I got 3 emails from yt asking if I would please sign on as a partner. The third email stated that they had personally ckecked out my channel and they were wondering why I was rejecting the opportunity to become a partner... please fill out attached survey... etc...
I was pretty pissed off when they rejected my application 3 times in a row. So i sent them an email with screenshots and proof of the fact that i am viewed by thousands of people. So i agree with you 100%

I was pissed off when I made this video and just needed to step away from the site for a few days and regain my priorities and realize that in the end, it really doesn't matter. I actually have applied 2 addition times since this was recorded. At the time of this recording, that was my first application. The 2nd time I got rejected again immediately, the third time I haven't heard back from them in almost 2 weeks.
I actually record most of my videos using my built in webcam on my Mac, and then edit using iMovie. I'm in the market for a new video camera myself, and keep going back and forth between mini-DV and a hard drive camera. I'm in the dark too! :)

Dude what don't you understand about original or unique content, a talking head is neither I'm not trying to hurt your feelings...ask yourself the question what is unique and original about talking at a camera...listen, yes boobs get ratings and woman get jobs their not qualified for because men like woman. Thanks for the comment. I think I wouldn't have been upset, because I do get that it's all for the ratings. The reason I was so bothered is that so many other talking heads, with far less views or subs get the partner status. So to me, it's just an unfair use of the program. I think for me, the real payback is response I get from the community. The corp. folks have no clue what we do, and I guess after all is said and done, I'm kind of over that aspect of it.
Not sure how the partner thing works. I know that I only applied after I got an email asking me too. It seemed like a form letter that all Tubers that met a certain minimum criteria would've gotten.
It is fun having the banner and the auto player, but I see the partner thing being divisive where it need not.
(I think you're just too normal and happy and healthy for them. Reality television is all about backstabbing. Doing the right thing just makes one comfortably predictable. I say keep doing the right thing! :)

This is completely ridiculous. For those of us in the true YouTube community, VLOGGING is the kind of unique content we get here that we can't get anywhere else. The passionate and lengthy comments sections for most of your videos are clear evidence of how thought-provoking people find your videos and how much your unique viewpoints are valued. This is crazy. You should do videos for the love of it and the community you are engaged with and enjoys your vlogs. From what I can see the partnership program is not all that glamorous. There are much more important things in life to attend to. You can always try again, they are so arbitrary you never know what will happen, sort of like rolling the dice.
I find this disgusting, I really do. There is a young person in the UK who only has 2 videos, mimed playing a guitar and some typed thing that has just been made partner and its just not right or just when there have been some people who have slogged with hundreds of videos, still not allowed to join. Something really isnt right somewhere.

Perhaps youtube made an error when reviewing your application? As they rejected us they emailed us again a few days later asking us to reapply? Keep trying anyway, I have no doubt you'll make it eventually!!!

That's a kick. There are partners with no videos and with no subscribers! Take some time to get over the stupid e-mail (it's maddening) and think on what's important. For me, YouTube's a venue where I meet up with my friends for free. There're things I don't like/agree with but hey it's a free place to meet! don´t let it get you down. is it really so important that the organisation youtube loves your channel? WE love you!! all your subscribers love your vlogs and stuff and that´s important. nothing else. i know your videos are something special. and all your other subscribers know that too.
YouTube is: corporate, insensitive, inconsistent, greedy, capitalistic, divisive but also a great place with a great community of people. That's why vloggers stay here. It's the best interface out there at the moment, I like aspects of livevideo and revver, but YT still has the best interface, IMO. But they certainly need a big bucket of compassion dumped on their skanky selves.

They're right. Your videos aren't very unique. You're just some guy complaining about day to day things on video. YouTube has enough of that already. It wasn't interesting then and it's not interesting now. I don't blame them for wanting to weed out such crap from their public reputation.

I think all video bloggers have this problem too. Not just one. I see them talk about the power of online video communication and how they are part of some huge family and all I see are some guys talking to themselves while I'm trying to find something interesting to watch.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is both YouTube and the general public doesn't see the site the same way. To some people with way too much freetime, it's quite basically their life. The rest, it's a just a video website.

I could name a few, but won't. Looks to me like being a partner means you'd have to work pretty hard to be fresh, original and attractive (in some way) more or less every day. Not me. :-)

Head-in-the-box is a little insulting. There are many people who have no content on their channels. 806 videos does not make you an expert. It does mean you have A LOT of time on your hands.
I was turned down too, just after I had been featured in the UK!
Unfortunately I've deleted the email now, but they didn't give me a specific reasons but it sounded like it was to do with the number of views I get (or don't get). It also said that it would be reviewed in the future, but I'm guessing it was just a standard email. I've got an average of 2000 views per video, but I only have 200+ subs.
I'm wondering if some applications are just rejected automatically based on some criteria.
Gary, don't let YouTube's rejection get you down. YouTube is just a tool you use to reach others. You have friends here who watch your videos because they like you and what you have to say. Being a partner doesn't change that.

