  • He's like itzhak Perlman on cello... You see one video of him playing Bach.... With black hair and then look at the related videos a d there he is.. Playing the same song ... Sme hairstyle... Just old and grey lol

  • @Tazza17 no, he is Angelo Branduardi with your violin

  • He never changed his haircut nor his awesomeness, just his haircolor

  • Einfach Virtuos!

  • i thought i was gonna be the first one to say he looks like sylvester stallone :'(

  • es un maestro!

  • He looks so much like Sly Stallone!

  • Stallone?

  • I didn't knew Einstein could play Cello that good : O

  • @ricardofiorani Really you didn't? lol

  • Maxim Ryanov plays the Bach cello suite on a Viola - one of the best sounds I heard on YT :):):)

  • I've never listen to the whole suite for some reason, fantastic.

  • La plus mauvaise version jamais entendue ! Quelle tristesse de rendre Bach 'romantique' à un tel point !

  • My cello partner plays withher mouth open too and we play this song all the time

  • Is this his real hair? Because in the video where he played the prelude, he had brown hair

  • @jabster9000 ..obviously he went gray then

  • @jabster9000 Sadly, he is aging.

  • Yes we know what you learned in school. I did too. But its not like Bach wasn't human. its not like he didnt have emotions. He obviously loved music and must have been passionate about it. And I bet you, that he played his songs with emotion at least once in a while lol. no need to hate emotions and the fact that he had emotions lol.

  • this is what i called Music! modern days's music is junks!

  • No ssa muito belo e´ lindo!!

  • His dynamics are amazing. Makes it look easy, which is the mark of a true master.

  • 02:36 - 03:00

  • Interpretation is free.....but I prefer his "old" and more slowly version.

  • @JeMiero I totally agree. His earlier version of this piece pulled me in and I could savour his dynamics more. This feels too rushed.

  • I wonder when was the last time he took a shower.

  • Oh, some bitch had to cough in the middle of such a magnificent part.

  • he looks like Einstein! Maybe its his long lost son!!

  • @99connick1 Dude, Can't you see he looks like Sylvester Stallone! Ha Ha! I love cello music though! Not trying to be a Troll!

  • excelente músico, solo un detalle: las horribles hombreras de su chaqueta

  • @HieloNegro87 Jajaja. Chistoso.

  • A true musician doesn't just play their music, they feel it. He's a perfect example

  • what hes wearing looks like the civilian clothes from star trek to

  • Questo violoncello ha un suono meraviglioso!

  • @makotosfeelings he is 63 y/o.

  • he looks like sylvester stallone

  • I love Bach, just incredible

  • How can I make mine sound better?

  • @TheDancer11304 I dont mean this in a bad way but there is no way you or anyone can play the cello better.. :)

  • how old is he right now :(?

  • OMFG HES SOOOO GOOOD!!!!!!

  • Its god! With a short trimmed beard.

  • I can't imagine how his hair doesn't interrupt him while playing cello?!

  • Thank you very much !

  • wow. O_O i wish i was as good as him.

  • FABULEUX !!!

  • His style makes it as though he is lifting something upwith each phrase he plays.

  • Nooooo cago todo el recital ese tosiendo ,!!!

  • un pelotudo tubo que tocer! todo lo demas es genial

  • I love the fact that you can hear him breathing, it really puts life into the music and it's one of the reasons I fell in love with Fournier's recordings

    .

  • @Bazement258Studios

I coudn't agree more with you. One of the reasons the Danes are so 'over the moon' happy with their new concert hall is the fact that its acoustic is a 'state of the art'. The musicians as well as the public can hear every sound all over the hall. As you point out: it's a living hall with live music in it.

  • @mugge62 Tak for videoen! Men... Det du skriver ang. "state of the"-akustik passer da ikke med det indtryk man får af at læse danske aviser - tværimod blev Operahuset jo netop udsat for kritik pga. dårlig akustik, både i publikums- og scene-rummet.

    Hilsen Kris

  • @krisp75 Hej Kris.

