  • <3 jm forever

  • I'm watching this is 2013!!!

  • His name is John Mayer, and it is SUCH A BIG THING.

  • im watching this in 5984! and shit be hectic!

  • its refreshing to hear one of his songs played without the roaring applause, gives you more of a chance to let it soak in

  • I just found out there's no such thing as congestion! XD

  • Who's the bass player?

  • @gabbybuns david labruyere

  • @ardiandhani Thanks! :)

  • i'm watching this in 2012!!!

  • I sometimes wonder why anyone would fall in love with John Mayer. Then I watch him sing, and it all makes sense. He songs with such passion, so much emotion that you're as lost in his music as he is.

    3

  • That was some of the most amazing bass playing I've ever seen. Phenomenal.

  • so good :)

  • sexy bassline !

  • thumbs up if you are watching this in November 2011!

  • @ushmo10 actually Dec 2011 :P

  • @ushmo10 November 2011?? this is January 2012!!! yeah

  • @ushmo10 it's April 1912 here and there's word that a giant ship sank. And yes, I'm on the internet and listening to John Mayer WAY before it was cool.

  • I love this and I love him

  • give me that soul....

  • He looked a bit more manly when he was playing dreadnoughts.

    (Is that an HD 28?)

  • @ryan06105 Martin DM3MD. Dave Matthews signature model.

  • This Shits Classic~ He looks so young and fresh

  • -3 I love John Mayer .

  • I just say: Thank you John Mayer

  • Did the bass player learn that in heaven? He's so good

  • the name is : No Such Thinq....not : No Such a Thinq....:D lol pls correkt this whe´n it qoes :P ....

  • @GalaxyMiley no. it's No Such Thing. There is no Q in the word "thing". Stop doing that.

  • @GalaxyMiley I don't know why you're trying to correct the title. You probably couldn't even spell your own name if you tried

  • David LaBruyere is one badass bassist, one I model my bass grooves after

  • Good stuff.. John Mayer is fully awesome! Not many singers sound just as good live as they do on recordings..

  • the early 2000's eddie's attic john showed the most potential of any guitarist i've ever seen. and look what happened:)

  • i'm loving the bass in this:) it's such a good song, no matter how old it gets.

  • u make me smile...so big....

  • slap a da bass!!

  • I'm pretty sure artists just move on to different collaborations, I don't think there was any hard feelings or tension between John and Dave. They just both wanted to make some different art.

  • When is this from? This was his first single, maybe that's why he's not as good as today :D

  • @mogens345

What in this video makes him not as good? If anything this was when he was most inspired lol

  • fucking goosebumps.

  • davids such a beast. awesome bass, but i feel like this is one of johns weaker performances. still better than pretty much everything else tho haha.

  • why the hell was De La fired?

  • @bjhMus1C he quit he wasent fired

  • @guyinfuckinghat yeah, i found out that dela and his management decided to leave for some reason.. wonder why though

  • @bjhMus1C i would get sick of backing john mayer too lol

  • @guyinfuckinghat

    family reasons I think

  • @bjhMus1C Dala is such a wonderful bassist! but i think DaLa just dropped because Pino Palladino came, and he just couldnt stood against a LEGEND! Lol

  • @ManelRuivo lol, well i know DeLa was a little down to hear that John wanted Pino to work on continuum and battle studies instead of him. i think he may have just wanted to do his own thing.

  • hands down best artist of this modern day world.

  • This guy his voice is such an amazing quality! He's awesome! If i ever hear one of his songs i yell "EAR SEX"

  • David LaBruyere is the bas player

  • Reverb?

  • Holy mother of god, DeLa just tore shit UP on that bass.

  • DeLa ftw

  • DeLa Rules,John Mayer Rules :),awesome guys!!

  • Hey! I'm a 12 year old blues/rock/pop guitar player. John is my favorite musician of all time. I love all his albums and all his songs on all his albums. I did a cover of this song with a really cool solo! It would mean alot to get some feedback/constructive crititicism on it!

