The technology is an advantage, I'll give you that, but numbers play into account as well. I doubt the military as a whole will attack its own citizens, and you have to take into account war veterans who have come back from military service. Living in fear is no way to live. El Paso has had foreign troops for ages. Folks I was in the 1st AD 66-68 we were in Chicago, not National Guard but real Army. It was essentially martial law but no one remembers but we who were there.
Since that time all troops are trained for urban warfare.

@1978CamaroRedneck; none of us have a certain timeline. They are having infighting, other issues that have delayed this operation many times. Its frustrating for them because it has been like herding cats for them when in the past they are usually carrying out their plans. Given the major steps they have taken now, the Korean incident, Israeli incident, their planned oil spill in the gulf, passing of the bills in the US, 10 counsel of governors EO. we are very close.

All Marines know that in the non-military population, there are 1.5 million active Militia members--most who are ex-military. There are 80,000,000 armed households with an average of 27 guns per gun owner. Many, many military are sons and daughters of military members. I've never met any ex-military person that wasn't a gun owner.

The militia (singular) group that was targeted is being accused of terrorism and conspiracy to break down the "gubmint". Whether it was called for is up for debate, but I think the meditation of any act of violence would be reprimanded similarly in any setting. And I'm agnostic and a student (neither poor nor middle class, a leech) so I guess I don't have to worry.
