  • The FDNY has been ordered by the court to recruit minorities and even out the sea of Caucasian faces that dominate 90% of all fire houses. Mayor Bloomberg apparently disagrees with the courts decision and has placed a freeze on hiring until the test has been revised. Once the freeze is lifted, hopefully the court mandate will force the FDNY to open their doors to EVERYONE who is qualified to do this very elite city job. We'll see if it ends the "rite of passage" reserved for family members only!

  • @tntconnect2006 i dnt get it let the people who score the highest get the job on both the physical and written this isnt the job to say screw the test scores lets hire some more blacks and hispanics even tho they scored lower... if somebody's life is on the line we need the most qualified person running into the building black white or yellow if you scored higher you deserve the job

  • any fire fighter have an idea as to when the next FDNY recruit exam is?

  • Check the FDNY website

  • 2011

  • they start filing in 2010... but the test will be 2011

  • Not until 2011 unfortunately. I will be taking the test then as well.

  • @JohnR177 It is 2011 lol. Any updates on the test?

  • @deeoosee there are requirments make sure you have those listed. theres a fee for the test, the next test should be around early 2011. but there maybe or not a test due to fdny problems and house closures. the 1000 ff list havent been finished yet. theres still probies waiting to get on the job. check their site things might change a bit so be prepared stay low stay safe.

  • @jasonbsa

Yesterday's Daily News had a story about the test being thrown out because it's discriminatory.

  • @RadioReporter01 its not really going to get thrown out but just remade. and if the test is not next year then wait for another 4 years is fine.

  • I'll wave if I go there

  • Sorry I removed the comment about Flatbush by accident but if I'm in Flatbush I'll wave at you

  • there warming up the saw engine...its done every day to make sure the saws functionig..that way when its needed in an emergency...u know for a fact it works

  • basically.

  • Unlike the cops who had to wait for FDNY for a pin on the corner and theirs wouldn't start.

Actually it was the Hurst tool, but it's the same motor.

  • thats what i said

  • Wow! 5 stars and a favorite rating for a saw test. What will happen if I post them actually doing the hero stuff?

I know these guys are great, but I didn't know there were others who knew why.....

  • It's in front of the truck. If you look, you'll see one of the drivers looking on in at the right side, wearing dark blue. Typical front end smash, you've seen it before, no real injuries.

They got tired of waiting for the cops. You don't do this at the scene, you do it away from there.

I took some still pictures, need one?

  • Where's the car crash? This looks more like MUD than a car accident.

  • None taken, but what do they use to cut the locks, same saw? I have thousands of pics of it in action but I never bothered to ask what it's called.

I'm pretty mechanical myself and almost stepped in to help on a pin job when ESU couldn't get the Hurst tool started, probably because they don't bother to see if it works until too late

  • roof saw, partner saw, but ive never heard halogen saw... no disrespect.

  • Is that the saw for the light bulbs???

  • HAHAHAAHHAHA

  • You know they mix halogen with another substance to burn thru bank vaults.

I thought the blade was made from that. I guess it's carbide tipped actually.

I can field strip and repair anything they've got with almost no tools, so mecahinically I'm no dummy. I just never bothered to learn the names of some of the stuff because I don't need to.

When I tell the assignment desk, I say he had a saw, a metal bar and an ax.

  • halligan?

  • Probably. there's the rabbit tool, the entry tool, the halligan. Some are probably the same. i know it's a saw with acarbide blade, I know the tool the use with the axe is made froim raelly hard steel, and I had the ax.

I'm not a buff like many. I just take the pictures and can't actually tell you what year of truck Engine 262 is currently driving.

I always wave when they go by.

  • halogen saw eh? thats a new one.
