  • We were promised it...it's our right to have it. Simple. I'd also like to have a PM that at least SOMEBODY voted for. What I'd like and what I'm gonna get are, of course, two very different things. England/Europe sucks.

  • And apparently we live in a democracy.

  • I don't want a referendum.

  • The EU is growing worse every minute. This is madness. While most people are concerned about the "Eurovision songcontest" others are worrying about their countries and free rights. And it's the same with "North American Union" They had no voting about it. They just did it behind peoples backs. And no one is carrying! Why is that do you think?

Is it because, more and more people are getting depressed everyday for no reason? Is it because they feel they cant change it? Or maybe we are drugged.

  • i live in one of the constituencies where the ballot for a referendum took place, harlow in essex,i am still waiting for my ballot form to come through my front door, what a joke i never recieved a ballot paper! makes you wonder who exactly got one no one i know did, just who did i want a referendum, send one to.?

  • good on you keep up the pressure

  • Is there a ` I DONT want a referendum. com ` ? I like how they tried to balance the video out with a working class person at the end in a market. They are just Conservative and UKIP people in disguise. People want a refendum on anything lol Refendum on whether the sky is blue. Parliment is the people. I want a refendum on having a referendum. Democracy is over rated.

  • Up with the euro Vote for the EU.

  • Europe never has been for the GOOD of the people. It always has been a great big fat gravy train that failed career politicians can milk, drip...drip. It has become an monolithic bureaucratic monster run by unelected politicians. Vote NO choose freedom.

As for the fool who said "Up the euro Vote for EU" in 2 years time when your precious EU takes your ability to vote (which it will do) maybe you can while away the time reading a poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller "First they came for the Jews".

  • I do not go to pubs! But I bet you do!

  • No i do not. .

  • Wednesday 27th February 2008 hundreds lobby the houses of parliament about the referendum on europe and there was nothing on the early evening ITV news or on google news. Incredible!!!!!! Great Britain RIP.

  • Hundreds did not lobby the HOP, thousands did. The people need to understand one thing about the British media, the EU is a socialist/communist Politburo, they know this, they also know the British people have sleep walked there way into this mess, and in all socialist/communist systems we are all equal! But some are more equal than others. The British media know this and are preparing for the future. Q) Who owns the British media?

  • Smoke and Mirrors, Emperors new clothes, George Orwells Animal Farm - All we have until everybody wakes up to how the world works is this damn referendum, so lets spread the word and focus. Liberal, Dont rely on uni to provide you with hard truth.

  • As far as this corrupt socialist/communist goverment and the corrupt failed opposition is concered "1984" was not a warning but a master plan.

We need a new Party! Vote NO to the EU choose freedom.

  • We won't be given a Referendum our politicians enjoy drinking from the EU gravy train too much.

  • I think the EU is undemocratic..the EU has no loyalty to europeAN cultures..it wants to subject europe to islam..extermination of the white race is the main objective.

  • also bigmac, WE'RE not intelligent enough to vote on a referendum? Coming from a nation which voted in Bush? Dear God that IS an insult...

  • The EU is undemocratic and has been built on a mountain of spin, lies and deceit.

We should withdraw from the EU as soon as possible and set up trade agreements with the EU like Switzerland and Norway have done.

  • As for the argument that the UK would be sidelined if we left this is scaremongering and propaganda. Norway is outside of the EU and they're one of the world's wealthiest countries and have ranked top among ALL counties in human development since 2001. Norway has clearly NOT been sidelined for not being a member, on the contrary it has flourished.

  • I see your point brit lord, but switzerland and norway still have to adopt most of the legislation passed by the EU to remain in the trade agreement, the only difference is that they have no say what so ever of what laws are passed and what laws are declinned

  • Perhaps liberallimey, but you're forgetting the UK has a negative trade balance with the EU, in other words we buy more from them than we sell, hence they need us more then we need them. And you're forgetting all the protectionist/restrictive rules and regulations the EU has past which has made us less competitive with the rest of the world. (Continued Below)

  • Also you need to bear in mind that China and India are doing far better than any EU country regarding growth and trade, leaving the EU would free us to be more competitive and trade freely with these countries and others like them, which we are unable to do at the moment due to EU restrictions. (Continued Below)

  • Besides, all this talk of trade is used to divert attention from the EU's real goal. Despite what we were told and what they continue to tell us the EU is NOT about trade, it is a hostile take over of our country and that is all it was ever meant to be.

Our national identity is being eroded and our national sovereignty is being given away/taken piece by piece and it is being done by self serving, power hungry, undemocratic politicians that want to build a new European Empire.

  • alot of the eu legislation is to protect the consumer and common worker, legislation india and china dont have, if the UK wanted to rival India's and China's growth rate then they would have to remove much of this legislation, fundementally limting the consumer protection we in the EU enjoy

  • sorry, my brothers account I forgot to log out of

  • I never said we should try and rival the growth of India and China, I merely pointed out the fact in regards to growth they are doing better then any EU country and if we left the EU we would be able to trade more freely with these countries and other like them and if we were allowed free trade with non EU countries this would make as more competitive, however the EU is protectionist and we have restrictions on trade with these nations.

