  • Am I the only one? who thinks that there was a bit of sabotage? on the side of the Generals and Lieutenants? considering they are BRITISH!! and commanding a ROMAN army?

  • You know what, this team of "commanders" can do better if they do nothing. Absolutely nothing.

  • that presenter is such a cock but not as bad as the fucking four cocks this is so funny

  • Lol that host is so sarcastic xD

  • That was a truly cringeworthy episode of a great show. On a cringe scale, the bit where they put the roman legionaries into a tortoise formation is slightly worse than when Basil Fawlty gives a cheese box containing a rat to a hotel inspector. I laughed so hard I cried.

  • enjoyed this

  • This team sucked. lol. Wish they had been in charge of the real roman legion in 61. May Bou be blessed.

  • lol and those people work at the same place?

then won't look at one another for a while and Gary will eat his lunch alone forever!!!!!!!

  • These were the worst guests on this show ever! The guy who was a gardener said at the beginning that he was a leader and he lead them to their deaths! He was hopeless.

  • One of the most fun episodes of the show.

  • If you look up Epic Fail in the dictionary, you'd see a picture of this team.

  • lol at the VERY end!

  • @Butternut731863 no one goes away empty handed...cept yall

  • These idiots have no comprehension of cooperation & are very rude to each other. Generals lead, Lieutenants listen & don't speak until spoken to hence, follow orders. They're so busy trying to get their point in they don't realise anything else?Begins right from the start when they're asked which role they should play?Don't you just want to shout "shut the up"? There is no articulation or respect for 1 another.Do these people actually act like this in reality?Equal # men, woman

  • @Kilooscarromeo Although, a very interesting show, i find it aggravating to watch. I've never seen it before. Is'nt it obvious the people they choose for this show have difficulty playing with others? The whole point of the show Social psychology

  • What went wrong? They attacked....they advanced out of their defensive terrain...this battle was the roman's to lose...thye didnt want to be flanked yet basically flanked themselves........

  • @CMDRFandragon well more things went wrong; i've fought similar battles, aggressively for strategic reasons (E.G. fighting through an army to get to a beleaugered city), and i won easy enough...

but i didn't have this magelomaniac next to me bossing me around (or trying anyway) and getting my good ideas overshouted... the woman alone would've coped just fine in my opinion...

  • Wow. Wow. The real battle was the absolute opposite. How the hell do you lose to Boudica playing Romans?

  • the easiest battle that could happen all they had to do is wait and they screwed it up

  • tooth pick to the eye, very deadly. roman secret ;)

  • lol at Mike Loads throwing toothpicks ;p

  • this was 1 off the best t.v. shows ive ever watched :( i miss it.

  • Whoa that guy in the blue suit was getting way into it with the straws from his pocket XD

  • Aryeh needs to calm down explaining the battle (:

With little more time and calm manner, the ending explanation would be a superbly pleasureable experience.

  • Jo is still a strangely attractive woman :S

  • i want to see real military officers on this show.

  • @armandorivas82 They did that in the second season. They lost the battle of the Hydaspes river. They failed to set up the hammer and anvil after an impressive start and got stomped when they allowed elephants to get behind the lines. Even people who fight for a living have a hard time at this.

  • Aryeh and the rest of the experts were the real stars of Time Commanders IMO.

  • Comment removed

  • Epic fail!

  • That general-guy is hopeless.

  • wow our army is kicking ass!

    Die romans bastards die!

wait we we the romans oh no forever on youtube.

    DOH!

  • to comeplete hooting loons (the guys) 1 overseen genius (tall lady) and 1 discreet child.... what a pity for the genius

  • HAHAHAH " now lets quickly talk about what went right .... *silence* , now lets talk about what went wrong " xD

  • Love the tooth picks.

  • Aryeh's description of the Romans' tactics is nothing short of epic

  • @killcaptainstupid Aryeh kicks ass and the episodes with him and Saul David probably make women slide off their chairs.

  • @killcaptainstupid He's just an epic guy........ well not anymore. She's an epic woman.

  • @killcaptainstupid Aryeh is epic

  • TalonMercenary, I think 'the colonel' there is speaking about the britons who were fighting for the real boadicca. I think he means that it is them who have never before heard of the word "archer"; meaning that they had no bows/arrows, nor any knowledge of how to fight against an army that would employ them.

I understand that the romans used this to thier advantage.

    Dude, how old are you?

  • The toothpick guy is over the top.

  • @woodbinedrinker He's great though

  • The guy general is blaming his subordinates. He's a bit like Simmerson.

  • Yes, he had his head up his ass the whole time, totally clueless. This group should have never been on the show.

