  • This is Zamba by Vizzutti. Stripling did it on a recording of the Carmine Caruso Jazz competition with the 1:00 Jazz Lab at North Texas several years back. Great tune, great recording, great trumpet player! I love his tone - big enough to drive a truck through!!!

  • Whats this song called??

  • From 2.30, why does this Vid and the cadenza remind me so much of Vizzutti's fire Dance. Although its a dif piece it shares a slight similarity, but oh well thats just me rambling, i like both Viz and Byron.

  • i thought the same thing!

  • I could be wrong, but didn't Vizzutti either write this piece or play it?

  • Did anybody catch the "A night in Tunisia" ... in his Cadenza @5:20?

  • The name of the tune is called Zamba, its a great tune.

  • Does anyone know the name of this tune? I love the changes.

  • I saw this guy two days ago and he was incredible! If you get the chance, go see him

  • i saw this guy last night he's amazing?

  • Saw him at George Mason... It was the hands down the best performance I have ever been to. He is incredibly talented in many ways, including comedy. My face hurt from laughing so hard.

  • he will be playing at george mason tomorrow night 8pm

  • Even this fine video does not do Byron's sound justice. You need to hear this guy live to capture the intensity.

  • the solo is almost identical to the one that he plays on the carmin de caruso disc at UNT

  • what tune is this?

  • zamba

  • this song is the shit, we played it w/ him

  • so did we what school you go to?

  • north scott in iowa

  • no way me to who is this this is cory

  • all i gots to say is this video is the shit

  • When the band kicked in and got to the last chord, I blasted a high F#, a 5th higher than the note Byron was holding. I got the nastiest look I've ever seen and Byron is no small dude, so I thought I was going to get my ass kicked. I ran and hid and didn't show up for the 2nd part of the concert until two seconds before the downbeat. I know not to screw with byron. best player ever!!!

  • You mean a 4th higher.. he was playing the C# which is the 5th of the chord and you played the root above him... so it was a 4th higher.. and I assure you.. his look was not a mean one.. I know Byron and he is very cool, you had nothing to worry about. If he saw you, he would've shook your hand.

  • dude, grab your horn. the trumpet plays a B at the end, the root of the chord (concert A, and I popped an F#, the 5th scale degree. Trust!!

  • sorry, your correct.. ya it was kind of an asshole thing to do in that case.. lol. But I doubt he hated ya for it.

  • Why the fuck would you do that?

  • If you have heard any other recording of this the lead trumpet player usually does pop the f#. So you did the right thing and I guarantee he wasn't pissed at you. There is a recording on trumpet-stuff website with the same thing and there still might be one on screamtrumpet website.

  • too bad the note wasn't stronger...

  • I actually got to play this with byron in 1999 or 2000. when he finished the circular breathing part the end, I pulled the ultimate dumb lead trumpet player move. Byron circular breathes on a high B after playing one of the most impressive unaccompanied trumpet solos I've ever heard.

  • I saw Byron perform at the Orpheum in Vancouver and it was one of the most entertaining shows I've ever seen.

  • Dude, I was there. I love his circular breathing...