  • @Bazement258Studios you jut killed a lot of pices for me , for me the breathing interrups the music , and i didint knew about that until i read your coment , now i cant stop hearing it everywhere

  • @firedeathterror999

that's sad that you prefer clinical music... music without the life of the performer is stale music.

  • @firedeathterror999 It's alright, you just killed severals words in the English language for me.

  • beautiful!!

Do you know by the way that his name is Russian for Mickey Mouse?

  • @Bazement258Studios breathing yes but not grinding his teeth

  • @Bazement258Studios

    Magnifica melodia

  • @Bazement258Studios Thats so sweet

  • sublime performance

  • @luciefurr1 it is secular music. Sorry.

  • Thumbs up if you want to punch the person who cheered out "woo!" in the beginning.

  • he is psonio!

  • @laxwork All musicians have a psonio or/and they're a bit psychos, so I don't see anything weird on him ^^

  • Needs to slow down for everyone to enjoy the vibration. I prefer Yo-Yo's playing as I can feel the vibrations in each stroke.

  • @angellicvoices I agree that the tempo here is a little too fast, but as a general rule I have to disagree. I prefer Maisky's playing, personally.

  • seems like just a few videos ago he was black haired :o how fast they grow up.

  • He's Silvester Stalone!

  • too fast

  • What's up with all the coughing in the audience? Was this performance during a flu outbreak or something?

  • OMFG I'VE NEVER HEARD THE PRELUDE PERFORMED LIKE THIS BEFORE. THIS IS INSANELY GOOD.

  • There is a video of this guy about 100 years ago playing this same song.

  • Beautiful interpretation. I much prefer the smooth continuous bowing to play the phrases. It helps better express the fugal feel. Its how I learned that piece years ago when I played cello and how my teacher played it.

Never liked other interpretations with staccato bowing in the latter part of the phrases. When I first heard it played that way, I was shocked to find Yo Yo Ma as the cellist!

Here Mischa plays each phrase, then it's answer, then the next phrase. It's as a Bach intended.

  • Superb playing. TY mugge62 for sharing.

  • 9:18 WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Einsteine reincaranted as a musical genius....;))))))))))

  • Die erste Suite ist in C-Dur, nicht G-Dur ...

  • doesn't he also have a recording of doing schumann's piano quintet somewhere on youtube? (op 44)

  • @vanburikwouter Found the second movement og the quintet here :

    /watch?v=9krhBwiJg9k

  • @mugge62 so it is him thank you for replying!

  • @mugge62 Yeahh that's the one i was talking about. Too bad it's such poor quality. You can hear the breathing of the musicians too :(

  • @vanburikwouter isnt it with intent? I think the breathing underlines it

  • How is it possible that Justin Bieber has more views than Bach beeing interpreted by this eternal master?!!!

  • @M0GHIT0Z because there are far to many idiots in this world who don't understand real music, so they listen to simple music instead. and what is more simple then the music made by a 16 year old kid who looks like he's 8?

  • @M0GHIT0Z Cos most people aren't pretentious pricks like us. Not that I'm condoning Justin Bieber.

  • when the world is turned to chaos, music like this can bring peace, balance, love, and tranquility...

  • Ein begnadeter Künstler einfach genial. Cello und Mischa Maisky sind EINS.

  • hi I am Japanese, and I thought ,,,,Micha wears ISSEI MIYAKE , right ? Anyway Micha is my most favorit musician. He looks like,,Jesus Christ.

  • I agree wih certain people about his earlier interpretations being better... but he made very clear his point of view when he finished playing. This is HIS bach, as he understand it today.

Maisky will always be one of the greatest cellist, with an originality that comes like fresh air in a world when many of today classical musician are manly interested in playing more in tune and faster.

  • a little too quick I think, but still amazing!

  • @shadowballer20 ha ha.. ha..

  • @shadowballer20

    right !!!

  • animali è la suite il sol maggiore non in remaggiore

  • bullshit

  • Dammn he plays better than yo yo

  • I assume they play this music in heaven....