  • it's such a shame i think that the experts can't tell the bad teams what prats they actually are

  • Boudicca and her massive army acted in the same way as these mediocre strategists so that's why they were slaughtered by the Romans

  • That's really strange. I had a dream last night that I was on this show with my 3 cousins. I had used the chariots and javelin throwers to force the Romans into that tortoise formation and lured them out into the open while a group of light infantry infiltrated the forest. Then the chariots and cavalry attacked the Roman reserve and surrounded the enemy as the forest infiltrators came in at the end, and we won. Ironic.

  • Dude you have cool dreams. I've only had a few like that.

  • @ColonelMarksman

    No not ironic, coincidental.

    But still v cool.

  • ok these dumb asses

cant even controll the shit comin outa there ass

  • HAZAH! Glory BRITTANIA! One can only imagine what life would have been like if this had happened in real life.

  • We wouldn't have been the middle earth for sure.

  • Jeez isnt it common sense that the tortoise formation is meant to defend against archers and not infantry?

  • Well, yes, but you're talking to people who had never heard of the word "archer".

  • lol so your telling me that grown adults dont even know the word "archer" when i and most other people knew that word at the age of about 6 or 7

  • @xertexxetrex Yes XD. Short of stripping naked and making your army hold hands in a circle, I can't really think of a worse strategy.

  • Their two biggest mistakes:

    1. Not using the valley.

    2. too thin line.

  • their biggest mistake was to underestimate the disapline of the legionary cohorts

  • It is true but in short "lack of Ancient Tactics" like even a skilled modern general today necesserely could'nt do it much better and I bet a general today would even know what testudo is :P

  • that wasnt too clear? are you saying modern generals are worse than ancient ones?

  • No I'm saying modern generals and people have more expertise on the modern warfare (Guns Artillery Tanks Bombers etc.

  • yea but ancient generals are better considering the fact theat they were not taught anything near as well as today

  • ancient generals don't have the advantage of moderen technology like recon photoes, UAVs, and knowing exactly what is happening as it happens. great ancient generals are far better and have to be good

  • They had a good eye for ground, and they knew their men and what they could and couldn't do. And they could size up their enemies as well.

  • why in weasels did they abandon the heights? not only that they abandoned the narrow place where they could have won. But they left, formed a thin line, made a testudo in melee (diocy) and let themselves get split up and cut apart! I am so glad these people weren't at any real battles, they would completely fail.

  • The problem was that they weren't told how that worked!

  • they dont knoww anything about military stratergies!

  • haven't they read some books and stuff? Like they know about flanking and cavalry and stuff

  • You can chuck toothpicks at me all day!

  • lol

  • Of course, in real life the Romans weren't led by commanders with the intellectual capacity of a boiled potato

  • imagine if you were a roman under command of them lol

  • You would kill them at night.

  • I would have deserted before the battle. And no one could blame me for it. :)

  • Wow.... wow.....

  • ah these gus are just retarded, giving up the hill, the tortoise formation. What the hell is wrong with these people.

  • They are inexperienced, that's all.

I was more or less like that; for about 1 or 2 battles. After that, that, it's a routine of bombarding, pinning, flanking and chasing. Sometimes, the tactics change, but that's the basic.

  • I can't bear to watch this anymore. The commanders were just pathetic.

  • There are 2 problems with this show.

    1. the general people should play the game and practice a bit before actually doing this. We think theyre morrons but I think they just dont know how the engine works.

    2. the guy that moves the pieces and throws them against each other should noot do that, he's scaring everyone. just pushing is enough but nO he has to hurl it so it hits everyone around him.

  • the show specifically chose people who had no idea of the game or have any tactical knowledge. that is the reason why it makes it interesting =) because if we, the ppl who knows the game, plays it then it will be boring

  • That's correct, we who play Rome, Medieval and possibly Empire over and over again, sometimes having to overwhelm the odds, we all know too well the mechanism. The tricks we can use to defeat the AI...

It's quite understandable that the average people who play here have no slightest clue of basic maneuver (flanking, force concentration, etc ....) or even the rock-paper-scissor relationship of units.

  • Finally someone said it but they were not playing against the AI they where playing against a person who has been told to do what the person did but in this battle was succesfull to taunt the Romans :)

  • but thats no different as they would have lost even worse against the AI

  • Have you ever played Rome TW and Medieval 2 TW? The AI is crappy.

  • ah but this ai is specially made for each battle

  • I play RTW and i think the man general would still lose to the AI lol.

    I mean, he's so bad.

  • I think it's a human of flesh and blood told what to do on the other end :)

  • It is 2 armies being controlled by role playing the actually tactics. Time Commanders uses the same system of RTW used to build the multiplayer.

  • lose to AI

    the ultimate humiliation

  • In the 1st series the people picked had no gamein' knowledge to stop them using their gamein' skills, plus rome total war wasn't released untill a year after the first series so they couldn't have trained on it.

