  • So at the beginning the annotation says "if you're using a laptop", but later you say it doesn't work with a laptop. Explain? sorry if this is a stupid question. ty for the video.

  • @HNBCoverurheadlosa In the video I was saying a very generalized statement that it won't work on Laptop's because most laptop's don't have USB 3.0 or a fast enough chipset. If yours does, then it should work, but you'd be better off asking Black Magic than you would me.

  • If i use component inputs (from my ps3) and HDMI output to my monitor, will the display and recording still be of the same quality as if i had used a HDMI input?

I would appreciate a response from anyone very much. Thank you.

  • @Vaatiel The display and recording will be whatever quality you set your PS3 to, whether it's 720p or 1080i. You can only go as high as 1080i with component. It does look the same though, yes.

  • I am Brazilian, I have a plate of that! and wondered, as I record via hdmi on my ps3?

has a lock because of HDCP you could do a video tutorial ..

  • it also says on my brand new tv that the mode is not supported though it has hdmi inputs and everything and is a 1080 tv

  • im not getting a signal on my tv or on media express. i have a new computer and am using hdmi. Its also saying it cant find a USB 3.0 host controller even when i have everything plugged in

  • @d34m0nh3 Does your computer actually have USB 3.0 though? Look for a blue USB port at the back of your case.

  • @SpaceTopGames yes which is weird cuz i have the picture on my tv now after i messed with the settings but not on my computer. it still says that the host controller cant be found. i have 2 ports on the back, my computer is pretty new it has the NVIDIA Geforce GTX 560 Ti card and i've allready updated it but still nothing

  • @d34m0nh3 You might have a different USB 3.0 controller then, search "USB 3" on your computer and see if any other controller pops up. If not I can't really be of much help.

  • It uses your thunderbolt port

  • They have a mac version on the website

  • Why won't this work for an iMac?

  • @ImScreenPlayy If your Mac has Thunderbolt you should be fine with the Mac version of this card, otherwise it needs USB 3.0 or an open PCIe port which, as far as I know, most Macs don't have.

  • my dell xps 702x can handle it

  • I have a iMac. So basically I can't use this on it to record gameplay from my xbox. There's no there way?

  • @Azian2DaMax There's a Mac version that uses Thunderbolt so if your Mac has that then you should be fine

  • does this work for mac(not laptop, sense i am using the elgato capture card right now, and i am saving up for this for the hd quality. Please answer.

  • @midwaybear There's a Mac version that uses Thunderbolt so if your Mac has that then you should be fine

  • @SpaceTopGames ok, but does this one work on mac or does it Have to have the thunderbolt.

  • @midwaybear No Macs up to now have USB 3.0 so yes, you'll need the Thunderbolt version.

  • @SuperToyotaLexus You'll need the Thunderbolt version.

  • @SpaceTopGames Exactly what I said.

  • Just wondering... What is with the cap card that will not let it capture on a laptop because I have a laptop and that is where I do all of my capturing

  • @KaosInfedel Most laptop's don't have a fast enough chipset or USB 3.0, and it's just not as good capturing on a laptop as it is on a desktop. If you have a new fast laptop with USB 3.0, you might be able to use this card.

Laptop's also don't have PCIe ports for use, so you can't use the Intensity Pro.

  • Will it work on Dell Insperation, it windows7 has USB 3.0 and intel core i7

  • @MW2PlayerGuy If it's a relatively new computer you should be fine

  • why wont it work on a Laptop?

  • Can you output HDMI from your ps3, and input into the tv with HDMI too?

  • @MW2PlayerGuy You cannot use HDMI for the PS3's input, you have to use Component. You can use HDMI output though.

  • @SpaceTopGames so from your ps3 to the device, you have to use component? and from the device to the tv you can use HDMI?

  • @MW2PlayerGuy Yes

  • uh... is x58 required? or would a newer chipset work aswell? like p67 (lga2011 socket)

  • @Zpedobear x58 or newer is required, P67 will work especially if it's a 2011 socket.

  • i can't use hdmi if i have playstation 3 ?please someone help me

  • @MgAmEs099 you can't record with HDMI for PS3 unless your recording device has a bypass for HDCP copyright laws

  • @MgAmEs099 The PS3's HDMI is HDCP, which basically means HD Copyright, which the Black Magic cannot and will not record. You can use Component input and HDMI output though.

  • Will this not work at all with USB 2.0?

  • @UntitledBroadcast no, its too slow

  • @SuperUberDeluxe Okay! :)

  • neat watch

  • I hate playing on Component with my PS3 it is a noticeable downgrade form using HDMI, Is there a option what so ever to record HDMI with the PS3? I guess we got screwed by Sony, but at the same time their intentions were good.