  • it's the bassist... it's the bassist...

  • Who is the bass player?? He is killin!

  • Who is the bass player?? He is killin!

  • his upper lip looks funny at the beginning

  • A little more reverb lol

  • He's rushing like its his job.

  • pasue at 0:6 seconds..he looks exactly like ace ventura lmaoo

  • @wenser13 haaaaahahah! TRUE XD

  • @wenser13 i thought the EXACT same thing.

  • David LaBruyere is simply phenomenal.

  • this is great...JM w/o ego

  • whats the bassis'st name?

  • @ziyakhupha David LaBruyere

  • Check out a original magic card trick that follows the lyrics to No Such Thing perfectly! Card Songs by Jason Jacobs.

John Mayer + Creativity + Magic = something you've never seen before

  • why the freak did i not kno about john mayer until earlier this year! ugh!

  • @1RodneyG lol dude... where have you been man! :P

  • he looks so damn young back here lol, now he has a sleeve tattoo and long hair and other tattoos

  • 2:44

  • Grat video! I am learning this this song on the guitar.

  • the verb on the guitar is way to much. it really sounds like it's in a seperate room.

  • This guy is brilliant.

  • is this sex? sorry guys, just gay.

  • @IamMyOwnDisease your so right he does look like Jim Carey at 0:05

  • anybody else think that he looks like jim carrey at 0:05 ? :P

  • wtf..

    ''No such a thing.''

  • awesome bass player !!

  • awe he's sooooo young in this video!

  • dam thats faster than orginal.. lol nice tho

    Still Great music

  • Perhaps my favorite video. Very cool bass groove. Like this version much better than that on the album.

  • I LOVE THE BASSIST! he's such a fag <3

  • I love john mayer.. But why don't the songs on Battle Studies sound anything like this!!

  • @pixi3angeldreamx because he has grown...

  • Dela stole the show.

  • This song hit such a deep chord in my life. John Mayer's an awesome musician who moves people to so many emotions, even tears when he sings of past difficult and painful times. You are a star among stars John and keeps using your God given gift to lift people and open their eyes and hearts with your music.

  • i dont really like the song but the meaning its cool

  • I love how everyone here has enough taste to know how great a bassist Dave is.

IMO, Pino, John's current bassist, has NOTHING on this guy.

  • @inuyashaspet i believe the exact same thing,ok Palladino s great session with many famous basslines(he s older than dave tho:P),but that guy s such a low profile player(without pedals, slap ,tapping n blah blah stuff),with great great great basslines:),he s one of my all time fave bassists(the john mayer trio with dave on bass would be great),his basslines are Groovy n make u smile=)

  • I only half agree w/ VSHawkins. Being a solo musician is tough. Writing all your own fills, leads, and rhythms is hard. You have to be phenomenal to get signed. But I think he also relishes in being clever. Don't we all?

  • I love the acoustic/ bass combo, just like drums/ electric guitar combo.

  • I'm more impressed with Dave Labriere than John :) Awesome.

  • Not sure who I like better, john or the bassist? Great playing on both ends!

  • he looks so diffrent.

  • wish they would show more of dela! look at those fingers like lightening haha

  • hahahahaha ironic smile at 0.08

  • yeah wonderful groove by bassist

  • I love this song. My favorite pop song by john is either love song for no one, because i feel exactly like that sometimes. or it might be bigger than my body, because i feel that way sometimes too.

  • How I love your work John. I wish I was fortunate enought to have seen you perform live last time you were in Australia but alas I watched you on Rove and Ellen with much envy. Would love to meet you someday soon..... Elizabeth

  • he is coming to aus, seeing him 30th of april

  • Mmmm! i got me a ticket to see my boi, May 2nd I believe, without getting my ticket out to check. Can't wait 55 more sleeps to go

  • too much reverb on the guitar

  • awesome!!

  • the bass is great!!

