@johnnychingas1000 there are 3 major modes of the major scale. Ionian (obviously), lydian and mixolydian. Dont confuse yourself too much and make things more complicated than they have to be. The easiest way I found to learn the modes was to understand that in essence every mode is just a slightly modified major scale. The 7th is flattened or the 4th is sharpened or w.e the mode calls for. That way in your mind you arent thinking you are learning a bunch of completely diff scales.
too much theory on that.. personally i believe that knowing all that staff and analyzing the chords and the scales doesn't make a great composer... just get your guitar and play whatever sounds right to you.. i see no point in trying to write a riff on some scale.. the main point is to write a good riff.. if it is a good riff none will give a shit about the scale or all that theory... I'm not saying that this video is bad or there is anything wrong in that..
I dont get how an am will fit in a progression with D as the key. Thats the 2 chord in the harmonized G scale. When you harmonize the D, am isnt in there. Can anyone explain to me how this would work theoretically? How can you play that when the key is D?
For some reason, I keep going back to G major as the root chord. I don't hear the D mixolydian scale in there, just the G major. Weird. Either that, or it's really hard to write a riff in, say, D mixolydian that sounds like it's supposed to be in D.
D myxolydian has the same notes as G major. The difference is however that the music has a root on D, than on G. As Andrew said, try to keep the D prominent, for example have the bass guitarist just drone out a D the entire song, no matter what the chords. Then the D myxolidian scale makes much more sense.
@buopo Yes, perfect. If you use the 5th note of a major scale as the root, and keep using the notes of that scale, it will be mixolydian. In your case, the A is indeed the 5th note of the D major scale.
LOL was worth it just for the intro. The rest was a bonus

In the Key D it's D E F# G A B C#. To make it D Mixolydian, lower the 7th note or in this case C# which becomes C.

2:32 why does G major happen to be in A minor?
Ex0dUs12 1 year ago
at 2:03 shouldnt that be half dimished?
ozzy9691 1 year ago
@ozzy9691 hes not using 7chords, only 3notes-chords, so it is a "pure" diminished
