The one alien says "Hey that hippie must really be out of it". I think its just that in the UK, shows like this - that push the boundries quite a bit become mainstream because our censors aren't as strict. Whereas in the US something like this would be ignored, and maybe go on to achieve cult status later on. The most popular US comedies are traditional family sitcoms. South Park is the only one I can think of that was completely politically incorrect but still popular.
