  • theres something called the start menu you retard dickheaded redneck

  • I don't think it's the OS. In this case, Windows. I thought it was the software, or programs themselves that gave that option, not Windows. I've installed some things on Windows, when I ran it, that didn't have any "Install shortcut on Desktop" or "Add to Quick Launch" in them, if the OS, it should exist in all, right?

I think it's the programmers of the programs who do that. Maybe because they know typically on Windows systems people put those on their desktop for easy access.

  • you can put a program on your destop

  • first off, i just want to point this out.. PC means personal computer, that being said, mac is also a PC, it is a matter of windows vs mac, not pc vs mac. second off.. windows users use icons because we have access to all our programs, where we want them, when we want them, and we dont have to go into an app folder when ever we want to do something

  • The moran could just put them in his doc but thats why he likes windows cuz its for morans

  • Well Vegas is an idiot, that is what I say! You are THE best youtuber AppleSoldier! 

  • Also.. On a PC you CAN put a program on the desktop. You have to make a folder for it on the desktop then open the folder then click the boot icon, but its almost the same. By the way.. Why the hell would you want a program or app on your desktop?

  • I have a PC and a Mac and you two are both retards. If you put all your apps in your dock then it clutters up your dock. Likewise, if you put all your programs on your desktop it does the same to your desktop. Put all your apps in an app folder on your dock to fix it on a mac, and put all your programs on the start -> programs list on your PC. Mac and PC are the same but different. EVERYTHING you can do on a mac you can do on PC. It is really just what style you like,

  • hey emeek, ever heard of the the "All Programs" menu on the start menu? all your installed programes are there once you install it.

and btw, why is it "annoying" when the system asks you whether you want a shortcut? and do you want it to be like a mac? where you have to go to your applications folder and drag it to the dock? silly silly boy.

  • This is what people buy a $1000 computers for? ROFL, to complain about desktop clutters?

Computer + mainstream users = FAIL!!!! LMAO! No wonder "PC for dummies" is a hot seller at Wal-Mart.

    Desktop clutters???................ROFL!

People are so silly these days.

  • Because a lot of Windows users like using their desktop....as a... desk top? And keep....files on it? and.... open them? Thus why it's called a desktop?

  • that 3d bullshit in the photo gallery is only in windows vista ultimate for $500. so i am paying $500 for clutter

  • I couldnt take it anymore i installed a third party app on my pc of a similar dock like on mac. i then deleted my icons and but the task bar at the top.

  • start > all programs .............

  • i wonder how vegas feels now

  • I have always hated all the bullshit windows puts on the top and sides of their explorer windows. Apple's aesthetics are waaaaay more user-friendly and efficient.

    OSX

  • the dock was made fore about 12-35 icons

  • no the dock can hold 100's

  • this is sooo fuckin retarted lolz

  • Come on man.

You don't have to go to the program files folder to start a program if you don't have the shortcut on the desktop.

    You click the Start button.

If the program your'e looking for is often used, it will be available right away (depending on your startmenu settings off course).

If not you go to "all programs" and click on it (XP and before).

  • fuck windows im geting a Mac

  • Notice how at 3:25 it says NEW DESKTOP. Of course it will be spotless you moron. And WHY, tell me why is it to bad to have icons on the desktop that you use EVERYDAY? And have you ever heard of drag and drop? And people don't click yes to making shortcuts because they don't know any better, they click yes because they WANT a shortcut.

  • its really a personal thing, but i personal have my desktop for temp files....stuff that i download or whatever goes to my desktop then it gets deleted by the end of the day.

i just think that having a desktop full of icons is a person who just rushs through their computer and dont organize it. i mean i have RocketDock to have all the App's that i use everyday and still have a clean and clear desktop.

  • Lol you're so dumb

  • what a fucking noob...obviously he doesnt understand that the home screen is made for icons...or everything would be command based...and y not have icons? so i can see a picture? sry dude im too busy running stuff on my pc to fucking look at the home screen.

and he totally makes mac users look like cult members with his whole os 10 fingers....dude get laid!

  • well i must say that although i almost never agree with him in this situation he said something that could nit have been more true.. for windows users there is really not much of a choice left on whether to create app shortcuts or not. that is indeed a fact. I must say also that the other guy seems to be pretty biased as well and not much informed but i can't handle taking a look at his account.. both emeek and another fanboy on the same day is a no no :P

  • lmao this guy is funny he is like my idol llmao.

