantly suprised. Not bad.

  • people saying she can't sing, are you deaf? go youtube her singing live, then try and say that.

i'm not even a huge fan, but it's blatantly obvious she's amazing. just hush hush people.

  • It's not about her voice and how much emotions she put into this song!

The fact is she destroyed a song that has so much meaning, the song that is written by a person who suffered greatly. You don't understand, you never listened to NIN & similar artists in the first place.

Why didn't she wrote something of her own and let this song in peace, why oh why?

  • @DeyaGrey Just curious...didn't she have to get permission from NIN to cover this song? I don't really know how these things work.

  • @DeyaGrey Im having you removed from this website

  • Comment removed

  • sorry guys but this song is not for Leona

  • I thought this was going to be a single? What happened?

  • @jupiterflunk92 She can sing -- there's no doubt about that ... but this song just isn't for her. Plus she probably woulda been egged by the J. Cash community if this was a single.

  • love her cause she always sings live and it sounds the same. amazing singer and i love hearing her

  • i love johnny cash and i love this song sung by both of them.. and im a15 year old kid :)

  • Leona is a great singer but she can't sing this like Johnny Cash. This song is about someone's who's lived and lost, someone who's had a life full of suffering and she can never sing this with the pain and feeling that Johnny Cash did...

Still a hundred times better than anything Lady Gaga comes out with...

  • you dont need to leave bad comments here... dont like it .... leave it ... no one asks u to listen

  • Yaaaay, another awesome classic ruined by the cliché X-Factor Key Change during the end section ¬.¬

Stop unintentionally fooling kids into thinking that this is your song; Listen to Johnny Cash's or Nine Inch Nails' version for the originals.

  • @RaggybonesBanger Your post had me laughing my ass off. Quote "listen to Johnny cash or NiN versions for the orginals... You do know only one thing can be an orginal right? Just because someone does a cover you don't like doesn't mean they trying to say they wrote it.. thats you saying it. Like what you like, and dislike what you don't, thats cool, but don't make up stuff for the sake of it.

  • @huntsman35 Touché my friend, let me re-word that; Listen to NiN's version for the original, and Johnny Cash's for an emotional cover which is at least on par with the original. Leona's version adds nothing to the original save for a 'pretty' cheesy key change at the end. And notice how I said 'unintentionally fooling kids'. Learn to read and interpret the English language before you criticise a comment.

  • Yeah, she's not Johny Cash or Nine Inch Nails... but come on! Is obvious there are a lot of feelings in that vocals. Are the same feelings or pain? No, that's the point of a cover, a different view for the same song. And, as always, Leona owned the song, her vocals are breathtaking.

If you don't like Leona Lewis simply don't look her videos, but don't say stupid things. This is a great job.

  • This can't be real....she's OUT OF THIS WORLD! <3

  • i thought this was a remix version of "Run". Leona is getting too predictable, no variations and im falling asleep now.... yawn

  • Not as deep as NIN and cash's version of the song, both of them had depth, the latter even more so. This seems like shes just trying to prove that she has a wide vocal range, and wants to move away from the cliche pop star tag with no emotion, pain or whatever attached to this song.

  • PLEASE WATCH AND LISTEN TO MY COVER HERE IT IS.

  • I wish you could un-hear things :'(

  • its a good version but a song like this NEEDS feeling - reznor had the drugs, cash knew he was dying. Lewis has... errrrrrrrrrrrrrm

  • Write your own songs you slut!

  • love this songgg!

  • If you don't like this cover, simply search the original and listen to it. Some of us, for the record, are mindblown by this version. No need to ruin it for us with negative comments.

  • Gotta admit at first I didn't like the off notes at the start of song but can see what they represent and its kinda clever. Just took a while to grow on this cash fan, still prefer the original but anything that puts cash's brilliance out there is a tribute I guess and this ladies voice is amazing.

  • @panto880 : Johnny Cash's version is the best, it's so awesome that any other version is just a poop

  • This is the problem with xfactor and things like that. It all becomes so unpersonal and meaningless. This song is supposed to be difficult to listen to because it was written by a man falling to pieces. And we have already had to endure her turning a personal song by Noel Gallagher about his baby daughter into generic pop. Yes. She has a great voice. And what? Think of every great artist in history and they are all so much more than a great voice. And none of them repeatedly murdered great songs

  • I feel hurt that walt disney took a shit on this song.

