if you watch the bravo episode about their gate crashing, you can tell that they never had an invitation. An uninvited black couple would not have gotten in. An uninvited indian couple would not have gotten in. An uninvited Arab couple would not have gotten in. This is a legal and security shame on the entire country. If people like this can get away with this, then no wonder Lindsay Lohan can evade the system. Lady Justice is indeed blind and dead.
they didn't do anything wrong they were allowed in by whomever was guarding the door. They did not enter against someone else's will, and did not "sneak" into the state dinner. If anything I would fire the guard that let them in.
I applaud Rep. Pascrell he was in his right to ask those questions ... in the manner that represents his constituents... anyone to say that "felt they had a real right to attend?" if they we're were stopped at the WH Gates.. But they lied about being invited.... WTF??? Which is serious breach of security, is a clear violation of trust... And to do this as a front for a reality show... Do we blame it on Network!!!!???? I hope the Salahi's get convicted and put in Prison...
All they (the Senate / Secret Service) want , is details that would help us keep the white house secure not only for our politicians but foreign diplomats.
They KNEW they were doing something wrong. When you do something wrong then you had better be prepared for the consequences.
They should apologize, provide all info.
A man in Saudi Arabia swallowed C-4 and got in to see the royal family, the bomb was set off by someone on the outside calling him on his cell phone!
this guy makes no sense, for multiple reasons, but for one thing @ 1:03 he is supposedly contrasting "racial & ethnic" profiling with "these two people"....but he totally misses profiling target re: the primary terrorist threats we've been facing...they are not primarily "racial & ethnic" but *ideological* (& it just so happens that certain while not all or even anywhere near most Muslims are Arab, most Arabs are Muslims), & so with the Salahis, they'd fit the profile, b/c of Khalidi, etc
Congress law is a side of law I do not pretend to understand as I am a Tort law student. But it looks like all normal legal judicial procedure is out the window and an archaic witch hunt trial is underway, where are the white wigs? I do not understand what law was broken and what they are charged with? If in their position I would absolutely do the same claiming the fifth. Anyone has a right to walk up to an event to see what is going on.
Invited or not they were passed in...walked in...stood and pictures were taken of their entry. This was not a covert terrorist plot to cause harm. But even so...how can anything be found out in a one sided hearing of slanderous statements flying all over the map in a demonizing attempt...maybe they are witches.
Yes I can see it is embarrassing to the White House. But what if these people are telling the truth and felt they had a real right to attend? Do they have a right to appeal and sue for damages for unlawful arrest, harassment and prosecution? They claim their lives have been totally and completely destroyed over this. I don't see what the congress hearing accomplished other than to prove how outlandish and above the constitutional law congress has become.
They failed to check out Obama too and they have miserably failed America in every respect. Publicly grilling and prosecuting two supposed gate crashers (which has to be a misdemeanor at best) is how far these idiots have sunk. The world is watching...and all are laughing at us. The embarrassment is for our country.
@1951sk You're so right. Instead of this crap, turn your attention to protecting the president, you pompous NJ moron. so high and mighty, spending how much money on this? And to you goons here saying they don't have the RIGHT to exercise the 5th, what country are you nut cases living in?
@chisaoboy Don't forget the other earth shakingly important issue that they have to concentrate on, steroids in baseball. The world economy's in the toilet and these fools are worried about Roger Clemens cheating at d**n baseball!!!! Make me embarrassed to be an American anymore.
It's a sad state of affairs when a US Senator of all people doesn't respect the Constitutional RIGHTS of citizens. Let's not forget these people are INNOCENT until proven guilty... this little thing called the presumption of innocence that the legal system is based around!
A few points: Pascrell is not a Senator. He is a House Representative. If he didn't respect their rights, he would not be questioning them in a House committee. The Salahis took their presumption of innocence and pissed on it when they broke into the White House on camera, so the aforementioned innocence presumption is moot. They are very guilty. In this case, the legal system you are plugging is going to put them in jail, so better to pick another route, like the Fifth Amendment. That is fun.
He knowns! He is just hoping the rest of America doesn't.
In this way he can sound as if he is doing something by asking hard questions and then can do nothing because they don't answer.
Everyone knew that they won't answer any questions because they are facing jail time. So... it was a show which did nothing, except make the questioner look like they were trying to get to the truth.
Guilty or innocent, they have no reason to say anything and every reason not to.
It is not that he doesn't respect the rights; he doesn't respect what they do with their rights. Everyone knows they were there. To plead the fifth amendment to that question is a slap to all of us.
In past centuries they would have been executed for crashing a state function. In our great country, we would give them a slap on the wrist if they simply cooperated and helped fix what is broken with the system.
I hope they throw the book at them. Let's see how beautiful they come out of prison.
What right does congress have to badger them and grill them in this manner. In a real court of law that would have resulted in a judge stopping a lawyer from that line of questioning, but oh I forgot congress is above the law and can step on a person's right as they please. I don't agree with what the salahi's did but what congress is doing not just to them but to all the American people is far worse. I say we put congress on trial.
Congress has every right. In a court of law, these two tools would play the same Fifth Amendment card to defend themselves from the potential self-incrimination. While Congress is not above the law, their powers differ considerably from those given to members of the Judiciary. The courts do not deal with "internal" crimes against the State. That is why Congress has the rights it does. It is all about checks and balances, something the Salahis will soon come to find valuable in their defense.
These people are all thats wrong with America. Over pamper, rich, publicity hounds who think they should be allowed to break the law because they're rich.
So they didn't kill anyone. Right. But they did intentionally break they law and breech presidential security.
The problem is most people think if you get on TV you're great.
I would have pleaded the 5th too. Why? Because congress has nothing to do with it, it is a legal issue to be handled fair and correctly in courts. You people drive me crazy. I bet you think your show made you look good but it showed that you do not respect laws yourself or you wouldn't have made an issue of the 5th ammendments use. I disagree with what they did, but I love watching them piss you phoney do-gooders off.
Congress is responsible for the legal proceedings in a case like this. These two people are charged with violating federal mandates outlined to protect the State. They did not rob a bank, so we don't indict them in district court. They did break into the White House. The legal purview switches from the Judiciary to the Congress during periods of indictment. They answer not to the "peoples' court" because they did not violate the "peoples' law." Pleading the Fifth is all they can do. Hail Mary.
They should be publicly commended and lauded in Congress for the public service they performed in vetting the SS and exposing their incompetence or, maybe, wilful dereliction of duty.
I wonder how congress feels when people sit in front of them and tell lies? They do it in front of us all the time.

Rep Pascrell seems very unreasonable & presumptious here, imputing motives to the Salahis, rather shocking behavior on Pascrell's part imo.
