  • Wow! Your video was very good! It was to the point and I was able to see exactly what I need to do. Thank you very much. I've been natural for 2 1/2 years and I am still trying to find ways to fix my hair. I love the look but I have not been able to recreate it. I will definitely try this and I will pass this on to others. Thanks so much for posting!

  • Many thanks! Nothing like a visual demonstration. :D

  • love the difference between two and three. I love yours better then what I have in my head lol. What song is that?

  • Great video! Taught me!

  • Nice job. Nice music. Who's playing?

  • This is a great tutorial! I'm going to share it with my friends. They've been asking about it. Well done.

  • thank you for taking the time to do this. I'm going to try it now.

  • Thanks so much for posting this vid! Only one person did the 3 strand technique but we did not click well. Now I know how to get that look back!

  • thanks for the vid!

  • Very good video!

  • OMG! I watched all of these different tutorials on 3 strand twist and still didn't know how to do it. Yours broke it down in one sentence. Thanks So Much! Had to subscribe

  • thank you for all the comments. i'm really bad at coming on here to see who has stopped by. i am trying to get back into youtube now that i have loose hair again. i've been locking for 2 years and didn't really have much to post about my hair.

  • "Bring the right strand over the left and middle strand"

THANK YOU. Those words right there made it so simple. Great video.

  • but isn't this the same as braiding?

  • i thought the same thing initially, but if you look close, it's really the look of a twist versus the look of a braid.

  • Wow, this technique is amazing! I can't wait until my hair is long enough to try it

  • am i the only one who has just heard of this??...i have been natural for the last 5 yrs! have always done 2 strand twists myself, i'm so anxious to try this now!! thx for the vid! but it already takes me 4 hrs to do 2 strands so- i have alot of hair..... hopefully i can move faster!

  • Same as platting?

  • Well I'll be...thanks for the tutorial...got it 1st try!

  • *sigh* no matter how I rewatch and triy, I can't do this. :(

  • this is soo hard!! i keep ending up doing braids.. any sugesstions lol

  • I usually do 2-strand twists. when I saw the title "3-strand", I had to see. I'm gonna try this. Looks like you do it the same way as a 2-strand, exept with an extra section. It seems like as long as you just take ALL sections the same direction, clockwise (or counterclockwise), you're fine! Shalom!

  • I don't know if you've gotten the hang of it yet, but I got it on my first try. All you do is basically move the hair in a clockwise direction, instead of weaving it like you would a braid.

  • wow. thanks so much! I had no idea theres was such a thing as 3 strand twist. Great tutorial!

  • My hair's so thick a two-strand twist looks like three-stranded twists. But i did always wonder how it was done! Very cool!

  • thanks so much for this tutorial!! I tried this for the first time and I love how it holds so much better than 2 strands. This will be my method for locs. Thanks again!! You are a Godsend!

  • that's what i wanna do. do u have tp put something in your hair first? like vaseline or oil or gel whatever to make it last long ?

  • Wow, two months and no reply, huh? Don't use mineral oil or petralatum based products on your hair. Bad stuff. Shea butter, coconut oil - natural oils are much better to use on freshly washed (damp) hair. My hair is a loose 3b and won't hold together without a gel. I love the Jamaican Mango & Lime, but I need something with a stronger hold. Lately, I've added got2b spiking glue over the mango & lime twist & loc gel. Godspeed!

  • lol thanks for the reply. But I just cut my hair. No more afro for me. Too much work. Good luck with your hair though !!!!

  • kool, that's what i want with my hair, looks cool on men too

  • Some time has passed and I now know how to do it and I am 100%. Thanks for the tutorial.

  • girll thank yuu!!

ikno how to do it now =)

    im so happy !!

  • hey how did you get yours to look so smooth and skinny. My hair is about the same length as yours and very, very thick. The twists come out nice but very fat and thick looking even when I think I'm using thin strands of hair. What kind of products are in your hair when you did this video?

  • i usually just use a leav in...i believe it was pantene at that time, but i can't remember for sure. i know i used aloe vera gel when i began twisting, so that my be what kept it smooth and "skinny" lol although they were rather fat as well. try using smaller sections too.

  • my hair is short about 2 half inches can it still be twisted???

  • if you are able to grasp your hair in the three sections i would assume you culd do the twist.

  • Thanks for sharing! I've tried these before and finally understand what I'm supposed to do! My two strand twists don't last very long, I may have hope with these!!

    Thanks again!

  • love it! hangs better than two strand and EXCELLENT for starting locs yourself.

  • so much work!!!!! rofl!

  • does this work in any sort of hair?

  • this is wonderful! i'm just learning about 3 strand twists so this is extremely helpful.

i especially love the comparison between the 2 strand and 3 strand twists at the end. thank you so much sis! God bless...