  • @IsLaNdAh670 You can't record with HDMI, no. I couldn't actually tell a difference between HDMI and Component, but I only ever played in 1080i.

  • you sound like your jaw is locked together XD

  • Would this work on my Alienware m18x Laptop? This is its specs tell me if u need more specs and i will repost more

    usb 2.0 and usb 3.0.

    processor: intel(R) core(TM) i7-2920xm cpu @ 2.50Ghz 2.50Ghz over clocked Turbo boost to 4.0Ghz 8Mb Cache.

Installed ram (16gb) DDR3 dual channel at 1333Mhz

    64bit windows 7 ultimate

display adapters: AMD Radeon HD 6970M

    Hard Drive: 512GB RAID 0 (2x 256GB) Solid State Drive SATA 3Gb/s (I have a external 1tb HDD aswell)

i can run battlefield 2 on high.

  • @COSMICxiZxSICK The specs are good enough, but I don't know if the laptop has the correct chipset. Ask Black Magic Support if you can, they'll be able to tell you for sure.

  • @SpaceTopGames Alright thanks man i will try to contact them then and ask if its supported with my laptop thanks for the reply :)

  • @SpacetopGames Is it playback on the black magic? like, you can just have your blackmagic on, and then playback and record the things you want?

  • so, i have a xbox, can i just put the HDMI in and HDMI out?

cuz my monitor doesnt have the component hdmi cables...

  • @Muiismat yes you can

  • @Muiismat Yes

  • @SpaceTopGames if you only plug in the hdmi in and hdmi out, will that record audio or do you also need to plug in the audio cables?

  • @DarkWolfFlow Audio goes through HDMI so you won't need to plug in audio cables

  • Are the file size big when you are recording with the black magic?

  • @DezaOG Very. I use a 1TB external and have filled it up multiple times with recordings, which usually means it's time to render them so I can have my space back.

  • @SpaceTopGames wow.. how big do you think a 1 minute file are?

  • @DezaOG Not everyone records a 1min file..... I recorded for 2 hours and took up 80GB

  • @FlaminGinjaNinja Then the files are not that big : ) Thanks for reply! :)

  • y won't it work on a laptop?

  • So do u have to plug it into a laptop or desktop?

  • @legoNerd01245 If your laptop has USB 3.0 and a suitable motherboard chipset, it could work on a Laptop but I wouldn't count on it. If your desktop has USB 3.0 and an x58 motherboard or newer, you plug it into that.

  • what if i have a laptop that has two usb 3.0 ports and has 2x 6770 hd ?

  • @XxShooterKidxX ...is it even possible to have 2 graphics cards in a laptop

  • @SpaceTopGames point is can it work on it?

  • @SpaceTopGames does it work with x64?

  • lol jk I love u man thanks for these vids I subbed! ^_^

  • @2kProdigy2k If you want to support me sub to my channel "mario11168" since this one is going to be dead and only be used for these 3 tutorials I've uploaded, until I update them at a later time.

  • OMG its Kermit the Frog!!!

  • I got a brand New vaio Sony laptop 6gb ram y won't it work on a laptop or tell me one that works with a laptop that records 1080p

  • @dogcatmousehouse3 You could try the Hauppauge HD-PVR with a laptop, but it only records up to 1080i, but same with the Pro and Shuttle.

The Shuttle requires USB 3.0 and a fast enough chipset on your motherboard. The Pro requires an open PCIe port, which laptop's don't usually have.

  • whats better... intensity pro or the intensity shuttle?

  • @GamePlayUK If you're 100% sure your computer can handle the Shuttle go for the Shuttle, it's easier and better. If you aren't sure if it can use it, or are sure it cannot, then go for the Pro, it's practically the same but a little more complicated to install.

  • What is a better one, the internal pci or the shuttle, i really like the shuttle because its simple clean, and it has more connections, my pc can totally handle the pci one but what is a better one for me?

  • @T3mporaryGold If you're 100% sure your computer can handle the Shuttle go for the Shuttle, it's easier and better. If you aren't sure if it can use it, or are sure it cannot, then go for the Pro, it's practically the same but a little more complicated to install.

  • can i use hdmi input + hdmi output + audio output for use with a monitor without speakers. sorry for my bad english

  • @Mxrck Your English is good.

I believe you can set the settings in the Control Panel to have HDMI Input (for audio and video) and HDMI output for Video and RCA Analog for Audio, if that's what you need.

