when I first transitioned it was not on purpose and I was a firm believer of my chemically fixation. Once I realized how just my scalp was changing (no more blizzard) I was a convert. They pattern of my hair before my chop and after is two totally different things...
I look at other sisters with relaxed hair and think to myself how free I feel because I'm ruled by my hairstyle. For example I can go swimming any time I feel.
I am always thinking about going natural but i always wounder what the texture it will be? I know i shouldn't worry about how is comes out but i would like to have some type of fluffy wild exotic curl. So i guess i will try it and see if i can to go with out a perm for a year, which will be hard for me. Any ideas.....
@showpup24 Think of it this way, it really doesn't matter how your hair texture comes out since it's easily altered. Twist-Outs, Braid-Outs, Bantu-Knot Outs, and Flexi-Rod sets, can all give your hair a gorgeous curly look, if that's what you're going for. Plus, curl pattern has a tendency to loosen once it gets longer.
Most natural women wear those styles since they show off more length, and prevent tangles and knots. Good Luck!
#10) When approaching the aisles that contain relaxers, run away quickly to avoid a sudden impulse to apply the relaxer onto your head in the store bathroom to satisfy that 'creamy crack' fix.
#11) Never look a sister with a relaxer in the eye. She is your kryptonite. The temptation may be too great and you may want to relex your hair. LOL!
@ViergeVraie Actually, I would them straight in the eye! You never know what she is thinking and she may be thinking, "I wonder if MY hair would be that pretty if I went natural?" Which btw is the whole reason why i went natural in the first place :)
hi , im going natural and im transitioning now but i wanted to know how do you transtion edges because my edges are so nappy and dry and brittle because i dont have a perm on them and i cant use gel because it makes it wavy and nappy looking can anyone help thanks
@kellyjeanine00 try using bees wax. it's available at local hair or drug stores for about 2.99 per jar, depending on your location. it's a natural product that works very well. Good luck mama!
@kellyjeanine00 That's been my problem with my edges all my life, even when I was relaxed. I was convinced no gel could tame my edges, lol. The natural community put me on to the Eco Styler gel. It was the only gel in my entire life that laid my edges flat. I would use it with a moisturizer on damp hair. Check out African Export's channel, she has a GREAT tutorial on smoothing down thick natural hair for a protective style.
@kellyjeanine00 i know this is late but if u r not deep conditioning on the reg do so it improves texture, also those nat recipe relaxers help (there deep conditioning treatments too). plus u have to get comfortable w/ those edges no matter how they grow & choose curly styles like bantu knots. if u don't get comfortable w/ all your hair in it's natural state, then how long r you gonna be able to stay chemical free? now can someone help me w/ my attachment issues w/ 14-17" of relaxed hair!!
I think natural hair is nicer then fake wigs and extensions.. etc ... has anyone seen oprahs natural hair that one episode with chris rock? She's got some amazing hair but i guess she can afford it lol
Thanks so much! Im so glad that i have found this video. ive been 9 months on natural hair and the information in your video was so helpful. I honestly didnt know that i would have to cut it off cause i was Trying to grow my hair out as it was before right now its about an inch past my shoulders so idk!
I haven't had a perm in my hair since sept 2009. And i've never did a co-wash. I'm completely sure i understand the advantages to doing it. Could someone inform me why i would want to out moisture back into my hair everyweek?
well, if u still have permed hair in your hair, than it's going to break off really bad. Hair needs moisture, especially natural hair, because the curlier it is, the less hair follicles it has, meaning it has less protection from damage u do to it like blow drying, curling, flat ironing. Your hair needs that moisture BAD! Co-washing provides a lot of moisture to the hair, but u still need to put more moisture in it. Conditioner is to re-moisture hair, shampoo is to cleanse the scalp of buildup.
JUST JOINED THE SITE THIS MAY BE THE SUPPORT I'VE BEEN LOOKIN FOR :) i wanted to go natural months ago but i decided to relax in april, soon after i regreted that decision, had i not relaxed i would've been 8mo post. so now im going to give it another try, im currently in braids, apl 14 wks post, attempting to stretch until jan, hoping to have my mind completely made up.

So do you have to cut your hair to finally get that natural look or can you just let your regular hair grow out and do the natural thing by itself
drechan13 8 months ago
