  • Pretty sure when she sings "...Preacher Man" she wants to say "a sweet talking son of a...bitch" At least that's what I always expect...

  • I just don't understand why she looks so awful (not trying to be rude) here but in the 90's she looks much healthier and better. The 80's made a mess of her (I think) in the appearance department. It seems like she had hideous hairdos and her outfits just don't look "right." Anyway, she still nails some of those oldies hits, RIP Dusty, you are missed.

  • DUSTY, MAGIC, PURE MAGIC.

  • i want to met you in heaven, one day, dusty.

  • you're missed dusty

  • lovely lady never lost her voice...great classics, still fret today

  • she was just 46 in this video

  • hey thanks for posting this. This 7 minute video is worth hours of comedic entertainment! Even she can't believe she made it on stage without slipping in her own vomit 5:43. I love this lady. You can tell she has a sense of humor.

  • the only one WHO ...could eva teach me 4:24. Watch it over and over again. I love Dusty even when she's as high as a kite. i think she would have burned this video if she could

  • she most certainly sounds better if you close your eyes

  • oh cover the children's eyes! don't let the boogie man get them!!!

  • OK so she was a little loaded........can't stop loving her talent

  • She had such style, she was the ultimate showman. As she is singing Son of A Preacher Man notice how she does the 360 degree turn around the mic stand. Believe it or not that moment of the show was worth the price of admission.

  • Dusty`s voice could melt butter in a refrigerator.......

  • she looks like a creature from the future...LOL

  • Good god, she looks like Khan Singh.

    KHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNnnnnnn!!!

  • Oooh!! Yes he was.. a sweet talking son of a bitch! :)

  • Fabalous darling! x

  • wow but son of a preacherman was amazing!!

  • I think her voice had become lower and a little thinner sounding by the 80s and 90s which I think is apparent on the reputation album which is quite natural as this happens to most women as they get older although I don't think her smoking helped matters either. Don't get me wrong this isn't a criticism - I'm a major Dusty fan. Cameo was her vocal peak in my opinion.

  • The Voice is still OK. But, what does Dusty look like? Hardly recognisable from her 60`s / 70`s hey day. Thanks for the memory.

  • Ok, this is not Dusty's finest live vocal moment, but it's not the trainwreck some people here seem to think. She had trouble at times, but at others (like "I Close My Eyes and Count to Ten"), she sounds like the old Dusty. I'm glad by the time PSB brought her back, she had pulled herself together, and her career had a rewarding, successful final act.

my only gripe from is that outfit- like a cross between a Solid Gold dancer and Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome. But hey, it was the 80's...

  • Nothing like Dusty live and had that privilege in 82 @ LA Greek Theater same year that sadly overlooked masterpiece White Heat lp was released...greatest concert experience of a lifetime...all time greatest blue-eyed soul singer...Bravo Dusty...you are missed!

  • Have always loved and her great talent and who are we to judge her lifestyle. In all my lifetime I've never ever met a perfect human being . Long live her talent .

  • Thats very correct her life style was her business and no one elses

  • I don't care what people say, I love Dusty forever and ever!! and of course i love this performance,

  • I love her regardless!!

  • This isn't a good video if you want to see Dusty the singer-her voice gives out a few times, her phrasing is off occasionally and she makes some questionable aesthetic choices on Preacher Man-but it's a great video for Dusty the performer because she can win you over anyway.

I have to say, though, despite not being at her best vocally, she nails "Look of Love."

  • At the time this was made she was heavy into drugs and mental problems due to her not being able to fully come to terms with being a lesbian. She was in a violent relationship with a woman in California in the 1980's. But Dusty overcame all and had a smashing come back in the late 80's with the Pet Shop Boys. Dusty, we love you and may you rest in peace.

  • I love her she is such a babe at any age! Her voice is smokin' hot. I feel like we were cheated somehow since she was performing in England! Why not more here in the states?

  • just hope people dont form there opinions of dusty based on this performance without seeing her in her prime when few if any could touch her

  • Your 100% correct but good as Dusty was Helen Shapiro was better

  • @burnley5960 I don't really see that as correct. In what way was Helen better? (even though I really enjoy Ms. Shapiro!)

