  • how do you get the food sealer to seal properly if it sucks the moisture from the zucch. I find it makes the sealing process difficult.

  • @Jadee5310 . I actually have to "trick" it. As you have stated once it starts to seal and looks like all the air is out it will then start to pull in water. So right at this point I turn it to "seal" only so it will stop vacuuming and doesn't pull in the water. Not a perfect method, but works pretty well.

  • I have no idea where the website go the info from that nutritions would go when any vegi for that matter is frozen, but I can tell you that vegi should be used within a year and they do last at least a year frozen blanched or not. I grew up on self-grown frozen vegis that were used from harvest season to harvest season.

I know that cooking in any form not only breaks down certain enzymes, but also vitamins mainly. So it actually does not matter if you cook it before or after.

    My 2 cents.

  • thx

  • Yes

  • @ryan024316 . Gotcha. Well I actually harvested a bunch of peppers and squash yesterday so it may be a few days before I do another harvest. But I'll try and put myself in there.

  • You should do a video of you harvesting from the garden.

  • @ryan024316 . Well I have a harvest video that shows what I picked after. Are you saying actually showing the process of picking?

  • Zucchini and squash "chips" were the craze at my brother's work last year. Dehydrate and just eat them as a heathy snack. Might need some seasoning though.

  • @KayakFisher01 My favorite is squash and onions sauteed with salt and pepper. Ummm ummm good. If you dehydrate, you don't have to freeze, so it saves on power in the long run. Just thrown them into mason jars and be done with them.

@2:20 you say, "put them in the ice water, it stops them from FREEZING."

  • @KayakFisher01 Ya that does sound good. I was thinking about getting a dehydrator for my veggies this summer, so I still may try and get one.

  • Well it looks like you now have a great hedge against inflation. I prefer dehydration but I might have to freeze some aswell.

  • You know the way I'm good at prophesies? Well, I see another freezer in your future (pretty immediate future). LOL, I had to get another freezer last year because I had so much stuff to store.

Who said you save money by growing your own?

    Best Wishes, Brendan.

  • @baconsoda . Brendan you are definitely a mind reader of sorts. I did look into cheap used freezers on craigslist just for fun. I don't know if I will get one, but I did find some really cheap.

  • You know I was thinking maybe what I'm ganna try is the dehydrater! Maybe I can add spices and see how that comes out!

  • Great tips! I really want one fo those freezer vacs, lol. How much are they, roughly?

  • @GardenCalifornia . Well I got mine used on ebay for about $25 which is pretty cheap. They have other used ones around $40 and that is still a pretty good deal since they are aroudn $100-$200 new.

  • Now all you need to show us is you eating it!

  • Thanks for sharing! I noticed when I did turnips the other day they required a quick blanching too for some sort of enzyme. Hopefully I'll have some zucchini to try this out with this year!

  • @steen1973 . Thanks for the comment. Ya it kills some enzyme that lets them store longer or something.

  • I never blanch mine..Ive never had any problem! If you wash them really well, before cutting them up, then you should have no problem! I think that they hold their shape and freeze better if they are not blanched! You can then use them in recipes without them desindegrating!

  • @KatNip2007 . Thanks for the tip. I would think you probably don't have to blanch them as a lot of veggies you buy frozen don't seem blanched.

  • What's the website?

  • @Ahbeeb . Whoops. I forgot to put it in the description. It is in there now.

  • Oh and blanching them also prevent botulism and some bacterias from staying alive in the freezer.

  • I've never tried to freeze zuchinis....just might if I get a lot! thanks!

  • What do you use your squash in?

  • @dulce3tat . I actually don't have any recipes that I used in the past other than just cutting it up and sauteing it with olive oil and salt and pepper. But this year I will try some new stuff like zucchini bread and some other recipes.

  • @14dollarz Oh yea thats a good idea! Zucchini bread is yummy! I guess you could put it in soups and stuff to! I cant wait for mine to grow so I can do what you did and freeze it! Thank you for showing me how! ; ) Please check out my channel!