  • The one on the computer I have a hp dv7

  • where did you buy your intensity shuttle do they sell em at best buy ?

  • @xRBvClan Amazon is where I bought mine

  • darn i have an Imac

  • for my set up i have my xbox and ps3 going through a yamaha amplifier, all through HDMI. could i take the HDMI output cable from my amplifier and put it into the input on the intensity shuttle, than put an HDMI out put from the shuttle to the TV?

  • @m09c14 You might have to do it with only one console at a time, but that should work if it shows up on your TV. I can't make any guarantees for the PS3 though.

  • so can you capture native 1080p with the hdmi??

  • @1tach1m4ng3ky0u I've never been able to capture more than 1080i with either of the cards, but the Shuttle has the capabilities of recording 1080p (probably for DV Camcorders)

  • @spacetopgames All you need to do to record HDMI with a PS3 is to have some sort of coverter or splitter. I use an HDMI splitter to put my output to my HDMI monitor and then to my capture card. Works like a dream.

  • @Phatern so if i bought an hdmi splitter i can play on HDMI cables only? and how can tell excatly how to use em please?

  • @TheQueenYuliaBeckham Well I have my ps3 and it uses HDMI out. The HDMI cable goes to a splitter so that cable goes in, and has two HDMI out spots. And then one of those cables goes to your monitor if you want and the other goes the Black Magic or whatever you're using and then the USB into the computer. Since the signal goes through the filter it works for some reason, no idea why.

  • were are the ports? :)

  • @Fusionquinny13 The ones in plain sight on the capture card, or the ports on the computer, or what?

If you don't know the ports I'm talking about, you'd be better off asking Google before trying to get into capturing.

  • Hello! I use to record with USB Dazzle and mine stopped working cause i have a new laptop which is Windows 7. I came up across this. Will this work on ALL gaming systems? I will be recording on Wii. Think you can help or me tell me if this device is good for me?

  • @MrstartjOfficial Maybe you could listen to the video.

  • @SnoweyMan111 I did. But i dont quite understand it. Thats why i need some help.

  • @MrstartjOfficial Well what your comupter needs is to fit the specifications (check the description). Anything better than that is ok. My PC is a 5 year old budget-gaming PC. That's about my specs, except I have 2GB's of ram.

  • @MrstartjOfficial I don't know what you mean by "gaming systems." If you mean capturing, it should work with any system, I use it for the Wii and 360 constantly, and previously for the PS3.

Unless your laptop has USB 3.0 with a chipset newer than x58, you won't be able to use the Shuttle or the Pro. You would be better off trying the Hauppauge HD-PVR.

  • @SpaceTopGames Ok thank you.

  • @DaAspecT you must use your Component Cable from your PS3 to this Device, you can set the Quality to 480 and lots of other sorts...

  • > (continued) Do you know whether the Black Magic Intensity Shuttle ThunderBolt version works for PS3 game and recording it into iMac, or does the HDCP prevention occur? Thanks. :)

  • Hello, I'm looking into a HD recording device for PS3 gameplay, apparently PS3 has a HDCP prevention which stops people from digitally recording PS3 footage. I've heard that the Hauppauge HD PVR tackles it's way out of the HDCP prevention, meaning that will work. Although Black Magic Intensity emailed me about the Intensity devices not being able to work due to the HDCP. First of all, I'm using an iMac, and looking into the Intensity Shuttle ThunderBolt version to record PS3 gameplay >

  • @PuppetBoyHD HDCP basically means HD Copyright, which is an encrypted signal and stops all (legal) devices from recording like DVRs, capture cards, or cable boxes. Since the PS3 has this, you CANNOT use HDMI to record. You HAVE to use Component for the Input, but you can also use HDMI output in case your TV doesn't accept Component.

  • @SpaceTopGames Oh right, thanks for your reply. What actually happens if you attempt to record with HDMI input then? And by Components, do you mean RBG colour inputs? ;) What's the maximum definition for these colour components, 1080p? Also 1080p and 1080i definition are the exact same resolution and pixels? Thanks.

  • @PuppetBoyHD It will most likely be a black screen if you attempted to record with the PS3's HDMI.

Component is Red Blue Green and Red/White audio. For Component, the max resolution is 1080i. 1080i and 1080p have the same pixel resolution of 1920x1080.

  • @SpaceTopGames Ok, thank you so much for your help! So overall, for iMac, would you consider me getting the Black Magic Intensity Shuttle ThunderBolt version, for recording PS3 gameplay? There isn't anything else I need to know about it? :)

I'm going to subscribe to you, you're very helpful.

