  • Yeah u r sopposed to lay them brussels down

  • i thought you wernt suppose to lay the brushes flat because the water could still travel to the ends and loosen the brisels? wouldnt you hang them instead?

  • I do all of the steps except brush cleaner, maybe ill consider doing that. I also never use a sponge for the baby shampoo, which makes total sense. My brushes will be much happier ^_^

  • there is no excuse now deep cleaning here we go!!!

  • sooo you dont have to wash the brush cleaner off? I love watching your videos!!!

  • Great technic, thanks!

PS I have the same paper towel holder! :D

  • I Love this method! Im going to try this right now! I do however need to get a makeup remover just as backup or to use it the way you did here..YAY..off I go!

  • Thats a great idea.. Can I use vegetable oil? Or does it have to be EVOO

  • is it ok just to use makeup remover?

  • I luv this method thanx:)

  • all those water and papers T_T u could put the oil in a dish and start to clean the brush

  • i have that same oil dispenser :)

  • Gr8 thanx 😘

  • Turn off the faucet when not in used lol just sayin

  • I luv ur videos

  • I was freaking out wen u wasted all tht water XD lol but good tutorial ;))

  • Does anyone know how to get glitter/sparkle out of makeup brushes? I use brush cleaner once a week or so, and have tried the method Marlena is using as well...however the glitter stays in there and then gets in my matte shadows :(

  • awesome tips... never thought I have to clean my makeup brushes that often. I've been lucky not to have any kind of skin irritations/problems fr. dirty brushes. I feel kind of gross now not cleaning my brushes often. Thank you sooo much for giving this tutorial. I'm soooo gonna clean ALL my makeup brushes tomorrow.

  • I use hand soap and the mac brush cleaner. I don't clean my brushes as often as u should. How often should I be cleaning my brushes? Sometime after I wash them and they dry they are a little rough, right now I mostly use the elf ones trying them out. Buy I am planning in getting the MUG brushes since I really can't afford the Mac ones. What is your feed back. Oh BTW I love ya!!!!

  • im soooooooo happy i watched this video. My brushes are soooo dirty!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Water is a precious resource no matter what country you live in. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was aware of her letting the water run. I understand she was explaining but no excuse. Here in the southwest, water is precious and expensive. Lets all be aware and shoot for that 4 minute Australian shower. Thank you.

  • you do waste water huh.. very helpful tho :)

  • what about the one that comes with our eye shadows palette? The...sponge like tip one,we don't wash that right?

  • Do you have to use Baby shampoo or can you just use body shampoo

    ???

  • wwo your wasting so much water.. turn off the faucet when your not using it

  • can i use baby oils too?

  • thanks this worked!!

  • Hello mugs??????

  • @magg8899 Makeup Geeks=MUGS :)

  • can i use baby oil or cooking oil

  • learn something new everyday

  • One of the few gurus that credits the source...

    I'm proud to be a MUG =)

  • Thanks! Easy and quick!

  • i tried this on a couple of my cheaper brushes, and it worked really well (: i'm just concerned that if i clean my powder brush like this, will it regain it's original shape? thanks!

  • I used to use olive oil and Dawn dish washing soap, but I find that it's hard to wash out the bristles, especially the olive oil if you aren't careful with it. If you put too much it can take forever to wash out or just ruin your brush all together; that happened to me, but luckily it was a cheap brush. Now I mix a little bit of Dawn with Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap and it takes EVERYTHING out and it's easy to wash out. Then I use conditioner to condition the bristles. It's the best method!

  • I love how you give out tips .. I know a lot of people who would NEVER do that! I trust your reviews and tips so when I searched up how to clean brushes and saw your videos after viewing a couple of other people's, I came to your video RIGHT AWAY!! I absolutely LOVE you!! You are extremely talented and are soooooo beautiful!!

  • I just spent some time cleaning all of my brushes. This was very helpful. Thanks a bunches Marlena!

