  • un pluggin robbie's mike again..haahha

  • This is awesome.

  • Goddam now all we have have is Kate Perry, Justin Bieber etc. Drives me nuts when my daughter plays that crap. This is the real stuff!! Hard to pick a favourite band song but man o' man do these guys rock this out.

  • So much soul, so much joy in this song! Love to hear it each day. Thank you

  • This is so rare, Love it!

  • Oh man, I was born to late..

  • i feel like this video is a glimpse back at the hawks: the greatest bar band around.

  • how I wish I were there! WTF!!

  • Robbie is such a stereotypical guitar whaler, inasmuch the Band is such a archetypal rock n roll group - a sort of paradigmatic band to which all musical artists strive.

  • 超有名なロックンロール・クラシック・ナンバーでもザ・バンドが演奏すると座・バンドな音になるんですね。カッコいい!

  • @megadora1969 hey same.

  • fretless bass

  • This a good folk version of Little Richard's Slippin' and Slidin'!

  • tell the truth robbie!

  • It all comes down to the bottom line; Danko lays it there... hell, the "little" Band that could!!!

  • The Band made each and every song their very own.

  • Great imitation of Little Richard's piano!

  • That's rock and fucking roll at it's finest. Loose, dirty, raunchy and swingin'. Canada's biggest contribution to music IMO. Topping it off with a great American drummer and singer of course. What a talent those 5 guys were. RIP Richard and Rick.

  • man ,,, i prob said this already, but damn , richard could really move those keys. ......

  • This is fantastic! And I want them to play "Promised Land" too :)

  • "folks...the band!"

  • Rich Danko should be exalted. I love pekoe's comment right before me hahahaha

  • Garth's organ break is analogous to a funeral service being interrupted by a circus clown on acid.

  • @pekoe67 He started out getting his chops together at his uncle's funeral parlor. On acid or not, he is a trippy guy anyway.

  • @pekoe67

That is the greatest fuckin description i've ever heard!

  • @pekoe67 you stole that from some other dude

  • testing

  • Levon Helm has the best voice and facial hair hands down.

  • haha gotta love that facial hair

  • I am bluesdawg1, and I didn't make this comment. Has YouTube somehow allowed two of us to have the same tag? My account shows more than 1700 views, which seems more time than I think I have wasted on YouTube.

And just to stay on topic, this is pretty good Band stuff. But having come of age playin' rockabilly in North Mississippi, these guys are drag-assin' compared to Little Richard, who forever will reign supreme with Elvis and Chuck Berry for early rock'n'roll. :=)

  • Little Richard, Elvis, and Chuck Berry invented it, and these guys perfected it!

  • You should see his pubes.

  • Fucking Awesome.

  • no way was robbie the coolest guy in the Band RICK DANKO Had the best voice stage presence and facial hair!!!!!! :),

  • Levon was The Band

Richard was the best singer though

  • Robbie just wasn't a cool dude. When the band used to play with Bob, Robbie would just leach onto bob and follow him around, even when bob pissed

  • If it wasn't for all the stuff about him robbing writing credits you wouldn't be saying that. He's canny laim now but back in the day he was cool as fuck. Great stage presence. When he wasn't singing that is

    x

  • Keep in mind, only Levon has a gripe with Robbie. I have never heard Danko, Manuel (RIP) or Garth rip on Robbie like Levon has done.

  • It is a shame how Robbie raped the rest of the guys in the band.

  • amen.

  • Comment removed

  • No kidding. I'm reading 'This Wheel's on Fire' and Levon just started talking about how Robbie undermined the rest of the band.

  • please comeback :)

  • GREAT VINTAGE!

  • this is the best version of this song I've ever seen. Sorry JL, sorry Little ritchie

  • Festival express was great and them songs in this festival were the best!!I love it!

  • thankyou for posting this, thankyou thankyou! the only downside to being at that concert would be how terrible all others would seem after

  • True, but a lineup like Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, Buddy Guy, etc. can hold its own with even The Band.

