Hey ! Nice video. I'm a vegan. I work out and I need to gain muscle. Can you recommend things I can eat ..other than tofu. My trainer says that I should go for 80 grams of protien a day ...I'm trying to hold on to veganism.
Well, most people still hang onto the protein myth. In reality, amino acids are what build muscle and raw food is best for that . I'm not a body builder, but I believe it's lot's of sweet fruits that help you put on more muscle and doing the right kind of work out to put it on. Hope that helps some :)
Well I've heard that amino acids create proteins obviously and people say just eat amino acids and itll build muslce like eating protein, but not sure about it, I havent seen any proper professional huge vegan/raw food bodybuilders say 100kg+ weight (220+ lbs).
You want to by huge? Well, I'll have to look into it...I've seen pretty big raw bodybuilders like that, but they just load up on more of the same foods to produce the extra building materials. Most people are used to the aggressive "monster" meat-eaters, but yeah, better health and stamina comes from a natural diet :)
Well my aim weight is arouund 85kg-90kg (187lbs-198lbs) - im like 65kg (143lbs)now. Sadly not many protein rich foods that arent from animals/animal products ive found.
Well, for humans, protein isn't needed in the incredible amounts from corpses, which causes cellular breakdown and high acidity. Plants contain the correct ratio for us, so I would load up on more fresh foods...Avocados are my fav. because they are very rich in omega 3, vitamin k, protein, etc. so it takes care of a lot just in one meal, lol. It sounds as if perhaps you'd just rather be eating meat though.
Hope you're doing well. I see you made the vegan video and it's very good. I have maintained being veggie even though I get quite a lot of pressure to eat meat. I am find ing losing weight extremely difficult which is very frustrating. I'll let you know the other news sometime too on Judaism.
I think the way you eat doesn't always make you mature, lol. I used to be repulsed by that, but it's rude to tell people, especially if you put yourself in that situation to begin with :P
I diffently cut down my meat consumption after I joined weight watchers..
Before I would have a whole stake (probably around 24 weight watchers points) for a meal.
But now I would have roughly 6 points worth.. A drastic decline..
It is slightly maddening to me , how other people my age (21) act as though they would like to lose weight, But continue to eat like they do, and continue to be SOOO lazy.
Some probably eat as many calories I do in a day, in one meal.
Outstanding video Jayna! Great pace, graphics and information. I loved the soundtrack. Who is it?
I am struggling right now. I've been mostly raw vegetarian for several months, but am not familiar enough with food choices, etc. I also feel like such a refugee, not being able to eat all the foods I've enjoyed my whole life. (love affair with western food)
Any recomendations on lifestyle adjustment and culture/habit forming would be much appreciated.
When I've bought large amounts rich foods (avacado, raw nuts, etc) I don't have the cravings/temptations so bad.
Prep-time, prep-time, prep-time! When I'm in a hurry and hungry, I get frustrated, but having the mindset of "I'm worth it" and "this is a privilege" really helps. Any rec's on how to deal with all the work (washing, carrot juice, nutmilk, salads, spreads, slicing, dicing, etc!!!!) It feels like obsession. Last night, I just sat down and ate a whole cucumber!
Oh, one other thing. I am a Blood type O. So, Grains and Legumes don't do well with me. I have to stick to mostly just veggies. Tofu for protein.
I would say look at the "eat right 4 your blood type". You may be more tolerant of vegan diet because you are an Type A or AB. Us Os are having a hard time being vegetarians.
Oh yes, I bought that book quite a while back :) There is a big discrepancy about it, but I think there is some good info in there...tofu is best in small amounts because it's processed and does have fat....do you take dairy? I don't, but I still have a problem digesting kidney beans. I think there is also a geographical significance in what foods we can tolerate also.
Very cool video. I unfortunately take a b12 supplement. I am not getting enough Bcomplex in my diet because I run long distances ( 6-10 miles) per day.
I take it this mean you are a vegan? Just curious.
I myself am not a vegan, but eat very little meat. Mostly fruits, vegatbles, beans, fish and chicken.
I am very careful (as you so eloquently point out) to READ the ingredients in EVERYTHING! And try not to be "fooled" by what is "allowed".
Any fish I do eat is wild caught, and the chicken is either Kosher or antibiotic, antihormone free (which I think by law has to be. It may be just another marketing ploy).
Yes, I'm vegan :) I have respect for people who eat wild fish and care about the quality of what they're eating if they can. I just had to take it a step further and look into how our intestines are designed compared to other animals, etc...and what meat does to the human body. Peace :)

(keep on thinking of more to say)
I am not sure if I should feel bad for this or not..
A couple of years ago, one of my vegetarian relatives stated how disqusting she finds it when people eat meat..
So my knee jerk reaction was to play up how much I enjoyed a hamburger when I ate it..
On one hand, I feel like a jackass. But on the other hand, SHE STARTED IT(says it like a little kid)

I could see myself becoming a halve assed "vegetarian" for HEALTH reasons, but not for moral reasons..
Basically, cut out the red meats, but still eat fish, and I have been interested in entomophagy (I should go out and try to catch some dragonflys)

Couple more things...
When I've bought large amounts rich foods (avacado, raw nuts, etc) I don't have the cravings/temptations so bad.

Well.. I am not a vegetarian, however I joined weight watcher and I am losing weight and getting fit!
The number one advice I would make to ANYONE who is want's to differ from societies diet/norm..
IS at first people are going to make your change difficult. Most likely, they will taunt you and they will add extra temptations..
So you have to start to not care what they think about you. And EVENTUALLY they will give up on you, and purhaps even RESPECT you.

A personal example of this.
A friend of mine offered me a mountain dew (A non diet one of course) I politely declined. And he, of course, shoted back "To hell with your diet"..
So I calmly took the pop, and whipped it down the street. It shocked the hell out of him..
Months later, guess what, he is chubby, and I am slimming. He now comments on how slim I look :P
This is for YOU and not for anybody else, remember that.
"I'm worth it" Is right...

In a way, this video is also for people like me who are very sensitive to food. I can feel what everything does to me :P
