I don't think that they are pioneers of anything. The Huntemann remix is pretty good if you would rather have the mindless knocking of the house-beat all day (or night) long. Underworld do what they do and some love it and some don't. Karl does some interesting little semi-rap, semi-melodious verse and the music follows along a la underworld. This is using electronica, not pioneering it. The album is pretty good, but it doesn't make my head fall off.
Interesting view.......but yeah, they were very much pioneers, no-one does this kinda music better. My opinion of course, but I believe it to be very much the majority.
I love the way this people has evolved since the begining, Personally I´ve followed them since ^Underneath The Radar^ and everey time I get surprised... right on guys...
i just listened to huntemann's version of this, as per hasteros' comment. Its your typical-sounding trash techno, and it sounds nothing at all like this version. huntemann butchered it completely.

Huntemann has turned this song into a masterpiece.I know ppl are gonna diss me for sayin this but im lettin u know:I DUN GIVE A SHIT.this is when u go to sleep or being a junkie hangin around with ur friend shootin smack listenin to that.Huntemann's remix is the shit wheither u like it or not and more famous than the original crap..Errr...song! :P
This band deserves to be considered one of the best electronic bands ever.
All those pseudo-intelectuals with Apple computers playing in boring concerts should listen to this carefully and go home.
When I first heard "second toughest in the infants" in 1996 I stayed listening for the album over and over and over, and they influenced me a lot to make my electronic music.
If I could talk with them I would just like to say: THANK YOU FOR EXISTING!
I just saw the six minute version of this song. I like the way they edited it for the single. Probably the closest they've come musically to the verse-chorus-bridge-chorus style of most singles.
It's definitely their most relaxed album. Very laid back. I see a strong parallels in the musical evolution of Underworld and Talk Talk. There's definitely more ambient explorations and harmonics used. New alien worlds.
Their most accessible (not to mention universally all-inclusive, inviting, and friendly) was "Jumbo". That track attracted listeners from every walk of listening life. I hope they do get all the airplay possible, I need them to tour again and again. I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl last Sept, and need to see them again and again and again.
