Huh? The poorest were taking money from the government during the 70s and first part of the 80s. There were no jobs due to the Carter administration's heavy tax and spend policies (double digit inflation, double digit interest rates, double digit unemployment). This turned around during the Reagan years because of the taxes being cut, prosperity and a booming economy raised all ships. More revenue for charities from conservative/religious Americans with money increased charitable donations.
what Reagan administration are you looking at? There was NO prosperity during the 80's. We were actually in a major deficit due to Reagan's unnecessary "Star Wars" program and during Reagans administration we actually suffered not one but TWO major recessions. The economy did not boost until Clinton fixed all of Reagan's mistakes in the mid 90's. Before you make unsubstantiated and incorrect statements please do your homework.
And yet Jindal turns down 98 million in stimulus aid for unemployment, health services, and income for poor families because of conservative idealism.
If that's how republican's look after the poor and middle class, it's no wonder why the GoP failed miserably last November in those respective voting groups.

And taxation has been an instrument to change behavior. What Obama said in San Fransisco was clearly a plan to apply Cap and Trade to coal companies to drive them out of business. His words. There are many more examples of this.
Taxes that are punitive cannot be called a social responsibility. When government seeks to penalize charitable contributions, it is creating a governmental big brother similar to communism. When taxation is used to change behavior it is liberal. When taxes destroy the free market, they are socialist.
Governors like Jindal don't need to be shoved. They just do the best for the constituents and it propels them to national leadership. Jindal has done more for poor and middle class in the last year as governor than all the Dem corruption in the last 40 years. The people of Louisiana know they are cared about by Jindal and they aren't turning back.
Individual initiative is under assault by government handouts. It's easy to let the government pay you for adding as little as possible to the economy. It takes initiative to move past the fetters of a punitive tax system that will lay the weight of big government on any who dare to be motivated and succeed.

Even today, the GOP still refuses to see how past injustices continue to affect and prevent minorities from achieving social/economic equality with whites.
As a culture, we lack individual initiative. But some Americans--black, white, gay, straight, Christian, Jewish--have historically been predisposed to poverty, discrimination, etc, and have no one to turn to but government. You can't say "There's too much welfare" when unabashed, unregulated capitalism would prevent most people from starting a small business or earning a decent salary. Take a closer look at the industrial revolution in the 1900s: low wages, monopolies, child labor.

First of all, I'm not a Republican because of John McCain's stance on illegal immigration. On MSNBC and why they are left leaning is because they tend to say that if you are not for the public option, than your for the status quo. They say that opponents of said bill do not have otehr options, which is false because my congresswoman from my district has sent me 8 of the bills moving through congress that total less tham 40 pages. And lastly, Olbermann, Schultz, and Maddow only have yesman on.

Huh? The poorest were taking money from the government during the 70s and first part of the 80s. There were no jobs due to the Carter administration's heavy tax and spend policies (double digit inflation, double digit interest rates, double digit unemployment). This turned around during the Reagan years because of the taxes being cut, prosperity and a booming economy raised all ships. More revenue for charities from conservative/religious Americans with money increased charitable donations.

Jindal administrations spending plans for a $414 million economic development fund.
For a chicken plant, The Shaw Group and two New Orleans area projects.
Using the money for the poultry industry and The Shaw Group would require the Legislature to revamp the state law .

The GOP was never pro-civil rights party. Yes, they brought an end to slavery, but that's because slave labor competed with waged labor. The war was about money, not morality. During Reconstruction the racist, anti-big govn't attitudes of the Supreme Court prevented blacks from gaining social and economic equality with whites. Even today, the GOP still refuses to see how past injustices continue to affect and prevent minorities from achieving social/economic equality with whites.
