  • LOL was worth it just for the intro. The rest was a bonus

  • Nice tips Andrew. Did anyone ever mention you are a cross between George Lynch and my college Algebra teacher? Kidding. You rock man.!

  • Will this make me sound like Mick Taylor?

  • @brandonlace depends on how u use it my man, if you play really fast like him with some of urself in it, yah u will :)

  • is it a major or a minor? Excuse the dumb question, I'm still learning

  • @johnnychingas1000

    It`s mixolydian :-P

It`s a major scale, but with a b7 instead of the major 7!

  • @johnnychingas1000 there are 3 major modes of the major scale. Ionian (obviously), lydian and mixolydian. Dont confuse yourself too much and make things more complicated than they have to be. The easiest way I found to learn the modes was to understand that in essence every mode is just a slightly modified major scale. The 7th is flattened or the 4th is sharpened or w.e the mode calls for. That way in your mind you arent thinking you are learning a bunch of completely diff scales.

  • @sr1129 Oh I see. Thank ya

  • @sr1129 - nice one. I'm struggling to get my head around this at the moment. Your comment helps. This video is beyond me

  • sound like eric johnson

  • You are the best teacher ever!!

  • Oh my God..this is the greatest teacher!!!

  • listened to the intro three times before watching the rest

  • Solid vid. Many thanks!

  • id rather watch the beginning

  • we need moreeeee

  • In the Key D it's D E F# G A B C#. To make it D Mixolydian, lower the 7th note or in this case C# which becomes C.

  • Brilliant lesson. It was a big help to me, thanks very much!!!!! : )

  • Excellent vide. Well explained and easy to understand, thanks. Great playing at start too!

  • too much theory on that.. personally i believe that knowing all that staff and analyzing the chords and the scales doesn't make a great composer... just get your guitar and play whatever sounds right to you.. i see no point in trying to write a riff on some scale.. the main point is to write a good riff.. if it is a good riff none will give a shit about the scale or all that theory... I'm not saying that this video is bad or there is anything wrong in that..

  • @Mitraeltheprophet Well, at least it's there.

  • @Mitraeltheprophet You're so right man. I couldn't agree more...

  • I dont get how an am will fit in a progression with D as the key. Thats the 2 chord in the harmonized G scale. When you harmonize the D, am isnt in there. Can anyone explain to me how this would work theoretically? How can you play that when the key is D?

  • this gave me a headache, just like when i was learning piano as a kid.

  • For some reason, I keep going back to G major as the root chord. I don't hear the D mixolydian scale in there, just the G major. Weird. Either that, or it's really hard to write a riff in, say, D mixolydian that sounds like it's supposed to be in D.

  • @jb1563700 and @TheBakingpowder

D myxolydian has the same notes as G major. The difference is however that the music has a root on D, than on G. As Andrew said, try to keep the D prominent, for example have the bass guitarist just drone out a D the entire song, no matter what the chords. Then the D myxolidian scale makes much more sense.

  • @JDarkooJDarkoo

So, if Iim playing the D major scale, but i use A as the root, it will be an A Mixolydian?

  • @buopo Yes, perfect. If you use the 5th note of a major scale as the root, and keep using the notes of that scale, it will be mixolydian. In your case, the A is indeed the 5th note of the D major scale.

  • @JDarkooJDarkoo

ok thank you so much :) it now makes sense to me.

  • wat pickup you got fitted in the neck?

  • 2:32 why does G major happen to be in A minor?

  • at 2:03 shouldnt that be half dimished?

  • @ozzy9691 hes not using 7chords, only 3notes-chords, so it is a "pure" diminished

  • @KevenHyun ahhhhhhhh thanks dude

  • if you change the A maj for Am and the Cdim for C maj, Why an i still playing in the key of Dmajor and not G major?

  • Great job andrew.. can i ask u what camera u use to shoot ?? and what resolution.. it wud be gr8 fr me ..

  • thank you as always :)

  • Keep up the great work. I've learned so much from watching these videos. Thanks!

  • My thoughts are why this guy isnt on tour O.o

  • Thanks a lot. Now I'm going to go get out my old books and try to remember how mixolydian works.