  • hey i love this video plez subcribe to me thx bye awsome vid bye the way!!! :):):):)

  • Did you call me a MUG??? Thumbs Up So She Can See

  • @GraceRomainePidgley MUG = makeup geek -__-

  • Shes showing us HER way of cleaning her brushes, and if thts her routine for her brushes tht just simple means it works on her, just because u saw tht on michelle phan doesnt mean shes the only one whos doing tht thing, and mm how sure r u guys tht its all started on her, its just tht maybe shes the first one who showed wht she do to her brushes, and when u keep talking about michelle phan in this video im sure it does offend her. if u want the was MP clean her brushes then do it.

  • BUT MICHELLE PHAN SAID TO DRY YOUR BRUSHES DOWN OR IF YOU LEAVE IT SIDEWAYS TO DRY THE WATER WILL FIND A WAY TO RUST YOUR BRUSH

  • can you use olive oil

  • OMG i found a light switch thingy on this page and its awesome!! lol xD

  • ur wroung u cant dry the brushes on the side or else water could still get throgh

  • @Icedbella31415 you cant say she's wrong, it's her way of doing it (;

  • evoo is extra virgin olive oil. dunno why she keeps shortening it, but she does.

  • What's evoo?

  • I've cleaned my brushes a numerous way from different gurus, and this is what got my brushes the cleanest :DDD

  • Thank you.

  • Can you use the oil for spot cleaning?

  • so are the brushes suppose to feel greesy afterwards? mine do should i wash them again with normal brush cleanser? I am afraid to put them into my products i dont want to ruin my shados and blushes etc

  • instead of evoo, can i just use my oil-based makeup remover?

  • really helpfull ;) at the end i understood touch you later :D:D haha

  • CLOSE THE WATER TAP!!! You are wasting a looot of waterrr

  • thank you, that was awesome! I have a gnarly brush I could not get cleaned for anything at all and now i will try the evoo trick!!

  • ur wasting water. heaps.

  • I HAVE THE SAME PAPER TOWEL HOLDER!! haha!! I LOVE IT!! its all swirly and cute.

  • haha not trying to be a hater but when you didnt turn off the water it was starting annoy me lol i guess its just mind memory

  • who cares about your water restriction? get a life! great vid x

  • very helpful ! =D

  • you must watch rachel ray!

  • Awesome! Thank you!!!

  • Greetings from Brazil! So good your video! Tks! I am learnning a lot with all your tutorials makeups!

  • oh em geee , this helped so much! thanksss !

  • do you have to use brush cleaner are dose it not matter ?

  • Do you think any type of cooking oil would work?

  • @MissEtana I tried it with cooking oil it worked

  • Well now I'm thoroughly confused. I bought all the EVOO, baby shampoo and makeup remover last night...but now I'm afraid to do this because I don't know whether or not it will ruin my brushes. I also want to know if I should dry them UPSIDE DOWN now...? Because that seems like a more logical way to keep the water out of the handle. Any EXPERTS who can answer??

  • @washadurn I'm not an expert but I know for a fact that you're supposed to dry your brushes upside down. If you don't dry them upside down , the water will drip down into the glue and then the bristles will most likely fall out. You're brushes will probably be fine using EVOO , baby shampoo and makeup remover. I clean my brushes almost every week and they're fine.

  • @washadurn Dry them with the bristles down because if the water gets in the handle it losens the glue then your brush will eventually willl fall apart

  • IN MY OPINION.. okay, yeah. i NO that there are places in this world where some communties don't have the opportunity to drink fresh water. but to be honest? we should be spending less time arguing on the internet and spend more time raising awareness or helping people in our OWN community. i'm 14 and bought a homeless man some food the other day..

if we help out nation grow and be better.. then thats when we can help other countries less fortunate. :)

you have learn to walk before you run.

  • @millie1mel I totally agree with you, but I can't take you seriously because YOU USED THE WRONG "NO"! I think you meant "know"!