  • @mcdennem yup, the angels play this to amuse themselves when they are bored of playing beethoven for the gods!

  • @53donster ´

What are you talking about? I have not commented this video for at least a year now! However I have uploaded the video last year in December. That's all.

I think you should address the right people instead of being nasty in your foul use of your own language!

    Happy New Year.

  • @53donster You've probably never even touched a cello much less played one. Your sophomoric comments are but one clue to this fact. Mischa Maisky is one of the greats.

  • @53donster LOL - are you saying he's doing random notes because the video is like half a second out of sync? You should pay better attention. He's definitely really playing this piece - and very beautifully, too.

  • @53donster i've said this to every one i diden't mean to say that i'm sorry and post that as a reply th the video

  • you fucking fake

  • This one feels overdone...

  • i prefere his earlier interpretations

  • 5 people, 5 spineless people

  • perchè non la suona a tempo?

  • Perhaps my favorite cellist...well Pau Casals and Mstislav Rostropovich, but they done playing on Earth... Thanks for posting. Very good qulity and great performance.

  • Sucks biiiiig time!

  • I think he's aiming for a Baroque hair-style. Yes?

  • he should play it a bit slower like he used to before, it felt like it had more passion and heart into it :D

  • @PERROSKI323

The amazing thing is, that even with this newer tempo, it still has the passion and emotion that it always had.

  • Does anyone know what type of 'cello he is playing?

  • Wow! Sublime!

  • thank you for uploading this. "prelude" was magnificent.

  • what does the symbol on his necklace mean?

and is he playing a violoncello piccolo? I think I see five strings..

  • @Syphex

    Learn to count better.

  • He's amazing!

  • es un asco tocando...

Eso es todo lo que s epeude decir...

  • ENCORE !!

  • wow! I was there that night - crying :)

    it was so wonderful...

  • @suz2770 Lucky!!!!!

  • no one plays it quite like him. He has the emotion in his playing that Yo Yo just doesn't quite have

  • @TheKoodoos I disagree, I think Yo-Yo has a totally different style of expressing his emotion in his playing. I prefer Yo-Yo's version but I respect Mischa on a different level

  • @Cheeserguy Yo-yo rushes through his work 90% of the time to show off speed, Yo -Yo typically sounds staccato when in fact most classical pieces are meant to be legato. He has more of a robotic sound in comparison to Maisky who is extremely romantic in his interpretations. Yo-yo should stick to more country/eclectic-like music because Maisky outdoes him on ever level in the classical field.

  • @TheKoodoos what the fuck?

  • @frooben chill out its just my opinion :)

  • @TheKoodoos his facial expression certainly has

  • @TheKoodoos Seriously?! What about Rostropovich, which I find better to my taste. Simpler and more spiritual. And much more powerful.

  • Mischa Maisky, siempe maravilloso. Gracias mugge62.

  • i prefer when he plays the prelude a lit bit slower, but it's still amazing.

  • A performance for the ages! Thanks so much for uploading.

  • Yes roughrider789. Maisky is indeed one of the greatest Bach interpreters of today. Glad you like it too.

  • @mugge62 Maisky has a really unique and strong personality, he always finds how to express himself in any kind of music in his own way. But I'm sorry... to do that in Bach is not allways the right move, and he absolutely can't be named as "one of gratest BACH interpreters" ... for this naming there stand Anner Bylsma and other deeply baroque music understanding cellists, but not Maisky... He could be "one of greatest interpreters" status worth in many romantical pieces, but not there. :)

  • @eXtremexxx0

I don't understand why so many people frown upon emotion in Bach's music.

  • @NoiseOverMusic ummm, because it's hard?

  • @NoiseOverMusic It is emotion in the romantic sense but this is somewhat inappropriate to Bach's music. Years of listening to different editions can open one's ears to what is appropriate in Bach's music. Maisky's playing, over the years, has become more and more exaggerated and romantic. I fear he is losing his intuitive view of Bach's music that he once had.

  • What is quite wonderful about this performance is how modern (and Russian) the interpretation is.