  • This performance restores my faith in humanity.

  • Garth is a genius. I love this video.

  • Yeah he is really good, my dad plays on the same track as him. Nothing for the band, they just both performed my dads friends song on a cd my dads friend made.

  • Rick can't get any cuter. Levon can't get any cooler. Robbie's guitar solo is frenzied and fabulous. Rick's slippin' and slidin' up and down the bass. Garth--incredible. Richard in excellent form. God I love them!!!

  • The Band had never released a version of this song (typically their encore song), and the bootleg versions were highly coveted in the 70s. There's a nice version in the movie "Festival Express." Guitar's better on this one, though....brilliant.

  • This *is* Festival Express. I'm sure 'cause I saw the doc, then looked it up here - it's the same.

  • Oopa.

  • BTW. this take was released on the Musical History Box

  • This is almost without a doubt the best video on facebook. I think I've said it before, but it's true.

  • i wish bands today had this much raw energy and love for the music as the band. you can tell there digging every minute of it. levon's the most underated drummer.

  • Agree 100% about Levon Helm. I think Little Feat had some of the same loose energy; there must be bands in the same style today, just not so well known.

  • This is pure rock and roll... Garth and Robbie solos are amazing and the energy is amazing... Nowadays few teenagers know how to like this kind of music (I'm 17)

  • I love them and im a teen

  • I'm 20, but grew up on this wonderful genre of music.

  • Musician's musicians.

  • Nobody even comes close. They are the BEST--even drunk off their asses!

  • happy 4 + 20 fans of the Band

  • I love this song! It makes me want to get up and dance lol. :)

  • Garth is AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's wonderful to see the greatest band in the world so young, happy, together, tight--and kickin' ass!!!

  • who doesnt love Danny? RIP

  • how does he do that great flapper technique with his right hand shiit

  • Three great lead vocalists and the other two tooks the soloes. With The Band there was no front man, so everyone was equally the star. A unique concept that unfortunately faded away when the Band ceased to be.

  • Yeah, no one has been able to successfully execute the same practice... but has anyone really tried? I think the Band were one in a million.

  • No "front man" for many years, but when Robbie Robertson took that role they didn't last much longer...I was at the last waltz, which was great, but lots of Robbie, Robbie, Robbie.

  • Yeah theres alot of guitar fills that don't need to be in there, the shape i'm in has about 4-5 too many fills and kills the point of his subtle playing.

  • sorry it wasnt the shape im in, i cant remember which song it was and im too tired to look.

  • That's a rocker!

  • Holy crap. This performance restores my faith in humanity.

Just watch Rick Danko play that bass during Garth's solo.

  • As SF critic Ralph J. Gleason said, "Danko could rock Coit Tower."

  • My mistake. It was, "Danko could swing Coit Tower."

  • folks...the band!!!

  • nice, robbie's got the amish look goin'. great cover by my favorite band.

  • Festival Express? Magic hat Lee.

  • WOW, I love the band, one of the best bands ever

  • you're right. so stop listening to Phish. i followed them from 95-2000. I now realize how gay they were. especially trey.

  • dude, first of all im jealous you followed phish around, second of all why dont u like them anymore? like the band there a bunch of great musicians playing together, and ur trey comment?

  • phish were great. their musicianship went south as they got the real fame... course, they totally earned that. i remember when billy breathes came out. I was like, wtf, everything's in key or G or C and I can play along with every track. That's not supposed to happen??

  • i agree that they began to go south naturally, however part of that was them trying new things like every musician should, even if all of it doesn't turn out great, now that they are practicing once again maybe they can bring back that pre-hiatus spark

  • They're incredible. Robbie really rips it!!

  • Robbie burns on this one

  • I only watch this to get my jollys watchin' Rick Danko!

  • A great song, written by Little Richard, and performed by a great Band.

  • a time when musicians had talent