  • @dancesingact4life hahaha, OMG YOU PICKED UP ON THATTTTTTTT!

    yes i did.

i usually check my grammar before i send, but that day i felt lazyy

hahahaha, nice to know i'm not the only one out there who picks up on that sort of stuff ! XD

  • @millie1mel wise words sweetie :)

  • @jmnhotgirl thaaanks :)

it's just my opinion though, not really saying i'm RIGHT. :)

  • I have been trying to get the built up foundation out of my brush for a month! I've used my MAC brush cleaner but it wasn't enough. This worked perfectly!

  • Awww, I have a couple of considerations/questions unfortunetely I guess she'll never reply here... Anyways...

Olive oil? It seems to me the brushes will smell funny... Can it be mineral oil, some perfumed cosmetic oil??? (Btw, I don't see the need to use oil anyways... Guess some conditioner would do that job...)

Only shampooing is not enough??? Imagine all that process made on about 50 brushes...

  • Don't have baby shampoo. What else can I use? Or just the olive oil is enough?

  • @OoPiNkIsHoO A smooth bath shower is ok, liquid soap, you know? But something soft, mild... ;-)

  • I don't want to be a troll and nor do I ever try but instead of laying them on the side you want them upside down so that the handle wont swell is water leaks back and water wont weep and make the glue holding it in come lose. But instead of baby shampoo use dish washing some to kill bacteria. I hope u find it useful I hope I don't sound insulting!

  • @zakora1000 Michelle Phan, ey? Jay Kay, depends on you.

  • @zakora1000 lol that was from michelle phan's video :P

  • @zakora1000 loooool, someone's been watching Michelle Phan's videos ;)

  • @unFayemous

    Yourrrrr Stupiddddd !

She Didnt Do The Same Thing As Michelle Okayyyy !

    Get Ur SHit Straight .

  • @JBaybeee1 You all need to get your shit (and spelling) right.

Michelle didn't create that idea, I've been doing it for years.

  • umm.........i know someone who said to put soap and then put olive oil together on a paper towl and dont put it like that.......you have to put them in a jar upside down so it doesnt get water down there and get the brissles wet and let them fall out....not to tell you off or anything that what i think!!!:)

  • 2 questions: this should be a new sponge that hasn't been used for anything else right? and second: is it okay if i lay my brushes on an angle so that the water flows down?

  • so do u only wash them once a week or should u wash them everyday??

  • :'( I wash them and leave them up :'( now i know better thank you Marlena :)

  • can yu use any shampoo?

  • very helpful...thanks...

  • didnt work.

  • This method with the oil works but u have to wash ur brushes very thoroughly, until all the oil comes off. if this cleaning method doesn't work, ur gonna hav to throw the brush away cuz the oil might not come off n ur brush will be very sticky.

  • in australia we are on water restrictions and we have to have 4 minute showers. water is a precious resource but obviously she wouldn't be wasting so much everytime she does this, she is only using so much because she is trying to show us and wash at the same time

  • @kaylajanexx 4-minute shower? So how do you guys wash your hands when you have to any other time of day?

  • @kaylajanexx yeah thats soooo true i hate it cause i LOVE showers!!!!

  • @kaylajanexx 4 minutes is not long enough to get clean.

  • excellent concepts - thanks!, has anyone used Maybellines most recent range of products?? its difficult to obtain cosmetics in Astatula but i managed to receive stunning samples through "Gratis-Makeup-Samples", theyre ace!

  • Doesnt the sponge have bacteria?

  • Lovely

  • Does this also work with foundation brushes?

  • ...I might try the baby shampoo thing for my paint brushes instead of using the pink soap o_o

  • so the brush cleaner is just backup?

  • and the water go away...

  • @MakeupGeekTV Please help!! I used this method to clean my brushes and now they have been drying for about 4 and 30 hours but they smell reallllly bad, I guess from the oil, its such a weird smell. I thought it would fade when they dry but they are drying and still there is a smell. Also they are a little "sticky" I guess you can say from the oil even though I washed them under luke warm water. What should I do to save my brushes?! Please help!