  • @PuppetBoyHD That should work fine, ThunderBolt is faster than USB 3.0 so I doubt you'll have any problems whatsoever with the Shuttle.

  • If I have just one HDMI input in my monitor I can run the blackmagic to record a PS3 gameplay?

Sorry for my bad English, I'm italian xD

  • @MGleonida300SPARTA You have to use Component inputs for the PS3, but you'll be able to use HDMI outputs.

  • @SpaceTopGames Ok thanks!

  • Is The Intensity Shuttle 1080 ???

  • @Scrovey It can record 1080i for the 360 and PS3

  • if you have HDMI input in the black majic, how do u watch the game on ur TV?

  • @Luigi338 Through the Output, it sends the signal to the card then back to your TV so you can play and record at the same time.

  • I have the same computer

  • Comment removed

  • in my opinion i think the black magic looks better, has better quality then the pvr but the pvr is cheaper to use and you don't need a very good desktop thats not dell/ certain hps also you can use a mac on a pvr so i think the pvr is better

  • @TheModernGamer1998 I have no idea what you mean by the Dell/HP thing, but the Intensity Pro can be used on Macs that aren't iMacs or Macbooks.

  • @TheModernGamer1998 but u cant play with hdmi

  • Would this let you livestream your gameplay? Or does the software only let you record. Using manycam etc on the preview also isn't an option. Thanks.

  • @CssFrozen I've never livestreamed but I know people with this card who have, so it's obviously possible. I won't be able to help with it, but I might make a general guide soon since so many people are asking about it.

  • My monitor is conected to my pc and xbox, Pc via DVI and Xbox via HDMI, My monitor has 2 HDMI port, will i be able to run use the Black magic intensity pro PCIe on my monitor?

  • @SandForLife Yes with HDMI inputs and outputs, or even Component Inputs and Outputs. You'll have to keep switching between DVI and HDMI when you're recording, so you can record on your PC then switch to play on your Xbox, then back to the PC to stop recording, but that's only a minor annoyance.

  • you cant have hdmi input for ps3 is that what you said?

  • @TheK1llerNacho To capture with, you cannot use HDMI. You can use Component Inputs and HDMI outputs though, incase you have an HDMI-only TV or monitor, or something of the sort.

  • Can you have on the ps3 component in then hdmi out?

  • Comment removed

  • Bought this capture card 2days ago and this works flawless, the quality on this thing is amazing. I have read a lot of horror story's on the Internet about this card not being compatible with systems etc. All I can say to them guys is read before you buy! You can't expect to pick this thing off the shelf and assume is works like a dazzle. You have to have the right specifications/Hardware as Black Magic requires you to.

  • @SpaceTopGames

I have a new dell xps laptop with hdmi output and usb 3.0. would this work?

  • @Naaabes Ask Black Magic and send them the model of your laptop.

  • @SpaceTopGames thanks

  • No u dont i have this product and i record using hdmi bothways with my PS3

  • @swapfire242 Which one? Any PS3 I've ever tried has HDCP and the Shuttle won't capture that. I don't know if it's different with the new Slims or not, but it never worked on the Fat.

  • I have a laptop with an hdmi cable input so I can connect an hdmi to my laptop. Would that overlook the inability to use a laptop?

  • @killshotgamer That doesn't make any difference since you still need a computer that can use this card. The Shuttle needs USB 3.0 to be able to record, if your laptop doesn't have that then you can't use it.

  • @SpaceTopGames my laptop has a usb 3.0 port. That would cause it to work, right? The thing I don't comprehend is why did you say it wouldn't work on laptops. Were you referring to the fact that the majority of laptops don't have usb 3.0? Were you just using that as a stereotype of laptops saying that it won't work because the majority of laptops don't have usb 3.0? I mean, mine has one port so I'm assuming it will work. If I have the usb 3.0 port, would you suggest I buy the shuttle?

  • @killshotgamer Mostly because laptop's are generally terrible for this kind of computer-intensive thing, and most laptop's don't have USB 3.0 yet. You'll want to ask Black Magic if your particular laptop model can use the Shuttle, as I won't be able to tell you for sure.

  • @SpaceTopGames thanks for the help. Most people who get a large amount of views don't usually respond to all the questions they get. My laptop is made for editing/recording so I'm hoping it will work. I plan on asking them because I really do need an HD capture card. Thanks for your help

  • @SpaceTopGames my laptop is a toshiba portege R835-P55X I'm not sure if it is compatible but I doubt it is. Any help would be great

  • Can the shuttle multi-output to more than one tv? IE selective if I have one output going component to one tv, and HDMI outputting from the shuttle to a separate TV, can I select which screen to output the display to? Same question goes for the inputs (Different consoles inputting via HDMI and Component.)