  • Comment removed

  • Her talent is excellent, but compared to the Nine Inch Nails and Johnny Cash versions this one seems very vanilla. Those two are seeping with personal experience and carry a tinge of personal truth. This one just seems like a song. She's just singing, she's not telling a story. Good but not great, not deep.

  • @eckohour

I totally agree. Not hating on Leona or anything, her vocal talent is absolutely brilliant. But emotionally incomparable to Johnny Cash's or Reznor's. In Cash, you hear a man's lament at the twilight of his years. His pain, his regrets and anger, folded in a quiet acceptance of grief. While Reznor conveyed a man's frustration and struggle with taking control of his life. It's personal, so it's beautiful.

It takes more than just the best voice on earth to give soul to this song.

  • Meh.

  • No.

  • For the first time she not sounds like a robot. Amazing rendidtion and a lot of emotions.

  • I,love this song lol x

  • Well its not a new song its classic song by Trentz Reznor.

Still its a good cover of it.

  • i just love her.

  • Okay everyone, she was in pain when she recorded this. Just quit making up lies about how she's just singing it off of a paper. If you don't know her or her music you have no right to judge her. If you sit here and lie that you can't hear any emotion in this than you are just flat out lying and we know you are so just stop. You sound pathetic and you can't except the fact that she has ties to this song just because she is sort of a pop singer. She sings rock too.

  • @TheUltimatekelis As noted by someone else: she doesn't understand the song; she sings it as it's written on the sheet. She sings it in tune and technically well but no more then that.

  • When i heard this song on x factor i didnt realy like it as i started to lissen to it on youtube i love it !! I,know they have rected leona lewis buy the face and that but dont take it on her shes a wounderful singer betta than us and always will be x

  • i don't get why people are complaining so much about this. it's not like she butchered the song. be happy that it got covered by someone who can sing really well.

  • @TheUltimatekelis If you read my comment you would understand. You can't just cover hurt. You have to be hurt to understand what Trent was feeling and thinking in order to know the pain behind the song. I mean you can cover it but it won't be real and ppl will see through it. Like this cover for example. Cash covered it wonderfully because he knew pain

  • @StickyInADarkBlueCut Leona knows pain though. She broke up with her boyfriend of 10 years last year. he put her though a lot and that is pain. It may not be cocaine addiction but it is still pain no matter what way you look at it. Listen to some of her other music like 'Broken' or 'Alive' she isn't the typical pop singer. She has never been a sellout she is mainly pop/rock/adult contemporary.

  • @EmeliSandeDaily 'Broken'?? Is that another NIN rip off? But anywase this song is ok I just don't think she feels the same pain. Trent went on a tour called the self destruct tour that lasted 2 years and everynight he would cry on stage and fuck himself up until he'd be bruised and bleeding by the endof everyshow. Lets see Leona Lewis show her pain

  • @StickyInADarkBlueCut Obviously she doesn't feel the same pain. In most cover songs, you don't blatantly copy something, you put your own feelings into it, and that's exactly what she did. And she shows emotion through this song very well, as she always does. She's not the best thing to come out of X Factor for no reason...

  • @StickyInADarkBlueCut this isn't a rip off and no 'Broken' is an original from Leona, quite painful actually. A cocaine addiction isn't the only source of pain you know.

  • @LeonaLewisArmy yes that is true but with reznor it was so much more than a cocaine addiction. It was a cocaine and alcohol addiction because the media made him like that, they built him an image and he felt he had to follow that image, even though he didn't. On top of that his grandmother died who was the person who raised him as a child. Pretty hard times when he wrote this song. Also I believe that this was the reason the whole album was entitled 'The downward spiral'.