  • You actually are exceedingly beautiful, thanks a ton for your video clip. it can be unfortunate i'm located within Draper due to the fact i aren't able to end up getting very good cosmetics, however i get free of charge trials from 'Gratis Makeup Samples'. i love MAC make-up!

  • @mrsmichaeljackson009 you don't clean sponges you get a new one

  • @Macfreak168 Agreed! it's just a simple method, why are people still got it messed it up?You didn't get yr brush clean because u didn't do it right!! How hard this is?Even my 6 yr old can do it correctly by just watching this very informative video. She got all my brushes clean and they smell really good just like her baby shampoo! Bravo & thank you MakeupGeek!!

  • isnt the water still going to go into it even if its flat ?

  • Great video! It really helped me clean my brushes.

  • I usually wash my brushes with facial wash. If it can wash makeup on my face, then why not on brushes? But I'm still going to try your way, see which one I like better.

  • @yusra93 thats a brilliant idea im trying it! :)

  • U can just use Dish water and EVOO

  • great video for cleaning brushes...your very talented in makeup and stuff but i hope you dont always leave the water running like that...save water!!

  • what about ceaning a sponge

  • No no no, use ONLY (and ONLY) extra virgin olive oil! The molecules in it are too large to go into your skin so it won't want it oily. But any other type of oil WILL penetrate into your skin and if it's on your brush it'll make you overly oily! She says you can use any type of oil, but NO you can't.

  • @DAHEEyum My Sesame Oil works pretty well. Just wash it off well.

  • WASTE OF WATER !!!

  • @jejedropful That's exactly what I thought the whole time, I couldn't even concentrate on the video.. It's not too much to ask to turn of the water when ur doin something else in between..

  • can you use this method for all types of brushes? like the kabuki brush and the concealer brush?

  • @jtwvwb Kabuki brushes and Concealer brushes do take a little more oil and shampoo that others. But other than that, yes you can.

  • @cattyclai277983 thanx

  • Can you use regular olive oil nd regular shampoo? Pleaze answer bak

  • @0795smiley Im pretty sure it has to be Baby shampoo becuz the hair on brushes is more sensitive like baby hair.... And she said at the beginning of the vid u can use any kind of oil.

  • First let me say this....it's her water, she pays the bill....all the water on earth is recycled anyways...it's been here for millions of years.....WHO CARES HOW MUCH SHE USES....the video is about how to clean your brushes. Not about How to save

on your water bill,or how to save the planet.Keep you Green ass off the computer

    as well then....You wasting Energy...

    LOVED THE VIDEO

  • awesome!!

  • can you use just normal olive oil ?

  • Sponge collect bacteria!!

  • can i use another oil?

  • the sponge will gather bacteria...i think it would be better if you put the shampoo in ur hand and cleaned the brush in the palm of your hand...

  • SAVE WATER!! U_U

  • thx 4 shaaring, awesome video! ive been needing 2 cleean my make uip brushes 2 so this is perfect thx!

  • Jesus Christ, just say olive oil. It isn't hard.

  • hahah... touche

  • I tried this last night. The EVOO was WONDERFUL! I will make this a part of my routine. Thanx for sharing!

  • Oh my gosh people! Let her show us how to wash brushes! Quit trying to be so green!

  • @Timscleite "Quit trying to be so green!" Are u stupid? The frekin world is coming apart! its not beeing "green" anymore, is beeing realistic. There are places around the world where people dont even have acces to clean water and in other places people die because of dehydration. The whole world suffers the consecuances, but offcourse, why would you even care, all you wanna know is how to wash yuor brushes. Get your priorities straight, stop being so selfish.

  • how do you clean makeup brushes that has dye in it like shu uemura 18r red brush? i noticed that the dye comes off every time i wash it.

  • Turn off the water!!

  • you waste too much water...there enough time for you to shut the water pipe off... a lot af people don'y have clean water you know.
