It is not the same to put a dead insect in the trap and to put a live one. Putting a dead one in the trap, the trap the next day will be open again. Putting a live one the trap will be closed for days. I think that is happening because the trap has a mechanism to detect whether that was an insect or something that got in and got out. If you close a trap with your hand the next day the trap will be open.
@Ulrichdimos it has a mechanism that detects motion after it is closed, to see if what it catched is an insect or a peace of dirt. to trigger that sensor you can massage gently the trap after it is closed. works every time with mine. you'll notice it will close more secure. if it reopens just close it again
So that's what those things are! They've shown up in my worm farm ages ago! Thought it was some sort of pest or infestation or somethin, ha ha. so it turns out they're just worms ey? Is it the moths larvae? cos other wise it is an infestation :\
I heard your not suppose to feed the VFT Ants; I have no clue why but Im guessing its either because the ant struggles too much/ eats its way out or the ant has too hard of a shell so the VFT can't digest it, but I'm thinking of slightly squishing the ant so that the ant dies and theres a big enough break in its exoskeleton so that the juices of the VFT can penetrate into the ant.
@kristenkirsch Only an idiot would forget that you need to put "an" instead of "a" if next word starts with a vowel. Also, only an idiot would assume that an american, or anyone else from anywhere, would do such a stupid thing.
@the13blackzodiac I'm just having a wee laugh about it. don't get so upset about it pal. I'm scottish. i put shit on my country all the time, but i still love at and am still proud of it. i have many american friend who joke around with me all the time. don't get court up with simple grammar. i was properly drunk at the time!
@kristenkirsch sorry. its im just sooo tired of everyone being like americans are greedy, stupid, fat slobs that cant do anything right. i am nothing like that. i like staying in shape, im an honor student, and i constantly help people whenever i can. i just gave blood for my first time not to long ago and i plan on doing it again. sterotyping people just make me so mad >.< and again im sorry.
it does not take 5 to ten days it took one of my heads like two weeks just to digest a moth. One tip to for your venus fly trap dont feed every head this will waste the energy for the plant you want to feed it like two bugs a day dont worry if you feed it an insect and it manages to close the trap and get out the head will slowly start to open within two ours
@DoomsdayKillz if you think that your trap doesn't close, it should close in a few or more minutes. If it's closing slowly, then thet means that your VFT gains too less sunlight for energy.
@DoomsdayKillz so if ill cut off the trap will it live? it will grow a new trap? Mine is without roots because i pulled it out from a mother plant. Now it's in a cup of melted snow.
@Donciulis if the roots arnt damaged like chopped off then you should just replant them using distilled water ONLY never use tap water unles you have to. and if you have to use tap water then get a jug or whatever full of water then leave it outside for 48 hours to get rid of the chlorine which is a posion to the plant.
Can you help me? how to propagate the venus flytrap? I took one trap with a footstalk and now it's in a cup with melted snow - rain. I putted it next to some light. Will it live? please help me
Yes you have to water them. It is best to get a pot with a tray on the bottom. Keep the tray full of water. Make sure you use distilled or rain water, as tap water is full of salts and will kill the plant. Also make sure your plant gets pleny of light. You can grow these inside with flouresent lights.
@layvor it actually doesnt have to eat at all! but it does way better if it does. one to 3 bugs a month. BUT GROW IT OUTSIDE. and give it a cool dormancy in winter. and DONT MISTAKE DORMANCY FOR DEATH! IF ITS LOSING LEAVES IN OR NEAR WINTER, ITS OKAY.
i live in sydney australia. i've recently bought a common venus flytrap. I've followed your instruction on how to repot. it's got plenty of rain water & is in allday sun(10-14 hours. the repotting went great. although i fed it a fly a wasp & a bee & after closing on the insects the next day i noticed the traps were turning black. after two more days they're progressively blackening. the rest of the traps are fine. could you HELP PLEASE!
There is the octopus plant, which curls around the victim. There's the pitcher plant which drowns the victim in a bag-like thing. There is also the sarfish, where the vivtim sticks to the leaf and cannot come off.
wat should u do wen ur venus fly trap is done eating and opens?and if its done eating and u put ur fingure in it to try to clean it and it closes wen will it open?
no.not at all. if you really want a plant that catches flys, get a sundew. a tropical sundew. if you get a vft, you will have to give it a COLD dormancy, and lots of light. but a tropical sundew does not need dormant, and if placed strategically, in a place with lots of light, it will catch lots of stuff and gets lots of sun and look pretty

helpful video because i was really wondering what to feed it and i was wondering how long it would take before it opened again because mine has a fly in there for 3 days already and i was worried that my venus fly trap wasnt doing what it was supposed to
Basically he said not to feed your Venus fly trap ham, burgers, or hot dogs. And if you want to feed it ants you can kill them. When your feeding them place the food directly in the trap then wait til is starts closing and take your fingers or twisers out. And They normally eat spiders, crickits, ants, and insects. It takes 5-10s for it to open the trap after you feed it. you can feed it as much as you want in every trap as long as they are open. yeah that is pretty much it
what a retard. if you squash an ant and put it into the trap, sure the trap will close, but because the ant is dead, it wont continue to stimulate the trigger hairs so the trap wont begin digestion, it'll just reopen in a few hours and you will have wasted a whole load of energy. always feed it live prey.