This whole discussion is stupid ,one sided because who cares how your desktop look. VegasUndergroundLive is right, you are retarded. Its very funny how I the way my desktop looked influenced a friend of mine who uses a mac because of how clean it was. I say the majority of mac users have ckuttered desktop aswell. this whole feud is pointless and windows 7 is gonna rock emeeks world. I bet he will be the first in line. Have a nice iLIfe turd. os X

  • Dude, I don't think it was an attack video. In fact, I think you are taking it way out of proportion. He is trying to say that you have a choice between putting apps on the desktop or the dock.

  • your dock is like a shortcut it there to make life simple just like windows users put apps on the desktop all you do is click on the app in the dock its running same the short cut and whats worng with clutter you idiot eveybodys got a choice

  • nice vid i h8 dat guy he cusses 2 much...

    ignore these h8rz..

keep up the good work i subbed!

  • emeek your a fucking idiot plain and simple. your taking what vegasunderground is saying way out of context! hes saying that users are the ones who make the clutter you fucking "mook" no the OS! emmeek your a fucking ignorant retard!

  • You are a ignorant retard! The windows desktop may look cluttered, that i only because it a common convinence. And when you said the start menue takes up the whole screen, it can but ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE IT UP. One of the great things about windows is that the doc doesn't jump out of no where and open a new aplacation with one stray click of your mouse. You must have been imbreed. I bet your family tree is a straight line. And another thing. Stop taking Vegas out of context. YOU ARE RETARDED!!!!!!

  • "i rather be retarded than fuckin ignorant" ahhahh okkay

  • I love your videos, been watching since last June, keep up the good work! OS X.

  • You obviously run out of shit to do in your time because you will throw out any retarded uneducated video just to get some views? Your an asshole.

  • Oh my fucking god shut your hill billy mouth you fuck bag. Your always looking to attack Windows, but I guess that's fine for someone who owns shares in Apple right?

  • No I'm not gonna navigate to my program files, I'm gonna throw it on the quick launch bar or click the start button...retard.

  • watch?v=dcSUAcYfmLs .... and Thanks for watching :)

  • hey why dont you learn how to use a mac before making videos how about how not to use it...

  • Because every app you install on OSX goes to the dock at the bottom of your screen. It is the same principle, but we have them on the desktop instead of in a dock.

You dont have to navigate to program files. THERES A MAGIC THING CALLED THE START BUTTON.

  • Actually all of of your applications go to your apps folder. You can decide if you want to put the app in the dock or not. The dock is just a way of making it easier to navigate your files and your Applications.

  • Dock is crap uses too much resources compared to a taskbar

  • Oh? Care to back up that statement?

  • try use it on a horribly old machine, like a g3, than you will understand. the dock is sometimes to slow that its like watching a slide show, if you have auto-hide turned on. if people can complain about bad vista I can complain how slow, and bad a g3 is with leopard.

  • Dude, leopard doesn't work on G3 computers. Only generations 4, 5 and intels are supported. Actually, it MIGHT work, but the computers designed around that time were originally built for 10.2 and 10.4 at best.

  • it worked but very slowly, tiger was also slow though so I just went back to what it came with, not sure if it was 10.1, or 10.2. the point is that macs, and pcs, you will have to upgrade them around the same time, 2-5 years depended if you want a faster machine, or if you waiting for a new operating system. they both use alot of resources, not vista, but windows 7 to leopard, they are about the same.

  • That's sounds about correct.

Just wondering, what are the specs of your G3?

  • I have no idea, I am got it for free, and I am not next to it, it is a emac with 10.2, its from a school (they are getting rid of their macs), I am repairing their macs, but they let me have this one, because its their slowest one. it could have 256 mb, or maybe 128mb I don't know. I overclocked it to run leopard, and a patched iso.

  • I have no idea, I haven't checked it yet, because I am hundred miles away from my house, but it it has probably 256mb of ram. it wasn't to bad as long as you run a older version of osx. I think it doesn't matter what operating system someone prefers. I more interested in hardware most of the time, my room is filled with lost of scrap hardware. Although I wouldn't use osx because I have problem with the function, and GUi, I would recommend it to a person that is not very computer literate.

  • You know, in windows, when you are installing your application, you can CHOOSE to install it on the desktop. There's a little thing called "Install Location," in which you can install the program ANYWHERE. What's this bullshit about not being able to in windows? Oh, and by the way, I use a mac. I'm not a wintard, or a mac fanboy. Both of which are usually uneducated douchebags. Learn some facts.

  • Don't think this guy knows about the start button or how Windows works in general. Flagging this for shocking/disgusting content.

  • Or you go to Start, then Programs, then click the app you want to launch. Sort of like using the Finder isnt it? Worst come back ever emeek

  • -------> watch?v=NXUGb4uViCE

  • 2 words.

    Rocket Dock.

