  • ahlgrens bilar?

  • i enjoyed this vid

  • Good Video.. Thanks for vids. Cools

  • Great. But he's swedish, and who isn't an atheist in Sweden? Should have chosen an american astronaut or someone from another country:)

  • Haruhi his English is bad...

    what an embarrassment

  • @faarsight (for context I'm swedish)

  • Wonderful choice of music - says it all - what a wonderful world/universe.

Let's enjoy and care for what we have here and stop preparing for some hypothetical next life. Otherwise we will miss the best!

  • Sweden FTW! :D I´m also an Atheist

  • SCIENCE SHOWS THAT THE UNIVERSE could not have sustained itself eternally because of entropy (even in an open system). Einstein confirmed that space, matter, and time had a beginning! That beginning had to be supernatural because natural laws have no ability to bring the universe into existence from nothing. The supernatural cannot be proved by science but science points to a supernatural intelligence for the origin and order of the universe ~ HOW FORENSIC SCIENCE REFUTES ATHEISM (Article)

  • @Mogley52 Go read up on some actual science and not the christians pseudo science you have clearly been partaking in..

And the "article" you recomend is a dishonest lying ridicilously skewed piece of fiction that angles actual scientific data to suit its needs - completely ignoring or obscuring the actual factual results and meanings of the source material. And im not even touching the wild inacurate claims you make for 2/3 of the article.

  • WHAT IS SCIENCE? Science simply is knowledge based on observation. No one observed the universe coming by chance or by design, by creation or by macro-evolution. These are positions of faith. The issue is which faith the scientific evidence best supports. Natural laws can explain how an airplane or living cell works, but it's irrational to believe that mere undirected natural laws can bring about either. Read my Internet article: HOW FORENSIC SCIENCE REFUTES ATHEISM

  • An astronaut who thinks that seeing the world as a physical phenomenon resulting from nature being self organized for logical processes and conserved by material elements operating within natural energies? Yeah... he's a heretic. The idea that nations can work together to build something other than war, oppression or genocide... a true radical. No wonder he scares faithful (stupid) people.

  • problem is that in america it is still taboo to be an atheist

  • @Ramshobraja I would dissagree with that point because there is 16% of us in the USA! :)

  • hahahhahhaahahahahahhah SHOCKOFGOD BLOCKS ALL ATHEISTS. BECAUSE HE'S A FUCKTARD.

  • I really loves this video but i am not atheist but i respect atheist as every one is entitled to there on belief that includes me as well

  • don't let glen beck find this video he'd claim it's a conspiracy

  • Anyone with the understanding of the universe required to be an astronaut will most likely be an atheist.

  • @AzxE10 People who look at the magnificant beauty of the landscapes of earth come to the opposite conclusion.

  • @Invesigator actually, you are wrong, observers who are lack ambition to understand what they are seeing will just throw their hands up and say "GOD DID IT", but the people who study those landscapes and determine how it was formed see the science (not magicy bullcrap) behind it.

  • @DrDeso1 What is the science behind the existance of the human brain?

  • @Invesigator that is called neurobiology, but since we don't know everything about it, (in your opinion) we should just drop all research and stop funding the scientists looking for answers, throw our arms in the air and just shout "GOD DID IT! END OF DISCUSSION!". You are using a "argument" technique called god of the gaps, look it up.

  • for a while he was the pride of the nation

  • It is safe to say 90%+ of all astronauts are atheists.

  • @ShredTheGnar690 Even atheists need evidence to back up their claims, whatever their claims may be. You say, without elaboration, that 90% or more of all astronauts must be atheists. Got evidence?

  • @ShredTheGnar690 To be fair that's probably not true. They tend to come from more airforce stock. More religious and conservative. The NASA engineers on the other hand? Probably atheists.

  • Stance on beliefs notwithstanding, one must appreciate the wall of floating laptops!

  • @InfernalApocalypse Pain on the ass to type on though.

  • Congratulations! I'm glad I found this video.

  • Congratulations! I'm glad I found this video.

  • Thgis should be called "a swedish person in space" , since 90% of swedish population is athiests!

We just dont belive in gods.

And how could you when you fly a big spaceship in space, thats the farest way from religion you can get : )

  • Have to disagree. MOST of us Swedes does not believe in any god whatsoever, however there are SOME which lack the intellectual skills, or just simply isn't well educated, or indoctrinated, and believes that there is one.

I find it rather disgusting that they do, because, as Christer said, there is nothing that the physical laws can't explain.