  • this really is a great video, hope you show finished look in another video!

  • Your hair is beautiful. May God bless you and keep you in 2009

  • Great tutorial! I'm gonna try these.

  • This has to be THE best three strand twist tutorial I have seen. I'm inspired now, next time I wash, I'm going to try these...Thank you!

  • I thought I know everything about twisting hair. not!!! this is beautiful. I started double twisting my hair into dreads but my hair is so soft. It's going to take me forever to get there. I like this video.

  • thanks for sharing that looks great gonna try it on my kid lolxx

  • WOW, that is so neat! I never saw this done, and always wondered how people do this. I'm not sure if it would be possible to do with my fine and straight hair, even with elastics on the end. Making several/many in the back and either tying them to eachother or arranging more systematically before pinning with bobby pins could make a real fun and more creative updo (for a prom or a night out?)!

  • awesome video and truly informative. Thanks so much.

  • This was a very good tutorial...thanks!

  • Thanx for this. Your hair looks so healthy!

  • Good video!

  • This is fantastic....I just cut my hair off, it used to be bra-strap natural...I can't wait to try it when my hair finally grows out!

  • This looks good. I wanna try this on my hair. What's the benefits of doing three-strand twists?

  • No, it's a twist honey. You don't alternate sides like you would with a braid. You keep pulling from one side. She shows the final result first. Which is a TWIST.

  • Couldn't agree more, this has nothing to do with a braid. This gives a rope-like look - really pretty! :)

  • Fantastic Tutorial! I was looking at other tuts to teach me how to do this style, and yours was the most informative! Thank you for sharing!

  • but they are for white ppl or just for black ppl???i mean is a big dif (the hair)

  • Everyone can do it but you might need to use rubber bands if you have light, less coarse hair.

  • It's not so much a matter of coarse vs fine. My hair is coarse, but the curl is about a 2c-3b...very loose. I just tried these for the first time (LOVE them) and I used got2b Spiking glue to hold it. I usually wear 2-strand twists. The 3-strand twists hold their shape a lot better. Today is Tuesday, I did my hair Saturday. Usually, by now I would start to see frizzies springing out here and there, but not this time. Thanks brebre83!!

  • Didn't even know those existed

    Yay they're cute!!

  • that looks really hard

  • thnx soooo much hun u r the only person who knows how to teach how to do that right!! thnx im gonna do it right now!!

  • real helpful thank you

  • I did it!!I love the tutorial!

  • I like the 3 strand better than the 2 strand twist, but could you show how the end result would look on someone that has relaxed hair please. Thanx

  • She can't show you how it looks on relaxed hair because obviously she doesn't have relaxed hair. How about instead of asking someone who has natural hair to show you what it looks like on relaxed hair, you try it yourself and see?

I'm definitely going to give this one a try the next time I do my hair. Thanks brebre!

  • msnicoleb74, I read your post a couple of times over and I really don't like the overtone. OBVIOUSLY, if I knew how to do it myself OR knew someone that does them also I wouldn't have had ask her, now would I. Thanx you have a wonderful day. :)

  • You can't do it on relaxed here!

  • thank ya maam

  • Thanks for the video! After I take my hair down, I'm going to try this.

  • VVERY helpful, thanks alot!

  • WOW! Thanx for this. I got the hang of it after a minute and a half of watching your video. Thumbs up!

  • that's great! i love the back ground music too. it makes it all movie like. i'm definitely going to have to try this.

  • I got it on the first try!!! These last so much longer than 2STs, and the twistout is nicer! Thanks for posting!

  • looks easy but hard at the same time.. lookin to get that done wit my hair cuz im tired of the braid and im not lookin to cut my hair any time soon

  • why can't you make a video doing someone else's hair?

  • because there aren't any other natural ladies around my area for me to do demos on.

  • This is a great demo. But it would be very helpful to have it in "slower motion" to get the technique down.

Can you post a slower version?

    Thanks!

  • Thank you for the video! I wonder if this will allow me to wash my hair more than once without matting. My twists will mat if washed more than once or twice. Maybe since this is a tighter weave, it will keep it from matting.

  • Thank you for this tutorial! I wanted to have the stability of a braid, but the ability to palm roll to maintain my locks...this was a great video

  • thank u so much for sharing...

  • i finally did it!!!! Thanks this will make my twists tighter

  • ive watched this over and over again and i finally got it after 50 million tries

  • It looks like braiding.

  • OMG. I think I did it. Its hard alittle difficult for me, tring to get step too but I kept playing it and I did it. Thanks.

  • Thanks...I'm curious to know how the 3 strand twist out look...I know it would last longer, the 2 strand twist looked flimsy next to your 3 strand twist :-)

  • Great video...my first attempt was not successful...I ended up braiding half and two strand twisting.... I will watch ur video until...I get it!!!!!