  • LMFAO, yet another completely stupid rant by this asshat. Desktop shortcuts are awesome. Also, if you don't create shortcut you use the start menu you fuckhead.

  • It's called the start menu. Have you heard of it?

  • this guy is so pissed off, its awesome :D

i personally disable desktop items on windows.

And if i do have them on i delete where appropriate, or i put them in categories. So if im gonna play games all day i open a folder for games and dont need anything else.

On top of that i can even put an RK Launcher dock in each of these folders, so i can then use a specific dock for the task i will be performing.

but usually i type the app name into instant search. so "clutter" means nothing

  • 1 star for you.

  • You don't install apps on the desktop on any computer/OS. This is why people don't like Macs. They teach people to not learn to USE A REAL COMPUTER.

Also, enjoy being limited and locked out of your own software. Enjoy never being able to program for shit because you assume you won't have to. Enjoy being manipulated by a company who would kill you for a dollar.

You may have your convenience. I'll keep my (actual) computer the way it is.

  • i give you 1.

  • Dude. You don't install an app on any desktop. Mac and Windows use shortcuts so that way you don't have to navigate into your program files and launch the program from there. And what are you talking about? "You can put the whole app and all everything involved with that app on the desktop." You just reached whole new levels of stupid.

  • First off, as everyone has said, you have the start menu, and theirs nothing wrong with shortcuts on the desktop. The dock is just a replacement of it.

Also, why are you annoyed with the fact that Windows gives you a checkbox to ask whether you want a shortcut? The only reason I can think of is that you are one of the people who don't look at it, or can't be bothered to move your mouse a couple of inches.

  • i dont care what you say, when i see both desktops more windows is cluttered than osx. You deny that? Your in denial, i dont care if it is the users chice. Why is win desktops clutterd 10 to 1 over mac?

    Now shut up

  • Actually Emeek, I've been looking around lately to see if what you say is true. First I looked at my sister's Macbook and hers was the most unorganized desktop there is, next I looked at my teachers' macbook and both of them had 1/2 the screen filled up with icons. I looked at the teachers who had windows' screens and they had maybe one bar along the side filled up. My desktop (Which is Windows 7) had 4 icons on it. It all depends on where you look Emeek.

  • You don't get the point. Watch Emeek's other video about desktop clutter, then read the comments written by sklanger and carlheanerd. Those guys explain it perfectly.

The problem is, all you guys don't understand what Emeek means. Yes, we know, in the end, the user is the one to decide how much icons he'll put on his desktop but that's not where we're talking about. We talk about the fact that Windows (compared to Mac OS X) lacks handy organization tools.......

  • And to contiunue.....

The way Windows is build encourages people to put icons on their desktop because it's the most handy way for them to open apps. So this is the discussion, but whether or not Windows puts icons on the desk itself, because we all know that's bullshit.

  • thank you, you explain it perfect

  • i dont get why people are bitching about icon's, if it makes what i'm doing easier than i dont care wha my desktop looks like

  • Owned.

  • Microsoft is garbage.

  • it's called the start button.

you dont need to go into program files.

and not everyone is talking about you.

  • Comment removed

  • Emeek, if you had a fucking clue, you would know thumbnails are just archived pictures not graphics running in the background.

  • look whos fucking talking..stfu

  • i think the type of people who dont pay attention to the little 'tick buttons' also dont give a shit about how much system resources thier picture folder icons take up.

ram is cheap nowadays. no one cares

  • I recently checked my sister's macbook and checked how much RAM was being used when it was idle and it was using 957 mb of RAM out of 1024 mb. On my laptop with 2 gigs of RAM it's using 600 mb of RAM on Windows 7, With the pictures opened it used 605 mb. of RAM. Windows is such a hog eh? OS X uses more RAM than Windows.

  • this is also on the macbooks at my school, but they take up ~800 out of a gig at start up, with only system processes on. and my brothers windows xp machine takes up 200 megabytes of ram at startup. with only system processes.

  • I give you one star.

  • Keep flagging his videos.

  • enjoy those pizzas?

  • emeek, you're a fucking retard. learn how file system works.

you CAN install a fucking program on the desktop without making a shortcut. of course there will be lots of other files, unless its a single-file exe.

Works exactly the same as on the Mac, you dumb cunt.

  • houdini is shit.

enjoy paying hundreds of dollars for shit.

  • is this a desktop thread?

  • Because the taskbar is a place for running apps the desktop for non running. (Windows 7) integrated the quicklaunch so now it is more common to lauch apps from the taskbar then before... Mac's use the dock for closed and running apps which is why the desktop is usually empty. Mined you my pc has no apps on my desktop other then the recycling bin... oh and a server program i use.

