You should learn to dismount from the rear of the giraffe (projecting it to the front). This is the safest way to dismount, if you dismount from the front like you do you risk injuries by accidentally hitting objects or peoples that you couldn't see. By the way free mounting a giraffe it's a great achievement! Compliments!
I put one foot on top of the tire, then up to the opposide side pedal (with pedal down), then up to the seat. My biggest obstacle is my own hand on the seat, if I remember to get that out of the way I'm all set :-)
Good one. How many attempts does it usually take you to freemount? I've just managed it, the technique of holding the seat out in front then pulling it in underneath yourself works for me.
There are lots of things to consider. If your brother is used to unicycles with a different wheel size than what the giraffe has, that would make a huge difference. My giraffe is easier for riding very slowly than my schwinn, but my schwinn is easier for riding longer distances.
This is all because of wheel size. A larger wheel will be easier for distance, but more difficult for slow riding and idling. The larger the wheel, the more momentum it develops.
I can free mount a giraffe :) I do it differently, i gently walk with the unicycle and jump on and pedal, took some practice getting the balance straight away.
I get got my 5 foot one

you need to put your foot in betweent he two cross bards so the wheel doesn't move
Trancher73193 3 years ago
stepping on the wheel first then jumping to the seat works better.

That's better for a 7 foot giraffe, but for the 5 foot it's not necessary.
Getting your backside on the seat is the hardest bit, from then you shouldn't have any trouble riding away.

Except for the fact that if your really
short like me, you still need to put
your foot on the tire then the pedal.

johnnyholeshot 4 years ago
yeah, once you are on its easier to stay there!
wroughtironwrighty 4 years ago
yes you have more time to correct for error before you end up falling/dismounting

if you can ride a small unicycle (like i can)you can ride the tall one (like i can) but i suggest learning a small one first
drew1028dcm 3 years ago
me and my friend got one yesterday and we slid off a fence on to the unicycle, we need to learn this freemount though, its tough!

I am thinking about getting an giraffe unicycle like that. Is it hard to drive once you can get the mounting right?
Fighter7000 4 years ago
once you are on, it's easier than a small one!
wroughtironwrighty 4 years ago
How about freestyle? Is it much harder to drive backwards, jump, idle or drive with one leg?
Fighter7000 4 years ago
Just got one - and trying to freemount it - so great to see your video for some ideas ;-)