  • Full of broken thoughts I cannot repair........ This song is way too happy sounding as opposed to the twisted sound of reznors cocaine nightmares. Utter failure. The needle has never torn through Leona Lewis's skin. This bitch probally just got dumped by the guy she likes. WHACK

  • The only real 'hurt' from this song is to my ears

  • oh god every time i listen to this song i have to cry haha

  • Comment removed

  • This is so haunting. It echoes when Amy Lee of Evanescence used to creep into my head singing "My Immortal" with such a sense of despair. While I do find the production quality on this version creates a wall that restricts her emotive quality; if they kept the song relatively similar to first minute or so (that lower register of hers is to die for), it would have been much better!

  • SHIT

  • whenever i hear the chorus, i hear passion - and if that isn't the greatest emotion known to man, then i dont know the world like i thought i did.

  • @Ssarah97 I hear shitty auto tuning and zero emotion

  • @StickyInADarkBlueCut well that's your opinion, and mine is that i love this version

  • everyone I know goes away in the end..... < ---- favorite part

  • she's allowing people of this generation who would otherwise not know of this song to hear it and appreciate it's AMAZING beauty. Hey, even haters have to agree, it's better then the rubbish pop which is bombarding the current music industry.

  • let the haters hate. They don't get anything out of it; all they have is the hate in their hearts and their opinions that will only hurt them in the end. Those who love will prevail, those who hate will suffer.

  • This is what happens when Simon Cowell gets hold of great music, he sucks the life and power out of it.

  • to all the haters... DO ONE! if you dont like it, dont comment... stop being an opinative twat :)

  • @MrVidguy12 Please stay the fck away from music. She CLEARLY is not covering this to make it powerful or meaningful. Hell, it probably doesnt reach her personally at all, that would make sense on how she could try and make it a poppy/happy song.

  • She did ok, but she stepped into a ball park she had no business in. Trent Rezoner and Johnny Cash are both epic musicians and she just isn't (not sayin she is bad though). This is like the local high school baseball team facing off against the world champions.

  • I love it

  • Also she made a 6 minute song 3.. And covered Johnny's lyrics now the original smh

  • Trent made this song when his wife died, Johnny covered it because of his wife passing. Lewis just can't write her own shit

  • its my first time listening to leona lewis i think she's pretty good.

  • @VIRUS2496 pretty good? she's incredible.

  • @VIRUS2496 rly?you've never heard her stuff prior to this???? search her on youtube... i find it hard 2 believe

  • @VIRUS2496 you wanna hear good, listen to i see you by her

  • Sorry guys, I'll have to say the orignal was better.

Partially because of slight autotune I can hear, partially because it was written to give a completely fucked up and disturbing and suicidal impression, not a pop ballad that makes it appear that not all hope is lost.

Although, I have to respect her fine taste in music.

  • @NinetyNineNiteyFive You numpty the original is always better!

  • this song is amazing! :)

  • I'm probably biased, but I just can't find myself liking her version as much as the original.

  • None of you were there while she recorded you don't know how much emotion she put into the song. She sounds like angel and all of you are to ignorant to realise it. This really makes me question what our world is in for with some many ignorant people. no offense.

  • @MrVidguy12 You obviously have no clue how much more emotion Reznor put into WRITING the song.

    Just sayin'.

  • Haha its hilarious how ignorant you haters are. If you were smart, you'd probably wouldn't be saying that. None of you, and I'm positive on this, can sing as phenomenal as her. So don't hate, unless you can do better.

  • @MrSmiley361 When was music ever purely about the singing?

Real music is about the emotion and effect that it gives off.

  • Comment removed

  • Dude, who the fuck are all of you to say that she has no right to cover this song? The song is amazing and obviously she can sing so it also sounds awesome too. People can cover a song if they want. Sure voice your "opinions" (ignorence) but you don't personally know her and probably never will. Think about how she feels when she puts time and effort into this song and there's all of your haters talking shit because theres no emotion, Respect people.

  • I think you should stop hating!! This song is awsome!!!!!!

  • @Spriinkel

Shut up... What has she to sing this about??

Need needs to write ONE of her own songs ffs....

She needs to quit and adopt prostitution or something....

  • @lightsdow GEE YOU JERK, YOU MUST BE THAT DELUDED TO UNDERSTAND THAT SINGERS LIKE LEONA LIKES TO PAY RESPECTS AND JUST COVER A BEAUTIFUL SONG. KMT.