  • in order to compete with economies like India and china the single market is not only beneficial but also fairly important to Britain's future as a influential economy.

  • You're again also forgetting our negative trade balance with the EU, we buy more from them then we sell, hence they need us more then we need them. If we left the EU we would be free of the restrictions the EU place upon us and we would be free to establish free trade with any country we pleased, this would be a boost to our economy.

  • As for you last comment, I hope you dont take offence if I say its more than a little paranoid

  • As for your last comment, no offence taken. However likewise I hope you don't take offence when I say you sound a little young and naive. What I said is merely fact, we are being taken over by the EU and bit by bit we're losing our independence and national sovereignty. It's a fact that Eighty percent of the legislation that goes through parliament originates from Brussels. (Continued Below)

  • I don't take any offence, however I must say I'm not naive, I have researched the EU for years, and the fact is your not much older than me.

  • You're only 19, BritLord is 29 at the ages you are now that makes him considerably older and more experienced then you

When you're my age you'll look at 18-19 year olds and see them as kids, at the moment you may find that offensive but in 10 years time you'll understand what I'm talking about.

  • Im sorry, but I have never had such guff about being young on any other site, and I hope you dont take any offence to this, but most of the least informed about the EU I know are around your age, if I siad I was currently under going a european politics course at university would you be so quick to assume you know more than me.

  • The education system has been heavily politicised over the last 10 years, you're not being educated boy you're being indoctrinated. If you wish to be educated on the EU read a book by Ashley Mote called Vigilance: A Defence of British Liberty, or a book called The Truth They Won't Tell You By Vernon Coleman.

Also standards have been lowered in our education system to the point my King Charles spaniel could pass a course at university these days.

  • and finally are you sure your older than me, because from the sound of things your as arrogant as a teenager, grow up, you don't, and can't possibly know how much I know about the EU based on the age you see on my profile page.

  • If you're so informed about the EU why didn't you tackle any of the points BritLord raised in your debate with him instead of ignoring them? Such as: 80 percent of legislation passed in parliament originating from Brussels? Our negative trade balance with the EU? And his last comment that talks about us being lied to in 1972? It's because you can't for these points he raised are factual.

You need to wake up and smell the coffee boy.

  • We were lied to in 1972 when we were told the EU was all about trade, if it was why would they want an EU army? Why do they want control of our immigration policy? Why do they want a foreign minister and a seat on the UN Security Council? Etc etc. Face the facts lad we are a subject province of a European super state, with a few remaining, tiny little areas of independence left that we have just about managed to preserve.

  • BritLord:

    Well said mate.

  • Please let's get back to point of video and discuss our opinions for/against a referendum. Thanks everyone. :-)

  • britain needs to become more like scandinavia and germany, even ireland is a better place to live than the uk.

  • bigmac, you say very definitely that Treaty is "entirely sensible" and "nothing to object to". How do u know? Are you a politics student? Have you read the Treaty document? Plz let us know :-)

  • bigmac, I see you are from the US. It is very unkind of you to refer to the English as "anti-european idiots" and "not intelligent enough". Most UK folk are not anti-european, but we are very sceptical of what our politicians tell us. Remember Mr Blair told us Iraq had WMD. And as for inteligence, we are just as intelligent as any other nation.

  • bigmac, I am quite concerned for you, you must have had a really rotten life here in the UK for you to be so very hostile. Why did you write "Britian is a shithole full of braindead morons"? What on earth happened to you? :-)

  • alot of us are having a god awful time of it.

Especialy those of us who show any kind of patriotism towards Britain.

I cannot celebrate the history of this great nation without being called a racist, and i assuer you i am no racist, my 2 best friends are both halfcast.

  • Mr Tony Benn recently warned of the consequence of this Treaty, "If this goes through Gordon Brown will not be the prime minister of Great Britain, he will be the mayor of the Greater British Authority".

  • Look up this video on YouTube. "Tony Benn speaks in favour of a referendum". Tony Benn (a truely honest and principled polititian) talks about how the EU Constitution/Treaty will destroy our democracy.

  • I thought Gordon was keen on devolving power downwards, but instead he wants to give it away upwards to EU where as individuals we will never be able to challenge anything. I feel I am becoming like a medieval peasant with no power against the lords and masters.

  • The promise of a referendum was in the Labour Party manifesto and so if Gordon Brown has any honour must allow us our vote. I have signed up at your website.

  • What part of "no" doesn't Gordon understand? We don't want the 'treaty'. We don't want ID cards. We don't want an unelected Prime Minister.

  • All the other European heads of states agree this so-called 'treaty' is the same as the constitution. Does Brown think we are stupid? We were promised a vote, but once again Brown has no bottle! This man can't be trusted!

  • We were promised a referendum, so we should get one.

  • quite right!