Religion has caused more trouble than good, the best would be to fucking obliterate it. Atleast Islam, Christ-insanity and Judaism.

  • "What a wonderfull world" - Satchmo's classic still chokes me up 40yrs after first hearing it.

  • there is no god on earth or in space

  • It's great to be a part of the space and not the bronze-age.

It's also nice to know that Atheism is alive and growing.

Keep it up all you godless people, we are winning.

  • @itsasin1969 You're winning what?

The war against intelligently designed arguments?

  • @TheColaGoodfellow

We are winning the war aginst ignorant, delusional people who want to infect our children with their nonsense .

  • @itsasin1969

You mean nonesense like the idea that all true beliefs are intelligently thought up?

Or nonesense like the idea of intelligence being the authority on what's real?

Doesn't sound like you're winning against theism here.

  • @itsasin1969

    we r winning!

  • @itsasin1969 WINNING!

  • @itsasin1969 God wins in the end of this age.

  • @13SuperKings Jesus is a jerk.and the only "MIRACLE" We have ever witnessed is how humanity still buys into this religious horseshit! The bible/Quran defames the whole concept of god, locking him into an evil cartoonish bronzed-age emotional jerk. Get real, get a real life and really live.

  • @itsasin1969 Have you read e Quran or Bible all the way through before. I believe it is important to read things before judging them on their marits.

  • @13SuperKings Because I was born a ministers son and indoctrinated my entire young life in the church, I understand where you are a coming from. I have given the matter much thought and investigation, (to the point of nausea). Including reading the bible cover to cover. I can tell you that the bible is a load of rot, god is a bloodthirsty jerk and faith is a joke.

  • @itsasin1969 amen!! lol

  • funding for space dead- soon global economy dead as atheists scum everywhere- slaughter repeats as monkey people enjoy shit

  • @FairyPirateQueen.

Yes, absolutely, but best to discuss it on a blog or forum rather than a 500 character limit youtube comment thread for a video about a NASA space mission, I think. You'd have to be a very keen reader to scroll back through hundreds of messages to pick this thread up...

But at least if it must be on a youtube thread then one for a video discussing Islam might be helpful? And be taken more notice of?

  • Interesting vid.

Shame the comments thread has decended into a tiresome slanging match about Islam.

  • Yeah. Really strange comments on this youtube video. I think we need to go through and mark them as spam

  • Tell me about it, all I said was in reply to someone saying 'all religion is non-scientific,' and I stated some our greatest scientists and mathmaticians etc have been religious. Just don't generalise religion's with a following of 1 billion people into 1 category, of course there are divisions, welcome to planet earth! Then I get a torrent of pathetic personal insults and they say I'm the one who's intellectually dishonest...then again, welcome to planet earth, I should expect it.

  • How does a 'great scientist' being religious make any religion scientific?

I don't think any religion wants to make any scientific claims, they couldn't deal with the actual research anyway. It is funny when individuals try though.

  • OK....I'm back and asking nicely.

What is the punishment for leaving Islam?

  • What is the punishment for leaving Islam?

  • @evolutionist101

    pretty sure its execution

  • Yeah, I know. I'm waiting to hear it from purplepric3. Unfortunately, he can't be intellectually honest and admit it. His excuse for not answering me is that I was rude. So, I waited a while to ask him, but he still won't answer. He can't defend the close mindedness of Islam, so in return he retreats into a world of denial. He cannot defend it...so he ignores it. Solid logic...according to him.

  • lol,

Be stoned to death... I think :P

  • Although, in now days, it'd be something like being ignored by your family for a few weeks... And not getting envited to weddings :P

  • @purpleprinc3

    Why don't you answer evolutionist101?

  • I'm faggot

  • He could have meant in his quote that there is nothing beyond the ability to explain physical laws, not that it is impossible that there is a god.

  • The majority of the world's muslims do not speak or understand Arabic yet they are made to memorise the Quran in a language they don't understand. So memorising the Quran is just as useless and pointless as if the thing was memorised by a Parrot. They cannot understand the bullshit they are spouting and therefore have no idea of the hateful ideology they have been forced to mimic

  • LAMO!!! "Weightless... and godless" i love it!

  • Baha'i Faith sucks!

  • why can't us english folk get NASA tv

  • these guys are so lucky... =/

  • ...and hard-working!

  • well god only exists in the minds of wackos on earth

  • ha well im glad you know he exists

  • It does not exist... duh

  • Atheism for the win. It will prevail.

  • Wow Christer Sturmark (president of the Swedish secular humanists) and Christer Fuglesang in the same video. Full of win.

