Oh, not that much really. About 5-8K per run maybe? But then you have to teleport to the Agility Pyramid a lot to exchange the trinkets for gold.

It is the same exp. I tried both ways. Both are valid. Not checking for snakes is a tiny bit faster in a long run, but requires more food and more frustrating. I prefer checking for snakes. It all comes down to a personal style.