I wonder if it simply comes down to views. I applied and was accepted in 24 hours. But I have more views than you. YT may be telling fibs when they point to the originality of your material. This is UNBELIEVABLE! Crazy stuff and I am sorry for this. It is all about the bucks they can make from selling their ads, I mostly make travel vlogs and they accepted me (and I am far less popular than you!) so that they can post ads for hotels, flights etc. They are so transparent. Please don't let this put you off, we need you!:)
of your videos. I guess it might have worked against you that your videos are longer than average. They might figure that people can view more ads if they're watching shorter vids. Anyhow it's bullshit that they turned you down. You're TOTALLY worthy of a partnership. Like many here have already said, I think luck plays a large part in this. It's just the luck of the draw who reviews your application and what their preferences are.
Another thought as far as video length goes is *IF* they truly do review each monetized video they might figure that they can more quickly review shorter vids than longer vids. Reviewing longer vids would take more man hours and cost them more money. If that's their rationale then someone with longer vids would certainly be at a disadvantage no matter how good their videos were.
Well that sucks big time. It's unbelievable that they didn't approve you. You've got plenty of subscribers and you get plenty of comments and views. You're one of the best vloggers I watch here. This certainly leads me to believe that they favor entertainment type vids over vlogs which many people including myself have suspected. What does that *mean* in concrete terms? Good editorship is about explaining to people how to improve. Babble belongs in a circular file.
Why not say *what*? Eg: The cam is not high enough quality or we'd like to see more of this and less of that.

This is crazy. You should do videos for the love of it and the community you are engaged with and enjoys your vlogs. From what I can see the partnership program is not all that glamorous. There are much more important things in life to attend to. You can always try again, they are so arbitrary you never know what will happen, sort of like rolling the dice.

There is a young person in the UK who only has 2 videos, mimed playing a guitar and some typed thing that has just been made partner and its just not right or just when there have been some people who have slogged with hundreds of videos, still not allowed to join. That's a kick. There are partners with no videos and with no subscribers! Take some time to get over the stupid e-mail (it's maddening) and think on what's important. For me, YouTube's a venue where I meet up with my friends for free. There're things I don't like/agree with but hey it's a free place to meet! YouTube is: corporate, insensitive, inconsistent, greedy, capitalistic, divisive but also a great place with a great community of people. That's why vloggers stay here. It's the best interface out there at the moment, I like aspects of livevideo and revver, but YT still has the best interface, IMO. But they certainly need a big bucket of compassion dumped on their skanky selves.

I think all video bloggers have this problem too. Not just one. I see them talk about the power of online video communication and how they are part of some huge family and all I see are some guys talking to themselves while I'm trying to find something interesting to watch.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is both YouTube and the general public doesn't see the site the same way. To some people with way too much freetime, it's quite basically their life. The rest, it's a just a video website.

Agreed. As an aside: If you want views, you don't waste time makingg video responses to people who get 100 views. You make video responses to people who get thousands of views. You don't wait until the next day - by which time thousands have ALREADY seen it, you monitor the Big Guns and post *immediately* after they do. Sounds like hard work. I'm going for a lie down.

I can understand what they are trying to achieve. They will make partners of people who will attract viewers. So young women, really funny people, talented musicians, charismatic folk and "quirky" videographers will be top picks. They may also be suffering from having accepted too many really BAD partners. I could name a few, but won't. Looks to me like being a partner means you'd have to work pretty hard to be fresh, original and attractive (in some way) more or less every day. Not me. :-)

I was turned down too, just after I had been featured in the UK!
Unfortunately I've deleted the email now, but they didn't give me a specific reasons but it sounded like it was to do with the number of views I get (or don't get). It also said that it would be reviewed in the future, but I'm guessing it was just a standard email. I've got an average of 2000 views per video, but I only have 200+ subs.
I'm wondering if some applications are just rejected automatically based on some criteria.

Another thought as far as video length goes is *IF* they truly do review each monetized video they might figure that they can more quickly review shorter vids than longer vids. Reviewing longer vids would take more man hours and cost them more money. If that's their rationale then someone with longer vids would certainly be at a disadvantage no matter how good their videos were.