  • @TheOriginalCP9 Yes, it can have all the cables and connections going through it at once, but it won't be appearing all at once. If you had an Xbox with Component inputs and also HDMI and Component outputs, you would have to set in the Black Magic Control panel which Output and Input it uses.

Meaning, to see the Xbox, you could only have one signal selected at a time.

  • @SpaceTopGames Thanks. I have two more questions, how long is the stock USB 3.0 cable and is the viewfinder on the software when everything is connected up properly real time? Meaning what you see in the game and what you see on your PC screen, are they in sync or how much of a delay is there?

  • @TheOriginalCP9 It's around 3 feet I think, I've never measured. There is no noticeable lag on the Preview screen from the normal Console screen, at least from what I can tell.

  • I have an AMD 790x chipset. Will this work?

  • @oFallenDemono You'll be better of asking Black Magic, I don't know anything about AMD chipsets

  • component i will watch it again but with the wii there is only composite how do you get component? you had component and 2 composite

  • @lightningchicken12 The Red and White cables are standard for Stereo Audio, they come with Composite or Component. You can buy Component cables separately from Walmart or any other major store that sells console cables, or online. Look for ones that are made for the Wii.

  • ok i have them cords but how do i hook them up?

btw thank you for your help so far

  • @lightningchicken12 Composite or Component? I wouldn't use Composite, this doesn't capture that signal right for some reason. If you're using Component, I'm 99.99% sure I explained it in the video.

  • how do you get 5 cords from the wii i only see 3 red yellow and white

  • @lightningchicken12 The cables that come with the Wii, Yellow Red White, are Composite cables which can only be used for Standard Definition (480p). The ones I used are Component Cables, which have Red Green Blue and Red White (Red White is the Audio). The Red Green Blue cables allow for video up to 1080i HD, and they work really well for capturing 480p or 480i from the Wii.

  • My laptop has a USB 3.0 port so what is the problem? And also will it work on a MacBook pro?

  • @videogamehakker1121 Your chipset might not be good enough, but you might be able to. Ask Black Magic if you can, and send them the model of your laptop, they'll be able to tell you. I mostly said it won't work on laptop's because most people don't have USB 3.0 laptop's yet.

  • my laptop has better specs than then minimun and has usb 3.0 so i could use this right

  • @Devdog1618 You might be able to. I don't know much about laptop chipsets, but if it has USB 3.0 you could go for it. I'd ask Black Magic first just so you don't waste time.

  • 1 minute in. "this will not work on an iMac"

    Why do you hate me?

  • i live in canada

  • @lightningchicken12 That could be why, I don't know what Canada uses. Ask Black Magic if there's anything you can do about it

  • @SpaceTopGames can you explain to me how you get 5 cords from the wii i only get 3?

  • i hooked it all up then i get a black and white screen but everything is there but no colour

  • @lightningchicken12 What country do you live in? It might be an issue with PAL and NTSC differences that can only be fixed if you buy all hardware from the same region.

  • Can I record with just HDMI not component? I've had a HD PVR for two years, I wanna start doing Machinima videos again and I just bought a TV but it doesn't have component, they sent a monitor. But that's fine with me, so can I record and play on HDMI? :-)

  • @5hankney If you use a 360 you can record with just HDMI, the PS3 and Wii force you to use component. However, the input you use doesn't matter, as Component or HDMI inputs can be used with an HDMI output.

  • @SpaceTopGames Thanks, I'll probably have to buy this then

  • I just bought it... please tell me your lying about it not working on a laptop.... i have an alienware mx15. Is there a converter?

  • @TwilightLink338 Converters most likely will not work. As Black Magic if this card will work with that Alienware, since they're usually powerful computers. With average laptop's these don't usually work.

  • for the wii though there are only composite cords coming from it?

  • @lightningchicken12 Use Component input and Component output or Component input and HDMI output if you want to record the Wii. Same goes for any of the consoles.

  • do you mean to sound like kermit?

  • @DomzrProductions hahhahahahahah

  • @DomzrProductions First time I've ever been told I sound like Kermit, but I don't see that as a bad thing!

  • I have a ASUS G74SX Laptop...will it work

  • @DesireIsOahuGrown You'd be better off asking Black Magic if any particular computer or model would work, I don't know anything about laptop chipsets. From what I know, you'll have a lot more luck getting the Shuttle to work on a desktop than you would a laptop, but I've heard people getting it working on both.
