I have got a SR1 today... second hand. Used it at my work place before though. I have a tedious solution. I record in HD (SD can be edited in some programmes) ...then i record it to DV tape using another camera. Then i record it to computer and edit it like any other. I got the camera mainly for picture quality and mic jack.
I love my SR1 although it was a nightmare editing AVCHD until Premiere Elements 7 was released.
The focus ring disappeared in later models so I haven't thought to upgrade yet. The only disappointment is the slow motion feature - total crap! I don't know if they fixed it in later models.
Well I dont know how the canon HV30 performs but the sony HDR-SR1 is an older camera then the canon HV30. Quality is probably close just as the options. But its wiser to buy the newer camcorders cuz those are up to date and should work with all edit programs and pcs.
I cant edit any of my videos in windows movie maker, I spent over 2,000 and this cancorder and lens ext. Help me, Cause i am hating more that ever, i feel like smashing my it, NO JOKING, 2 years just been sitting around cause i cant do crap with it
Do you mean with "I cant edit any of my videos in windows movie maker": you cant get the files in windows movie maker or is it the programme thats the problem? Please explain. The camcorder is really fine, its sad that the video editing is such a big problem.
Ok in windows movie maker it will only let me edit the sound, It piss's me off 2 years i owned this camcorder, And i still can find a way to edit video clips and save them to my computer.....HELP
so can I capture straight to Premiere pro CS3 with this camera format? I have the same cam and want to use it with Premiere pro cs3. So far I am using the sony utility to convert to Mpeg2 then import into Premiere. Is this my only option?
Premiere Pro has a capture program. But you only use that for capturing films from miniDV tapes. If I filmed at HD quality i use the sony utility. If I filmed at SD quality i just copy all the clips to my pc without using the sony utility. But... I have premiere pro on my laptop wich runs on windows vista and if I import the movie clips into premiere it only imports the movie without the sound. But on my pc wich runs on XP it works fine.
Sony pinnacle seems to be able to import AVCHD. Im not sure thats possible cuz ive never used sony pinnacle. I also heard the programme isnt always that stable to work with.
VideoQuality is FullHD. As far as I know its the best video quality you can get at this moment. HDD makes it really easy and fast to upload ur videos. You might also like the slo-motion option(Looks real nice). The big problem of this cam is that if you are filming FullHD the files will be AVCHD files. Wich you will probably have to convert to mpg2 files if you dont have a edit program wich can work with AVCHD. Hope I informed you enough. =)
Dunno really. The hdr-sr11 is newer so it probably is a upgraded version of the old hdr-sr1. But if i compare the specifications the difference isnt that much.
how fast can the zoom go?

It's FANTASTIC during night time! I love it!
If you know of any cameras, better suited for night-shots, let me know! But your video sold me on light quality. :_)

I bought the sony HDR-SR1 for 750 euro. Not a bad price for the quality you get.