  • Wow! Best video by far that I've seen on the twist. I'm determined to learn how to do this. LOVE the MUSIC!!!!

  • Bre Bre, I never thought of this. Excellent video. I tried it sitting right at my desk at work (I couldn't even wait to get home) This si a great way for fatter twists that won't unravel as easily. Thanks.

  • Thank you I loved this I got it quick!

  • great video! I have to add this to my list of styles!

  • THIS IS SOOO GR8!

trying to do it... this is me:

    "OMG! I DONE....oh, no, no...its just a plait"

    lol

lovely hair by the way. i bet locks looks gr8 on you

  • Oh this was QUITE the business... I had been trying to figure out a new style for my hair, and TA-DAH!!! this is easy, and pretty, and I like this better than the 2 strand twist... Thanks for the great tutorial!

  • Great job, great music. My only problem was the lighting.

  • thanks...this was my first video so i know there are things that need to be fixed. i didn't have enough light in the room i was in even when i put a lamp directly overhead.

  • wow..i want to try this.Good video!!

  • my hair wouldnt stay swtist! when i release my hands it just twist right bk, help?

  • did you use anything to hold the ends? i added conditioner to my ends. i'm not sure why they won't stay twisted.

  • hey ma!!!this is suppossed to be a tutoriol!!!yours looks like the most decent one on hear for 3-strand twist..BUT..you started off slow..and then you started haulin ass..you should do another one..and stop puttin up the messages on the screen...the last one messed me up on how youFIRST started twisting it...!!you started off slow, and then hauled ass!!!go slow down the whole thing!!!

  • Thank you

  • Thanks...I get it now! I wish I could see the end result though.

  • yea, i know it needs better lighting. it was just something i put together at 2 in the morning. it's kinda hard to film yourself on a digi cam and have everything perfect. i can't redo it since i am now locking my hair so for those who it worked for, great i hope you all have plenty of great hair days ahead. for those who didn't get it from the video beacause of the speed or the lighting, sorry. maybe someone else can give you a better tutorial.

  • great tutorial!

  • it does need better lighting, but i think i see how it's done

  • can u do this on relaxed hair?

  • i've never tried it out. i think it would work fine. just would be a bit smaller.

  • Do u think u cud go like a litlle slower.. or better yet with more captions, cuz i know how to start it off but thats it =[

  • yea, sorry. can't redo it now. my hair is locing and i don't have any model heads.

  • r yu slow or sumthing?

she did a great job with showing us how to do it.

watch it again and try to figure it out.

  • These are so pretty!

I think I get it. Instead of interlocking them together to form a braid, you are just twisting the sections around each other like a merry go round.

  • Needs better lighting

  • hmmm...might have to try this one! thanks!

  • Thanks! I practiced until I got it! You are a lifesaver. The 2 strand twists were not coming out pretty anymore and I was at my wits end. Your video is great, although you need more lighting. Thanks again!

  • This is really cool. I didn't realize you could twist with 3 strands!!!!!

  • I did these on my hair and then took them out and they created the prettiest little ringlets!!! My hair is kinda kinky so I don't naturally have loose curls, but it looks so cute when it do the twist-out!

  • wow nice!!!! I want to try this on some one! can you add fake hair?

  • Hi please can you do this slowly I have attempted a number of times to do it but still cannot grasp it...

  • I didn't know it was so easy! I was always confused when I heard "three strand twist" I was like, Isn't that just a braid? lol now I understand!

  • Thanks so much for the helpful tutorial. Do you think I can do this with yarn twist?

  • yes, yes, yes you can!!! i did a sample one and it was gorgeous!!!

  • lovely I was about to ask what the difference was but it looks like the 3 strand twist would last longer than the simple 2 strand

    Cheers!

  • hey everyone, sorry i don't check back here more often, but thanks for all the comments. i'm happy to share this with everyone. and i hope you all enjoy your new twists!!!

  • I thought it would be the same as braids, but that is cool.

  • Great tutorial! I saw this over on Nappturality. What do you use on the ends?

  • i use fote aloe vera gel

  • Yeah and it doesnt unravel this way...thanks!

  • thats was cool, thanks

  • Thank you, thank you! I really want to learn how to look after my natural hair better. Thank you for sharing this for free. Stylist will always have their place but its great if we also learn how to create styles ourselves. Do you have any more styles to share?

  • I would like to THANK YOU for sharing this technique free of charge. If more of us knew how to do our own hair instead of relying on stylists more of us might actually have hair on our heads.

  • AND more money in our pockets!!!!

  • good job the three strand twist is hot Im a natural stylist nd you should be selling that technique don't give it away

  • I'm glad she's not greedy and willing to share FREELY

  • Wow, thank you for the tutorial