  • retart

    1 star and flagged

  • First learn how to spell retard before you go calling someone a "retard" you imbecile.

  • wow strange cuz i use a pc currently but going to muilt platform soon. apparently according to my friend the way my folders are setup on my computer its like FINDER!!! it is choice how u want your desktop to look. i got 3 icons lol safari, itunes and my HDD. so tell me emeek its choice and windows just asks a question that if you want to add a icon. its the users fault to not read what the install is asking.

  • lol I know who that is ;D

  • some people like to have a bunch of icons on their screen... you should see my mom's computer. Its not about what it looks like its about personal choice.

  • 1 star, flagged

Do you know how much oF a RAMhog Finder is compared to explorer? Maybe you shouLd open up Activity Monitor one dAy; you miGht be shocked.

  • I think there are more icons on windows desktops because there are more programs for windows and since you can make and save so many files there needs to be an easy way to access them and the desktop is the shortest distance to them(by the use of a shortcut as you said).

Here goes a 5 stars just to piss those other people giving you a 1.

  • as a mac user i'm starting to hate him more and more. this nerd needs to stop being a stereotypical mac-jerk.

  • Voted one and flagged your video. Have a nice day.

  • I have 24 icons on my desktop and it doesn't bother me *twitch* at all... I can get to an application quick instead of searching through a dock.

The applications I use most often are in my quick launch, so it's organized. Sure it's not as organized as anal retentive Emeek would want it to be, but it's my desktop and that's how I want it, not him...

  • Lol, lrn2 start menu.

  • you made yourself look retarded by making this video

  • he didn't mean it as a attack to you he was just making a point calm down emeek i mean i love your videos but please don't attack our fellow mac users

  • Shut the Fuck up you Hick motherfucker.

there is no point to installation, the larger the desktop file size, the slower the computer will be...as with windows.

id give you a - 10000 if possible, but sadly i cannot.

Icons have a fucking purpose. if they didn't we wouldnot have created them.

  • You know windows users can download a dock at any time? Rocketdock is even better than the os x dock, you can customize every aspect of it, it's fast, and runs like it was made with windows. It can easily solve your little "desktop" problem. Guess, what? I uninstalled it because the taskbar is better and the "superbar" that windows 7 has is way better. So yes, the reason desktops are cluttered is mainly because a lot of people don't use quicklaunch or they just like it cluttered.

  • Damn, you are the most retarded person ever.

How does Windows influence your choice? It says do you want to put an icon on the desktop, yes or no. Where does it say

BUT PERSONALLY I THINK YOU SHOULD OR YOU MAY DIE?

ALso, you are a faggot, and probably were beaten as a child.

I have FOUR icons on my desktop, Recycle bin, my folder, mum's folder, bluetooth. FOUR, plus, some people like icons, i don't, and it's simple as fuck to remove them.

Also, going to program files folder? PROGRAMS MENU!

  • But you can install programs on the desktop on windows (so long as it's a good program). Big denis man, I'm gonna drag and drop "OpenMPT" onto my desktop and it works fine.

  • And it IS a choice, I have almost nothing on my desktop.

  • duurrrr You can make a single .exe app and place it on the desktop in any operating system.

  • the desktop is just a space like any other folder in windows so ofc u can install apps from desktop NOOB

  • I give you 1 star and flagged your video.

  • Stupidity. Have you ever used a windows computer? Why do you even want icons on your desktop?

  • 1/5. Fucking noob. Go home.

  • But emeek, the only reason windows users have shortcuts is because they actually have programs to run on thier computers, OSX desktops have no icons because all mac users are retarded artsy faggots allot like yourself, because it looks clean and its pretty, I'm sorry, I digress, you're retarded emeek, since you use a mac, it just means you're not clever enough to use a Windows PC, not that I do, I run Arch linux, ergo, I am suprerior to you, you are too dumb to run it.

  • I gave you a one star because I'm a Windows user and I have no icons on my desktop, I launch my programs from the Start menu (pinned).

  • Oh no, I have a lot of icons on my desktop! GUESS WHAT? THAT'S WHAT THE DESKTOP IS FOR! I don't care about my gay little background, I spend all my time in applications!

As for how much resources the picture folders take, pretty much nothing. Computers do something called "caching" and once they have the thumbnails, it takes pretty much no resources to grab it again

Also, the Applications menu hold all the apps you install, not the desktop.

  • Dude, you're actually raging, you sound like you're about to cry. =[

1/5 and flag, I think your mom should cut your connection as the interwebs are making you so butthurt.

  • lold i don't even know what to say. Hey emeek, you can align Windows icons at the bottom of the screen also. Or you can have none at all which is less than OS X. Enjoy paying for your service packs.
