As for Luther, the AIDS rumors were false, all of his other siblings and him, i believe 4 total, died from iillnesses. They all had a bad set of genes and their mother sadly outlived them. I think Luther had the best shot of living a normal life considering he made it to 54. The problem is he didn't take good care of himself. Constantly yo-yoing in weight, getting big, then small repeatedly. If he had a nutritionist and doctors monitor him and stayed in shape, he'd prolly offset it for a while.

George Michael, Freddie Mercury (before he died & "married" his male partner) both came out of the closet years ago; Little Richard, during his days as a preacher admitted being gay in a televised evangelist show he gave for BET back in the 80's, although he denies it now; Elton John has been out of the closet for many years even though he tried to cover it up during the 80's by getting married to a woman (Freddy Mercury did the same thing), however Luther Vandross remained in the closet.

Its true that Little Richard and Luther never officially came out of the closet but almost everybody knew they were both gay. The flamboyant Little Richard is very obvious despite having children. Many gay people have children. Luther was more on the down low but we know. Johnny Ray, Clay Aiken and Ricky Martin could be added to list as well.