  • Her voice had a lot more power and at the time she was 14 and it still has the same amount of power today

  • I am charmed by the uniqueness of Helen Shapiro's contralto and you could be correct in some ways but "power" isn't necessarily the most crucial factor in pop music. One could say Dusty's ability to convey mood and emotion in her vocals outweighs the importance of "power".

  • @wilco9971 no excuse ,Shirly Bassey's been singing over 50 years now,and just gets better.

  • So glad I grew up at the same time as Dusty, she's irreplacable and unforgetable, Love & miss yer Lass,

    R.I.P Ray ♥

  • I had the great pleasure of getting to know Dusty during the early '80's. She could be difficult due to her demons at the time, but it was one of the highlights of my life. I will always remember her as Mary O'Brien as well as Dusty. A very, very special woman, indeed. I believe she found some peace before her death and I am so glad of that. RIP, Mary.

  • I'm glad you got to know her and that she apparently had a terrific sense of humor about herself. A voice as hypnotic and other-worldly as she possessed, she. at least, recognized what WE saw in her, unlike a self destructive soul as Michael you-know-who. She must have been a smasher as they say in the UK.

  • she looks a bit strange, drunk or something

  • At her worst. There were plenty of people, at the time, who thought this show proved she was finished, Thank god PSB proved otherwise.

  • Haha that was great!!! i think this was the period when she contracted larynigitis... although so, she could still deliver!!! Perfect, just perfect!!! RIP dusty!!!

  • anyone know who i can contact about Dusty stuff?

  • Being gay does not affect the voice, I hear.

Too bad ab out the screen stretch distortion. Her shoulders make her look like a linebacker...ah the 80's.

Her vibes are amazing. Still got her sweet voice. And what a sense of humour she has about herself. That makes her 100% successful.

  • High? Cold! Pleeeze! She sang on key didn't miss a note perfection of an artist! Unreheressed 9sp) and awesome. I loved this lady and still do! Sing it Dusty! RIP, we in the USA loved you and your music! We lost a true diva!

  • Considering Dusty made classics in 78, 79 & 82 with no industry support, by 85 before the Pet Shop Boys put her back on top where she belonged, Dusty must have been frustrated & rightfully so...still magical, Dusty is a legend and this is a treat!

  • @bradly2007 Too true..she was so lovely and talented!

  • @kezzer2 Lovely,you must be joking ,she was a dog.but with a good voice.

  • @barneyboscoe How negative,grow up....your a dog for saying this...pathetic Barney....why do you do this?

  • @bradly2007 Well said!

  • In the late 70s or 80s I saw a show with Leslie Gore where she wore more or less the same pant suit as Dusty... that's when I really did realize (to my delight) that these (my idols) were gay. Of course, years and years later, we know. Power to these ladies.

  • Also, keep in mind that this is is a square screen stretched wide. Not flattering.

  • Thank you for sharing this. Knowing Dusty's whole life (yes, folks, do your research before you comment), this a wonderful, rare view of her in 1985.

One of the most underestimated female vocalists ever!

  • I think she was higher than a kite...love her still.

  • Comment removed

  • sounds like she might have been trying to sing through a cold or sinus congestion. it's hard to hit those dulcet tones with that going on. She was the greatest!!!

  • I have heard that Dusty often suffered from laryngitis and other vocal challenges. As a sinusitis sufferer, I can very much appreciate this! Kudos to her for pushing against circumstances and still putting on a show.

  • chun1702 hi strange comment....Me??

  • ah, she was fun...voice, talent, brains and a great comic. RIP Dust

  • you clearly have never heard of her before because if you knew you would not be asking such a ridiculous question.

  • How fantastic to see this footage of Dusty. Thank you so much for sharing this, otherwise I'd never have seen it. God she was good. God Bless you Dusty!

  • I hate these medleys - they just sell these excellent songs short.

  • God Bless you Dusty, I miss you. RIP Gone too soon!

  • My favorite vocalist this side of Roy Orbison.

  • serious shoulder pads! But she sounds great :)

  • What a voice - R.I.P Dusty - thanks for the music and all the beautiful memories I can unite with your songs and I hope we met you sometimes in heaven und I m sure that we listen to you sweet music again

  • She had SOUL and a unique voice you knew it was Dusty, she didn't sound like anyone else. I had my hour of Dusty now. Perhaps a couple more then away to bed read a few chapters of my current novel then shuteye and dream of Dusty, Who else??