  • I would presume that most of the astronauts have some level of belief in a supernatural if only for the demographics but I would also presume that most of the mission specialists i.e scientist (because of the same reason of demographics) is atheist. Not that it really matters.

  • Why the big deal over this atheist astronaut? Aren't most, if not all of them atheists? How is this news?

  • @krebul No, since only a few percent of the population is atheist, I guess they just wanted to stress it. No massive piece of news.

  • Most astronauts are atheists.

  • Sweden is already home to a higher percentage of immigrants (mostly Iranians and Somalians - I'm not counting Nordic immigrants) than the US.

  • And I'm not advancing some nationalist agenda, I'm simply stating a statistical fact.

  • Freedom itself protects from oppression. However, it doesn't protect against much else, including other people exercising their freedoms. So, do we want to be protected from tyrants or from each other? Unfortunately, you can only have one or neither; you have to choose the right one to get it. The other choice simply leads to neither.

  • Ah, a fellow countryman:)

  • dont forget freedom from religion, speech and expression too...

  • Militant athiests, religious fundamentalists, they all serve themselves whilst betraying the moral cause they pretend to be promoting. To manipulate the weak by giving hope and whilst the elite reap the rewards, be it athiest or religious, it is the common person who always suffers most whilst fighting amongst themselves, blaming eachother. To preach serving the people whilst only serving themselves. 'Pawns in the Game" by William Guy Carr 1958.

  • Democracy must be tempered by fundimental rights, though. (Otherwise minority groups can get victimised democratically.) So in some respects, the concept of a book of absolutes isn't so bad.

The trouble is, who gets to write the book of absolutes. And who updates the book?

True democracy is fine in theory, but in practice, there are so many differing views, and so many people with prejudices, it's very difficult for democray to be "fair".

    It's a can of worms! :D

  • (Comment removed by Stephen Conroy)

  • This is a VERY good point. Much talk is made about how Stalin didn't oppress in the name of Atheism, yet still he oppressed.

    I salute you! :)

  • Take a look at the World Peace Index and you will see athiest nations are the most peaceful. Don't take my word for it, google it yourself.

  • weightless and godless!!

  • Damn!! They got more laptops than BestBuy

  • BBAAHAHAH check out that dudes bald spot

  • Space is scary.

  • @DeletedDelusion taking a look at your own butthole in the mirror is a LOT more scary

  • did he just pronounce his own name wrong?

  • Yes, but he tried to pronounce it in a way English speakers would understand more easily.

Christer Sturmark uses the correct Swedish pronunciation (at 3:08), but I should probably point out that Fuglesang originally is a Norwegian name.

  • Why the fuck is there a Creation book advert on here? Do these cocksuckers know no bounderies? Damn Google ads. lol.

  • is he the first atheist in space?

  • @phlexonance

i think gargarin was the first

  • @AustralianPyro

good answer, totally forgot about the soviets being atheists ;)

  • People forget that because its pretty much irrelavant. Its like finding out Jack the Ripper was also a good tap dancer. Unrelated facts.

  • @phlexonance

"totally forgot about the soviets being atheists "

Yeah, the atheist Soviets atleast, all 4% of them, even fewer than the USA.

  • @phlexonance probably not, most people who work in space are scientists, or higly educated people. The longer the education is, the less believe in god.

  • @Terje1337 that's what I think too and that's why I wonder why this dude is being especially labeled as atheist and there's a vid about him, an interview etc.

  • yeah, A lot of the European countries is very atheistic, godless. There is probably more atheists than not that travel from Europe.

  • I dont get it, I thought all scientist were atheists! I mean how can you be a good scientist if you believe in magic. A religious scientist would be like a programmer that things his computer has a soul!

  • @camoy0

    Spirtus ex machina?

  • @purpleprinc3

Oh please; Islam is just as silly as all the other religions we have names for.

Like the rest it makes claims it can't justify and none of its morals extend beyond the people's of the period in which it was created.

Its prayers arn't answers; magic dosn't work and is based the human desire to be loved from on-high and dominate others.

    Simple.

  • You have clearly deluded yourself into believing in fairy tales, even so far as to think those fairy tales are 'based on logic and science.' The fact that a Muslim discovered the scientific method is no more to the point than that a Christian discovered planets have elliptical orbits.

Science doesn't need your fairy tales, and neither does the future of the human species. In fact, your fairy tale's existence lowers the chances of our species having a long future. Does that bother you?

  • @ purpleprinc3 If I were a Muslim, what is the punishment for rejecting Islam?