  • @Spriinkel Is she paying respect to Cash or Reznor?

  • i fucking love the song but in my opinion hate this cover, just i dont hear the same emotion from her as i do from NIN,or johny cash...

  • I love her music. I paid her tribute with a cover on my channel.

  • WTF? Why is she covering nine in nails? This is sh*t.

  • I lvoe how people diss cover songs, yet the artists compliment each other on them.

  • Comment removed

  • PEOPLE, WE CAN LIKE MORE THAN ONE VERSION!!!

  • I bet 95% of the people here haven't heard of Trent Reznor....

  • you cannot "spoil" a song when you sing like this, i love leona and if it wasn't for her i would have never discovered this song. I'm sure nine inch nails would have nothing but compliments for leona's rendition of this song - the emotion which she puts into it is truly breathtaking.

  • @TumblrSam95 in my opinion you hear alot more emotion in trent reznor of NIN's voice, and even johny cash's...

  • I think this wasn't bad! It was really good! :) she made this song into her own and that's what counts!

  • shes beautiful <3

  • different..Not bad, just different. Oh and I am a big Johnny Cash fan but his version was a cover as well so you shouldn't compare Leona Lewis's version to Cash's,you should compare her's to the nine inch nails original version....just saying

  • @spiceislerep This is very harsh and racist

  • Very nice.

  • Its a great song And Johnny Cash being of another era did his best while singing it and it was full of his emotions But her voice and HER emotions and she being of another era gave this song a new entity u can criticize her but she recreated this precious song which must have taken her alot of courage to do so which should appreciated She is a wonderful singer n I truly think she needs a round of apploz for what she has dun rather than the criticism shes gettin Jus think of it as a new song

  • @DNMalik i completely agree with you

  • Leona's new album release date has been pushed back to November! This girl has seriously got bad managers, she's digging her own career grave... One bad move after the other. I used to love her but im slowly loosing interest because everything that shes done since her first has been dissapointing!

  • Additionally, people cussing out and raving at everyone who doesn't like the cover just because they do seriously need to grow the fuck up.

  • This is almost as bad as when the Jonas Brothers covered a Beatles song, or when Madonna did American Pie. It's a shame I can only dislike something once.

  • This fuckin sucks ! The johnny cash is way better than this shit

  • i profer johnny cash's cover you can hear the pain in his voice where you cant in leona lewis' cover

  • she thinks she white and her nose is 2 big

  • @spiceislerep You make no sense, how can somebody's nose be to big? What is wrong with you making remarks on somebody else's appearance. Grow up and learn not to be so judgemental!

  • this is how she sounds live, how amazing?

  • leona lewis is doing a great job kudos girl.

  • this cover makes me wanna puke she doesnt have the right to ruin such a powerful classic song

  • @fearingthedark666 'doesnt have the right' its an amazing cover?!

  • @fearingthedark666 this is far more like the original than johnny cashes cover, i personally love them all but cash connects with the song much more. but hey, everyones entitled to an opinion

  • Go to my channel and Support my music,Thanx

  • Omg you guys need to chill out it's a freaking cover, she knows it's not her song.

  • everyone who's saying that this is good I'm sorry your so wrong its shit.

  • @05hipkinja be accepting of others opinions, agree or disagree, dont make a statement like your the boss

  • @Alyk666 Trent didin't covered it, he is the actual owner of the song, Cash was the one who covered NIN in 2002, but the song was released originally by NIN in 1994. So I give you and advice, when someone says Leona Lewis doesn't knows what Hurt is, he or she are telling the truth, because she made this cover to make it commercial, this type of music will never have the emotional charge that other genres ACTUALLY have, like blues or rock

  • Comment removed

  • well i personally loved this song . js

  • What. The. Fuck.

What the hell is she doing? Its a NIN song, but this song is Johnny Cash's song.

After that cover, every freaking artist in the world should have known to leave it alone.

Shes freaking 26 years old. She doesn't know what Hurt is.

    Johnny knows what Hurt is.

  • @CRAZHEART014 How is this Johnny's song? Nine Inch Nails made it in 1994. Johnny Cash Made it in 2003.