  • Me.

  • Even though we have her recordings...I wish she were still with us....For me the best singer EVER!!!

  • Well, theres no escaping the fact that she looks different from the sixties, but she sounds the very same! This is very comforting for me!

  • StepheninLondon, you really need to sort out this resolution problem. you appear to be selecting the wrong resolution for most of your uploads, causing them to be squashed. Upload at resolution 640x480. Are you sure your resolution is correct before upload?

  • no singer is going to sound exactly the same as they age, the voice matures and changes. dusty still sounds great here.

  • Dusty forever, I love her voice, I love Dusty....Dusty the best ever. God bless you Dusty.

  • Having bought Dusty's records when I was 12 yoa and enjoyed singing along with her. Her voice is slightly off, especially on some of the songs, but of course she is singing live in this video. This is seen alot in performers in later years.

  • wot a lady rip

  • Thanks for this video!!! Dusty lives in our harts!

  • totally brilliant

  • This was good to watch, thank you.

  • It's so sad about the elephant in the room...

She's only 45 here, but the cigarettes have stolen her voice...

  • You know I would have to disagree. .I thought she sounded Fantastic, myself!

  • She's still Dusty. But if you really can't hear the difference in her voice...you need some q-tips!

(Listen to Lulu's "to sir with love" 40 years later-she still has it.)

I'm sorry, but Dusty's voice (not talent) is gone. You find yourself trying to help her along...uncomfortable.

And again, sad. Don't mean I don't love 'er!

  • She sounds virtually the same, I have no idea of what you're talking about. We're used to hearing the studios, it's not going to sound the same as a live performance.

Franklin's voice, however, is nothing like it was in the 60s and 70s. It's still remarkable but hers did change and not for the better. Dusty's voice sounds the exact same at least to these ears.

  • I see you get negative results from what you say ! But you are right....also, nerves can step in...and that makes breathing difficult. Dusty is gasping for air at times !

What a great lady though, there will never be another Dusty.

  • Thanks for your sanity! It's sad that her true fans cannot see her for the beautiful, yet flawed, human being that she was. Ever the performer, it took guts, and a need for cash to go out and try to "laugh and giggle" her way through lots of these songs. I love her, always will, but I love the woman, not the myth.

  • Dusty made What have i done to deserve this with The Pet Shop Boys in 1987

  • OH DUSTY YOU ARE SO MISSED

    MARY

  • fabulous to see thank you so much for posting it on utube. I watch it everytime I go on the site. Thanks again. No one compares to Dusty

  • rip dusty wot a lady from the uk

  • dusty come back 1982 with the pet shop boys

  • her song with the Pet Shop Boys was closer to 85 or 86 I think.

  • brilliant!! all the little giggles and nearly tripping over the mic lead.. gawd bless her!

  • Have you heard "Corner of the Sky"? Dusty and Petula, recorded by Dusty in the mid 70s and Petula's vocal going on in 2006. It's amazing.

It's a pity she's not still here so they could do a whole album together. Two fanatastic soulful voices together.

  • Yes - Petula is a huge fan of Dusty's and always says in interviews that she regrets never having sang live with Dusty.

  • Incredible, thanks so much for posting. Am guessing from the hair and outfit that this is 1987 at the time of the comeback?

Her voice is much stronger than on her recordings of that time, I wonder if this was because of the method of recording she'd adopted by then? I've heard Neil Tennant say that by then her tracks were recorded a sylable at a time!

Awesome to see though - you can't surpass Dusty.

  • Will check my files - but I think it was a couple of years prior to the comeback with the Pet Shop Boys. "The London Palladium" Show had just been resurrected and highlighted stars such as Dusty, Petula and Dionne.

  • 5:52 LOL That's Dusty! And I love it at the beginning when she keepd laughing, too. This is a fabulous performance. She's awesome.

  • Dusty.. Amazing as always...her voice goes straight to your heart! Thanks for this wonderful video!

  • Brilliant!!!!! Thank You!!!