Then you can get back to me about being open minded.

  • @evolutionist101 I love when we use their own rules against them....Well stated.

  • Since you don't know Islam you can't be blamed for rejecting it since you have a distorted view. Were you expecting me to say you'd burn in fire and brimstone? Sorry to dissapoint, your confusing it with Christianity again, if you knew anything about Islam you are judged on your 'intentions,' quite fair no? Ask yourself why there is this hatred again'st Islam and what purpose it could serve, then you'll find some very uncomfortable answers. 'Pawns in the Game' ~ William Guy Carr 1958.

  • Ill ask again......WHAT IS THE PUNISHMENT FOR LEAVING THE MUSLIM RELIGION OF ISLAM?

Leave the psycho babble out this time.

  • Death as mandated by Hadith...Because we know he wont answer.

  • rather pathetic...isn't it?

  • I wont dignify that with an answer, I can read, no need to write in capitals, nor is there any need for personal insults, I'm confident enough in my own point of view not to feel the need to insult others as should you. When you can act with courtesy and re-phrase your question, perhaps I'll answer. I can't be bothered with people who call me barbaric without saying a single personal insult yet continually insulting me, who's the barbarian? Hmm, I wonder where that word comes from...

  • @purpleprinc3 .

2000 BC First text indexes (various cultures)

1600 BC An Egyptian medical textbook, the Edwin Smith papyrus, (circa 1600 BC)

400 BC In China, Mozi and the School of Names

400 BC Democritus advocates inductive reasoning

320 BC First comprehensive documents categorising and subdividing knowledge, by Aristotle

300 BC Euclid's Elements expound geometry

200 BC First Cataloged library at Alexandria

800 AD Experimental method begins emerging among Muslim chemists (Oh there you are)

  • Thanks, your research only serves to prove my point. Only 200 years after Islam started it was making major scientific contributions, maybe you should insert 'Islam started roughly in 600AD,' so its a physical impossibility for them to make discoveries beforehand, you cant compete again'st something that doesn't exist...Ignorance is amazing. Nice quick google research though, only take you 5-10mins to come to that conclusion? That's some major historical research!

  • @purpleprinc3 He asked a simple question, what happens to those who renounce Islam as their faith? And since the UAE just did an adjustement how many Dinars is a person worth in camels if they were murdered...the last adjustment was in 1983 I think or 1993. Any way how much is a murdered male worth now in camel to money exchange?

This is a real question and not at all slanderous.

It was just on the News so you should be able to tell me what your worth in camel to cash exchange.

  • Maybe you can copy and paste my insult to you....because all I did was simply ask a legit question:

WHAT IS THE PUNISHMENT FOR LEAVING THE MUSLIM RELIGION OF ISLAM?

You being unwilling to address this LEGIT question really speaks, in volume, about this pathetic religion and Muslim "open mindedness".

No need to "dignify" that question with an answer, but it would have been the first time Muslims ever showed any dignity.

  • The way you conduct yourself also speaks volumes, when you learn some respect, get back to me, take care.

  • @ purple-----I like the way you ignored my very FIRST question, which was simplistic, to the point and non-confrontational. This demonstrates you had no intention of answering me, regardless of "respect". This really shows how intellectually dishonest you are and demonstrates you have nothing of value to provide from here on out.

When you learn some intellectual honesty...get back to me.

  • Not much point discussing something intellectually with someone who doesn't respect you, as an intellectual, you should recognise this step of human interaction or academic debate. The insulting and bellitling manner in which you have conducted yourself also speaks volumes. All I ask is not to be personally insulted and ridiculed, I don't need to resort to such measures as I'm confident enough in my own view as you should be, let logic as opposed to insults show what is true. Take care.

  • purple----My first and direct question displayed no insults, no ridicule and nothing confrontational. You simply avoided the question and stated you would not "dignify" that with an answer. You and I both know WHY you didn't answer.

So tell me. How should I ask the question in a way you will answer? It's a simple question:

What is the punishment for leaving the religion of Islam? Its direct. It's respectful. It's non-confrontational. There is no other way to ask. Dignify it.

  • Ffirst question~f I were a Muslim, what is the punishment for rejecting Islam? Then you can get back to me about being open minded~ Leave the psycho babble out this time~When you learn some intellectual honesty...get back to me~rather pathetic...isn't it?~You and I both know WHY you didn't answer~ Indeed, non-confrontational, respectful, dignified..Give me a break and listen to yourself. I can't be bothered to discuss something with someone who has obviously already made a pre-judgement.