  • lol you dont know your music

  • i gotta agree with calleighrena, john mayer is alllllll about complexity

  • the bass is good... it fits the whole song..

  • i disagree with you.

    the bassist is god. haha

  • @jaloo111 I know its so much better just those 2 instruments! :)

  • you're telling john mayer he's playing his song wrong? lol. i think it's a good "cover". :P

  • DeLa is the man he's my friend in facebook!!!

  • awesome :-)

  • DeLa dtw!

  • Aww....I wish he could return to his former "down to earth" persona, before he became a douche.

  • I concur!

  • Dumb comment,....mans a genius. Conformed to all your pop needs that he hates to make himself big....now he jams out and plays the blues he loves and is a prodigy at

  • incorrrect, his new album is just as poppy as ever.

  • @Coutureprincess0303 I totally agree! :( I miss the old him so much

  • epic bassist

  • I concur!

  • Just had lunch with him today, lol.

  • Yeah, and i'm Jennifer Lopez,

  • You had lunch with John Mayer? Do tell... :>P

  • No, I actually had lunch with DeLa, as some know him.

  • And DeLa is...?

    The Bass player? :S

  • Why do not believe u?

  • John Mayer Rocks !!!! ^^

  • no joke how does his voice stay great live AWW MAN THATS SO GREAT!

  • I dont know why they gave you a thumbs down?

    I completely agree.

I love John Mayer, I have his last 2 albums. Slower would have added more emotion.

  • thx...maybe they had different taste with us...

  • I like this tempo, next to that. Slowing down wouldnt fit the lyrics either.

  • The bass player rules...great feel....and strongly agree with roverdino BRING JOHN MAYER TO THE UK!!!!

  • This geezer is superb !! He needs to get over here in the U.K to do some concerts...

  • HIS BASS PLAYER IS FUCKIGN AMAZING!! OMG why didnt he keep him, i mean pino paladino is amazing dont get me wrong, but this guys incredible too!

  • dude, that's david labruyere. he played with mayer from his debut album to where the light is. so.. john did keep him. haha

  • well they did keep him for the other band at least in the where the light is concert..

  • He did keep him

  • pino just plays with the trio, david plays with the fullband

  • o ok got you... well so he technicaly still didnt keep him for trio but yeah.. lol kool... thnx!! Dave is still fucking amazing tho! lol

  • he never changed the tempo! lol i think it just sounds like it bcuz he changes up the strumming pattern on the guitar

  • he does make it a little faster.

  • ohh ok

  • I almost feel as if the tempo is changing every now and then, esp in the first few lines. (goes faster and then back). The bassist keeps up well with that. Does anyone else hear this?

  • john tends to do that, if you watch the video of him playing stop this train at "Where The Light Is".

but yes i do hear it a little. it's not as bad as stop as what i mentioned above though.

  • I have the DVD, I'll check it out..

  • fuck this bassist is very great syncopated line at 3:00

  • I can definitely hear Dave slipping up a bit after this part. Seems like he needs to work his plucking muscles.

  • uggg - who mixed this!!!! way to ruin a great performance

  • If you're talking about THIS one here, then go decapitate yourself. This one is a hell of a lot better than the studio version.

  • One of the few artists that sounds the same live as they do on an album. That's an awesome skill to have!

  • Agreed Mayer is one of the few artists of this Generation of music that has any talent, Jason Mraz being one of the other few!

Mayer has a great ear for music and his arrangments are always great no matter if they differ from the original.

    Long live Mayer!

  • dave matthews?

  • + some counting crows goin on

  • any1 no what year this was?

  • 1st time i see dela using a precision bass

  • what scale dela the bassist is using?

  • looks like 34'

  • haha, Johnny looks so young here. Great tune.

  • are you high?

  • maybe you are high?

  • The bass player looks like Eddie Vedder with a bad perm.

  • Sadly, most Jewish women look like a cross between the Hunchback of Notre Dame and a troll.
