Their languages may not be as sophisticated as our human languages, but they are still languages in that they convey messages to other creatures. Birds and whales produce music of a kind. That is why their languages are known a birdsongs and whalesongs. The Australian Lyrebird is capable of flawlessly reciting just about any piece of music you could possibly imagine.

I fail to see how the unique qualities of mankind prove the existence of a God. All of the features you discussed: abstract thought, propositional language, "dominion", have not been observed in any other species. This does not mean it could not, or that it needs to be designed. Just because certain people can not wrap their heads around the odds of a particular sequence of reproduction, mutation and natural selection resulting in our current traits, does not mean God is a better explanation.

Oh it's much more than just random mutations because while the mutations may be random, the environment in which they change the phenotype and therefore whether they get passed onto the next generation very definitely isn't random.

We have a lot of DNA that doesn't appear to have function so unless a mutation there switches an old gene on, it will have no effect. As for wings, my biology is a little rusty but from memory, flight has evolved independently in birds, reptiles, insects and at least twice in mammals and in many cases such as Archaeopteryx, we have the intermediate fossils and can see advantages at each stage.
You don't need to be a Christian to understand unconditional love. I love my children unconditionally. The difference is that I won't allow them to be tortured eternally for breaking one of my rules. And yes, love IS a chemical reaction. BUT...that doesn't make it any less real than any other chemical reaction. Christians seem to think that love must not be real if it's just a "chemical reaction". It doesn't need to come from God to be real.

We feel the need to explain things we don't understand. THAT is why some use a deity to explain things like lightning. That's why we used a god to explain things like plagues. We know better now. Using a higher power, we now know, just isn't necessary.

Have you ever studied sociology? I'm guessing not. Plenty of societies throughout history weren't very keen on the idea of covering your body in clothing. People do now for multiple reasons, the first of which is obvious; protection. Another big reason though is sexual repression; something the Bible is a big fan of. It has nothing to do with the fictional event you refer to as 'the fall', but all to do with society.

The New Testament does not involve a theocratic nation like Israel but a called out group of people that are among the nations. I fail to see how the unique qualities of mankind prove the existence of a God. All of the features you discussed: abstract thought, propositional language, "dominion", have not been observed in any other species. This does not mean it could not, or that it needs to be designed. Just because certain people can not wrap their heads around the odds of a particular sequence of reproduction, mutation and natural selection resulting in our current traits, does not mean God is a better explanation.

Oh it's much more than just random mutations because while the mutations may be random, the environment in which they change the phenotype and therefore whether they get passed onto the next generation very definitely isn't random.

@theist77 Most mutations are neither positive nor negative as they have no effect on the phenotype. We have a lot of DNA that doesn't appear to have function so unless a mutation there switches an old gene on, it will have no effect. As for wings, my biology is a little rusty but from memory, flight has evolved independently in birds, reptiles, insects and at least twice in mammals and in many cases such as Archaeopteryx, we have the intermediate fossils and can see advantages at each stage.

You don't need to be a Christian to understand unconditional love. I love my children unconditionally. The difference is that I won't allow them to be tortured eternally for breaking one of my rules. And yes, love IS a chemical reaction. BUT...that doesn't make it any less real than any other chemical reaction. Christians seem to think that love must not be real if it's just a "chemical reaction". It doesn't need to come from God to be real.

You forget that along with being unconditionally loving, God is JUST, RIGHTEOUS, and HOLY and justice demands justice's judgement... Have you ever studied sociology? I'm guessing not. Plenty of societies throughout history weren't very keen on the idea of covering your body in clothing. People do now for multiple reasons, the first of which is obvious; protection. Another big reason though is sexual repression; something the Bible is a big fan of. It has nothing to do with the fictional event you refer to as 'the fall', but all to do with society.

The New Testament does not involve a theocratic nation like Israel but a called out group of people that are among the nations. Other laws like the 10 commandments and laws concerning sexual sin remain...laws that were not specifically for Israel, again, which were instituted because of the nations around them and the idolatry that was going on there.

Human beings (homosapiens) are apes, which are a subset of monkeys, which are a subset of primates which are a subset of mammals etc.. Dogs are at the end of the one of the many branches of the group carnivora (see Falsifying Phylogeny by Aronra for more on that if you are interested). Back on track; since domestic dogs evolved with humans they have gained many of our social traits.

@AronRa You are suppressing the objective moral standard...the Bible is love but you cannot see past the judgment that is required by God upon man to see the love. It's there. Loving enemies has nothing to do with Chemistry...Man is utterly unique from animals and denial of that fact is, most definitely...DENIAL. I am sorry for your loss. Happy New Year

@JamesJon1187 Nobody needs a sneak peak into a world without objective moral standards; we already live in one. Studying sociology or ethics at the most basic of levels will teach you about varied moral standards among different societies and groups. Not to mention the fact that even supposedly objective moral standards, such as the Bible's, have changed quite a bit over the last few thousand years. For instance; it's no longer acceptable in most of the world to kill someone for being a witch.
