Loved him as a player, Never new why the cowboys got rid of him back then,,Never won again without him...untill 90s. This guy was PHENOMENAL as a MLB. If only things were different. There would be NO catch !!!!!
@mrslag1274 The hardest hit I ever saw in the NFL was Hollywood Henderson lighting up Earl Campbell on a running play. This was back in the day when helmet-to-helmet was still allowed. It made your head hurt to watch it. I can't remember the year or find a video of it but if anyone can locate it they should upload it.
Demarcus Ware is known for his blistering pace. Hollywood could run a 40 in 4.3!! in 1977!
OK I admit DWare is 50 lb's heavier but 4.3!!! thats elite WR speed now nearly 40 years later, never mind LB.
Wish he could have kept it real for longer though instead of going down the other path but I rekon looking back it what made this guy what he is today.
Hi Thomas. Massive Cowboys fan from Oklahoma. Glad to hear you got your life under control. You were a brilliant player. Once a Cowboy always a Cowboy!! It was revolutionary and still unheard of for a linebacker to take a reverse on a kickoff.
Wat up Hollywood. I hope you this. This is Percy's son. I appreciate what you did for my dad. I wish you guys would have stayed friends. If you watch his catch, you can see him run straight up to u to celebrate. He loved you. He just lost himself at some point. Thanks for the clothes and everything. I wish you would have met a better side of me. I now take xanex and im way more easy going. Best of luck...hold on, u already got dat :D
@Nadie1789 Bradshaw didn't destroy anyone asshole. He sucked ass until he got great players around him. The Steelers wanted to cut Bradshaw because of how much of a poor loser he was.
@LegendStoneCold yeah, yeah, yaddayaddayadda,Tony Homo would NEVER be as HUGE as Bradshaw even with the best team of history. Bradshaw was a good player surrounded by AMAZING players. Obviously he improved when the team did. That is a TEAM, precisely. That stupid jerk Henderson would have LOVED to have Bradshaw in his team.
@darrylhaynes Don't be stupid. He was great because he had natural athleticism and hit like a freight train. And I hope one day you get hit by a freight train too.
I think just as Robert Brazile was a kind of prototypical Lawrence Taylor type ( He's been described as "LT before there was an LT") Thomas Henderson was a precursor to the kind of athletes who now play LB in the NFL. It's unfortunate that we'll never know just how good he could have been without the problems but at the same time every era has players like this. The NFL is a young mans game and unfortunately the young are rarely wise.
I would like to see footage of Henderson's first pre-season game against the Rams. He went up against Bob Klein (tight end) and Klein had him for breakfast. Needless to say, the veterans teased him about it. He learned that you don't engage someone with his talent...you get away from him. That was August 1975.
Phenomenal talent and player, such a shame. My favorite TH story involved Hollywood asking Landry to speak at a function and he never heard a response. Hollywood shows up at the function and Landry is there. Great story. Loved looking at these old highlights.
Anybody have footage of that Washington game after which TH was fired by Landry? It featured the debut of Gary Hogeboom and Dallas was beat badly that day.
@5lowrollD 'Wood wasn't fired. After an argument with Landry, he announced that he was retiring from football. Landry was going to cut him, but he was not going to give him the satisfaction.
He should have been a Hall of Famer. All that potential, we will never know now. Can you believe a linebacker who ran faster than defensive backs? Amazing. Could have been the best ever. Wish you all the best Hollywood.
Not a cowboys fan, however you gotta love a man who went so down has become a model of consistency of sobriety, honesty and integrity. I think the best moment I've seen of Hollywood was his interview with Terry Bradshaw right before SUPER BOWL XXXIII (also played in Miami) , it was a genuine and candid interview.

If Bradshaw "destroyed" the Cowboys by 4 points in SB XIII, then Troy Aikman "obliterated" the Steelers BY 10 points in SB XXX. LOL
