@ArhiCO it's partially poor compression on YouTube's part, but it's also something I could've dealt with before hand by doing the right compression out of Logic.
WOW your voice is insanely amiazing! I am so speechless i have nothing to say :/ JOIN MY FUCKIN BAND!!! man honestly thou your better then most singers that are famous.
My tip to help prevent the "compressed sound" when singer louder is to set up two compressors in series. The first one, set a lower threshold and a mild ratio (2:1 is good) so it evens out the vocals without getting rid of the dynamic feel. Then set the second compressor with a higher threshold and heavier ratio to act more like a limiter. Ratio at maybe 5:1, and watch the input level as you get to the loud vocal parts. This compressor should only kick in slightly at LOUD parts to tame them.
i know nothing of the technical aspects of music/recording/etc... but you are very good! it does sound very professional, and thats one of my all time favorite songs... for both the musical and poetic sides of music...
That being said... i'm not impressed at all by the mic dude. It sux. But i may be wrong too... it could be youtube, like you said.
He Jables, sounds very good. Good vox technique and good micing. It isn't easy, but you've done a hell of a job. How do you use your pre-amp and compression settings for this?
this is great, nice job! great voice too, and nice guitar playing. if u could make a tab of it that would be great, ive looked and they dont sound ass good as this. good luck and great job!
this is some seriously pro work. Vocals, guitar, and recording.
how do you feel about the 414? I am considering getting one, I had a SM7B like your other vid but found it didn't capture the finer details of the voice like a good condenser...
man I have a lot of trouble getting the plug ins right. could you maybe give me a quick rundown of the settings you play with so I know what to focus on.
@mattandhisguitar The SM7B is among the best dynamic vocal mics available, but for it's particular sound: It tends to smooth things out, project the low end, and handle pressure well. I love the 414 I have. It's designed to rise a bit in the upper mid-range to help the vocals sit particularly well, and it's incredibly transparent when coupled with a transparent preamp. More of the things I do will feature the 414, and it's instantly recognizable as compared to the stuff i was using before.
@mattandhisguitar as for plugins, well that's a whole different story entirely! Always start with compression when tracking, then EQ. The rule with EQ is generally take away before you add. Everybody's voice is different, but with just compression and EQ you can generally get a great sound. Everything else after that is preference.
@jables2309 Let me see if I'm getting this right. (1) Add compression going in? Like during recording... then (2) play with EQ on the recorded track after? And first reduce frequencies before adding frequencies...?

@iviaverick52 thanks man, I'll try that out next time I'm doing really loud vocals (which is actually pretty soon on some original stuff).

@jables2309 No problem, experimentation is the best way to learn.