  • Ugh even after they lost the battle, they still had no clue what they did wrong!

My favorite part of these is when the historians show how it actually happened, because it's really cool!

  • they r so shit im killin myself in annoyance!

  • I agree. Their tactics are truly suicidal!

  • You call those tactics? They were improvising!

  • well, historically speaking (according to Goldsworthy's book: The complete Roman army), the Romans did counter attack Boudicca's charging infantry at the very last second, as to confuse them,

but even so they most likely held their formation, and this all happened at the original site, WHERE the team SHOULD have DEFENDED for the most part, with their flanks secured by the surrounding hills

  • this team talking over each other were the most annoying and useless ever

the male general was not only clueless but clueless but assertive. A terrible combination as he overrode the other more competent general.

  • I love how in the beginning they were talking about the Celts not having any strategy, and then utterly losing because they THEMSELVES had absolutely no strategy!

  • Ironic eh?

  • If that was how the Battle of Watling Street did turn out then justice would've been done. These commanders were 'Useless by James Joyce'.

  • LOL i could have raped the Britains these people are retarded lol.

  • onli now they show "defeat imminent"? defeat was imminent b4 the match even started lol everythin they did was wat not to do in a battle lol they all needa play RTW

  • That would be annoying if "Defeat is Imminent" flashed in front of your face for online battles lol

  • those experts are a bit mad

  • classic example of why Hollywood sucks. testudo my ass.

  • lmao

  • Lol, wait, so movies.....lie???? :(

  • its not that they lie, its that the film makers are fricken arrogant, like in the directors commentary for Gladiator: "I don't care what historians say, this scene is cool."

  • I know the objective of a movie is to entertain and not just to be historically accurate, but as a history fan I go insane when i watch some of these movies. The charge of the Romans against the Germans in Gladiator? Horrible, what about throwing their pila or keeping formation?

Have you ever watched 300? As an action movie is not bad, but again, if you like/know history, you'll go insane. Phalanx formation apparently means running around swinging your doru like a moron.

  • well 300 was ok since it was obviously a fantasy/action movie which happened to have a theme, but there was no excuse for Gladiator.

  • I agree to a point, the Spartans never left that pass, I am sure the Athenians did due to the number of their own troops.

  • Leonidas ordered everyone but the Spartans to leave. The Thespians stayed (and outnumbered the Spartans on the final day), as did the Thebans (though they were kept there by force).

  • If I remember right, 1 thousand Thespians stayed.

  • According to Herodotus, there were 700 Thespians present at the start of the battle, so by the final day there would have been 700 or less.

  • One of the easiest battles you could ever fight. You're roman, you're outnumbered by ill-disciplined Britons. You have a bottleneck which you can block that negates their chariots. Let them come to the meat grinder and let the legions do what they do best. Why did the Spartans fight at Thermopylae. Because its a perfect bottleneck where superior any advantages superior numbers dissapear.

  • True. Many Roman footsoldiers also have pila (throwing spears) which could counter the British advance. The Roman general did let the hastati do just that.

As a general, you got to know that you can't let your anger get you and let your soldiers get into a trap. The only excuse is that this was maybe their first battle commanded.

  • they should have play Total war to be able to win this battle =)

The British out flank them badly...

  • yeah well this show came out before the release of RTW.

  • These uncles and aunts watched too much Benhur.

  • I'm not being funny but they clearly knew the brits has not many missle troops and mostly swordsmen with their own agenda, and the should of used their quality to defeat them but fighting the brits where they could not deploy their number effectivly(so the brits could not surround them). The romans should of sat on the hill shooting their archers, and when close enough just pella(javalins)the brits, softening them up and then ingauge in concentration. then they would of won. lool gd vid thow

  • They just can't admit they lost becase of there of own foolishnes

  • got a question they get money doing this?

  • nope they dont get anything, even when they win lol

  • lol indeed

  • its that man general thats the worst, he ruined them:(

  • He completely botched it.

  • One thing that I must do in this type of battle; Make sure that they(enemy) play your game! And the britons played there game clearly.

  • There wasnt much of game for these people lol, the britons came up and slaughtered them. ;)

  • they lost right from the start of their deployment

  • this one was great. it was so funny to

  • Yeah it was, its a 'what not to do when playing time commanders'

  • thats a great way of putting it

  • what a good episode

    ty once again

    (shame they're bloody fools)

  • no problem =)

  • i love it when the balde guy does the re enactments at the end lol

  • Yeah he is one of the best in my opinion, very theatrical in his descriptions.

  • What a group of useless bastards... -_-

  • Thats a little harsh lol ;)

  • Ya. But not TOO harsh :D ;)