  • This was my first question----If I were a Muslim, what is the punishment for rejecting Islam? Then you can get back to me about being open minded."

Tell me...what's open minded about killing someone for rejecting Islam?

Are you going to tell the the "proper" way to ask? Or are you going to continue to not address it?

Shall I wait one week...then ask..."What is the punishment for leaving Islam?" Will you answer then? Yes or No?

  • ...best book i've ever read.

  • Show me evidence (other than the Qur'an) that any of the supernatural claims of the Qur'an are accurate. Otherwise, it's a fairy tale.

I suspect you yourself have not read the Qur'an. I suspect you are a troll--nothing more.

  • @purpleprinc3 there were many great minds in ALL religions Islam, Christianity, Judaism ,etc it's a fact that most of the time the people who would make discoveries would not want to leave the "security blanket" religion had for them to answer the rest of their problems, if the great minds of yesterday would see how the future played out with with their discoveries and the discoveries on many others after them, they would probably become as we are now very skeptical of their own belief system.

  • Like i said before "security blanket" we have all been taught that EVERYTHING is the will of God (within our own religion) so if you can prove something then "God made it so.." so to speak but hey believe what you want i'm not hear to give you a thumbs down or anything, i just like to help peeps out :3

  • Maybe help them out an do some unbiased researched.

  • How many Muslims have been awarded the Nobel prize for Science?

  • I don't know. I would guess zero.

  • @shashintokyo correct Zero have won the Nobel for Science.

However to be fair a female received a "partial award" as she was a co winner with another person and the award was for finance....

So much for the "inventors of science".

  • Nobel established in 1895 at a time of racial tension. Of course it's not going to be biased...Furthermore, a western institution to decide the achievements of the world? Obviously the West is most advanced scientifically, however that does not mean we can dismiss where we obtained that knowledge from and give due credit. You can't name a single Muslim scholar or scientist, which goes to show your historical bias.

  • @purpleprinc3 I'm not the biased one friend. You claim that Science was invented by a muslim. I have historical facts that show the scientific process was established centuries before the Muslim faith was even established.

My factual information is not a rejection of your claims it is the truth.

Second Nobel has been awarded to all ethnicities. Your faith prevents science from meeting it's full potential because your politics and religion are one in the same.

I have facts you have emotion.

  • ? I never claimed 'science' was invented by a Muslim, simply the 'Scientific Method.' Speaking of these 'historical facts,' care to share them? The Encyclopedia of Brittanica states the Scientific Method was invented by Ibn-Al-Haytham, obviously they made a mistake! Not... Speaking so much of facts yet cannot show one, which speaks for itself. 'Friend'? You call me the emotional one... Nobel Prize~ Were you expecting me to say otherwise? Stating something does not make it so, back it up.

  • @purpleprinc3 To fast on the key board friend I just provided the facts to you. So, what was it you were saying about not being emotional?

  • @purpleprinc3 and you did say it "was invented by" go read I'll wait here, calmly while you realize you just got caught in a lie...go ahead friend I have nothing to fear.

  • That's because when muslums use the word scholar, they are referring to someone who has memorised the koran word by word. An impressive feat of memory I freely admit but scholarly it certainly it is not. That is why muslums have contributed nothing to the modern scientific era.

  • Sorry but that's false, there are countless 5 year old's who memorise the Qu'ran we don't refer to them as scholars. I really dont mean to be rude but at least research the subject your discussing. To say nothing is harsh, there has been a decline, however to state nothing is a lie, there are countless muslim doctors scientists etc, you just dont hear about them, I can only imagine why.

  • @purpleprinc3 "there are countless 5 year old's who memorise the Qu'ran"

I find it hard to believe.

  • Then perhaps you should do some research and find out, hard to know something without studying it, wouldn't you agree? Sorry for the cynicism but I'm tired of people who pretend to know a subject they actually know little about. More 'recent' experts...

  • @purpleprinc3 The entire quran? Can you share a link? My Google-fu failed me.

  • When you say memorize, i assume you mean brainwash?

  • @purpleprinc3 "there are countless 5 year old's who memorise the Qu'ran"

I find it hard to believe but if and where so true, what an absolute tragedy. Talk about brain washing the innocent.

I think it fair to say islamic culture has contributed nothing to the modern scientific era. Those individual muslums who have contributed certainly have done so despite their bronze age religion.

  • It's spelt 'Muslim.' Your insulting attidtude only speaks for itself.

  • How it's spelt does not invalidate points made. You are a typical muslum, you just can't wait to get offended.
